In a bid to boost the cyber policing in Maharashtra, Fadnavis also met the CEO of Symantec, Greg Clark in San Francisco
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is on a three-nation tour, on Saturday set the ball rolling for two mega projects — the Mumbai-Pune Hyperloop, and setting up of advanced data centres in Mumbai.
Fadnavis visited the test-site of Virgin Hyperloop One in Nevada, in the United States and met the company’s CEO and board member, Rob Lloyd. This was the CM’s first visit to the site after signing the

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the firm on February 18 to construct the hyperloop commute system between Mumbai and Pune.
The Maharashtra government is exploring this transportation technology (hyperloop) for the Mumbai-Pune route with an aim to reduce the travel time to just 25 minutes each way. According to a statement from the CMO, so far, Virgin Hyperloop One has completed the pre-feasibility study for the Mumbai-Pune route.
“During the meeting with the CEO, Fadnavis discussed the feasibility of fast-tracking the deployment roadmap. Up to now, for the hyperloop, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority has identified 15-km demonstration track,” the statement added. Virgin HyperloopOne plans to send engineers to Pune shortly to conduct a study, it said. According to details of the project, 70% of materials and components required for the hyperloop will be sourced from Maharashtra itself.
Meanwhile, Safra Catz, CEO of technology major Oracle Corp agreed to start advanced data centres in Mumbai and requested Fadnavis to help facilitate and fast-track investment in data centres, a statement from CMO said. Catz and Fadnavis met in San Francisco on Friday.
In a bid to boost the cyber policing in Maharashtra, Fadnavis also met the CEO of Symantec, Greg Clark in San Francisco and signed a MoU for cybersecurity. This will enable the government to create a mechanism for effective cyber policing, the CMO statement added.

The Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) has identified a 15-km long demonstration track for hyperloop.
The travel time between Mumbai and Pune, which now is around four hours, will get reduced to just 25 minutes if a high-tech transportation system being explored by the Maharashtra government is implemented. The government is exploring the hyperloop technology to drastically cut the travel time between the two key cities, located around 200km away from each other.
It has approached a US-based firm, Virgin HyperloopOne, for the modern train project. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, currently in

The Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) has identified a 15-km long demonstration track for hyperloop. It is noteworthy that 70 per cent of materials and components required for hyperloop can be sourced within Maharashtra itself, the statement added. Virgin HyperloopOne founder-chairman Richard branson had announced a framework agreement for the project in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Fadnavis during his visit to Mumbai for the `Magnetic Maharashtra’ conclave held in February.
The company recently completed a pre-feasibility study for the Mumbai-Pune route. The electric efficient hyperloop system will ease expressway congestion and reduce greenhouse gas emissions up to 1,50,000 ton annually, the statement added.

The project requires 8,636 hectares of land, including 7,290 hectares of private land; after June 25, the state will invoke the MHW Act and acquire land forcibly.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ dream project — the Mumbai-Nagpur Super Communication Expressway — will soon turn into a nightmare for farmers who have refused to sell their land for the 701-km road.
The state government will invoke the Maharashtra Highways Act, to forcibly acquire the remainder land. Last week, it issued a notification for the compulsory acquisition.

move is likely to enrage farmers and opposition parties who have hit out at the state government for ‘anti-farmer’ policies.
The project requires 8,636 hectares of land, including 7,290 hectares of private land. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the nodal agency for the project, is yet to take over 1,485 hectares of private land or almost 20%.
The government has given a June 25 deadline to the owners of the remainder land. After the deadline, the government will invoke section 18 of the MHW Act, to forcibly acquire land. After June 25, land owners will get less compensations — only two to four times the ready reckoner price compared to five times in the normal circumstances.
After acquiring the 20% private land, the state hopes to start construction as soon as possible.
“Of 8,636 hectares of land required, we have already acquired 7,145.21 hectares and only 1,485 hectares are yet to be acquired. Of the land to be acquired, 1,408 hectares could not be acquired owing to technical/legal reasons related to title disputes, ownership by religious trusts, forested land, etc. Once land is acquired by the government, we will compensate,” said Radheshyam Mopalwar, vice-chairman and managing director of MSRDC.
The state government recently amended the Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013 by adding some provisions of the MHW Act in its schedule, to facilitate land acquisition for public projects.
Under the amended land acquisition Act, the government has managed to bypass the mandatory social impact assessment studies and dilute requirement of public consent. Though the land acquisition has been hassle-free in Vidarbha district, where it has crossed 85%, farmers in Nashik and Thane have been resisting the government’s move as large tracts of land here are irrigated.
Activists have warned that the compulsory acquisition would lead to outrage among farmers.
“There will be huge uproar among farmers if they try to forcibly acquire land. It has become a norm for this government to secretly issue notifications by keeping farmers in the dark. Secondly, the percentage of land acquired is misleading. We exposed the authorities with the help of RTI on their lies about percentage related to the acquisition for Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor,” said Ulka Mahajan, an activist fighting against land acquisition
