It is back to the drawing board for the railway station development project for Mangaluru as the Railway Ministry has decided to redevelop Mangaluru Central Railway Station instead of Mangaluru Junction.

2019, the Ministry had asked the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) to develop Mangaluru Junction Railway Station. Before that, the Ministry had announced that Mangaluru Central Railway Station would be developed to ‘World Class’ standards.
In a letter on September 15, the Ministry informed RLDA of the decision to entrust Mangaluru Central Station for redevelopment instead of Mangaluru Junction as communicated in August 2019.
Mangaluru Central was one of the 50 stations chosen for redevelopment by then Railway Minister Mamta Banerjee in 2009. In 2014, the Dakshina Kannada district administration recommended developing Mangaluru Junction as Central is located in a congested area. In the last 12 years however, no development took place in either of the stations.
Some of the other stations mentioned in the 2009 budget in Karnataka, including Yeshwantpur and Baiyappanahalli in Bengaluru, have been redeveloped.
Trilok Kothari, Divisional Railway Manager of Palakkad division, told The Hindu that the redevelopment would involve private participation — either public-private partnership (PPP) wherein the private partner would make the investment or partial PPP where the Railways would bear a portion of the project cost. The modalities would be decided once the RLDA comes to a conclusion about the commercial potential of the project.
Mr. Kothari said the division would have to collate all data regarding Mangaluru Central in the next four months and submit to RLDA in the prescribed format. The data includes land available in and around Central, available infrastructure, number of trains handled, and access roads.

The division would also have to make projections for the future, up to 20 years or more, indicating the expected increase in passenger footfall and train operations.

To avoid zonal issues, develop Mangalore port as a terminal and handover to SR. All Kerala trains can run from there. Handover MAQ to SWR or KR. All Karnataka trains and north and east bound trains can run from MAQ.

None of the Kerala originating trains towards Konkan are running via MAQ. After redevelopment, atleast 8 trains should run via MAQ.
VSKP feel neglected, but more than 2 dozen trains are running via VSKP with loco reversal. So, why not run trains via MAQ?

Reduction in number of zones in Karnataka needed. Only Then, trains can run from coastal area to interior and north Karnataka.
Even UP has 4 zones. But Karnataka has 5 zones and going to get another (SCOR) !!!

ಮಂಗಳೂರು, ಸೆ.20: ನಗರದ ಪಡೀಲ್ ಬಳಿಯ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಜಂಕ್ಷನ್ ರೈಲು ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ ಮತ್ತು ನಗರದ ಬಂದರ್ ಮೀನುಗಾರಿಕೆ ದಕ್ಕೆಗೆ ಬಸ್ ಸಂಚಾರ ಆರಂಭಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರ ಆಗ್ರಹಕ್ಕೆ ಹಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳು ಸಂದಿವೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು, ಜನಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಗಳು ಈ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಈಡೇರಿಸುವ ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆಯೇ ವಿನಃ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಸ್ಪಂದಿಸಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬ ಅಸಮಾಧಾನ ವ್ಯಕ್ತವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಜಂಕ್ಷನ್ (ಪಡೀಲ್) ರೈಲು ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದಿಂದ ಸ್ಟೇಟ್‌ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್-ಹ್ಯಾಮಿಲ್ಟನ್ ಸರ್ಕಲ್‌ಗೆ ಸುಮಾರು 5 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರವಿದೆ. ಸದ್ಯ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಜಂಕ್ಷನ್ ರೈಲು ನಿಲ್ದಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಹಗಲಿನ ವೇಳೆ ವಿವಿಧ ಕಡೆಗಳಿಂದ ಹಲವು ರೈಲುಗಳು ಬರುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರು ರಾ.ಹೆ. ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಲು ಬಾಡಿಗೆಗೆ ಕಾರು ಅಥವಾ ಆಟೊ ರಿಕ್ಷಾಗಳನ್ನೇ ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಬೇಕಿದೆ. ಅಥವಾ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿ ತಲುಪಲು 1 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ನಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದು ಬಸ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಲಗೇಜುಗಳಿದ್ದು, ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತುಕೊಂಡು ನಡೆಯುವುದು ಅಸಾಧ್ಯ.
ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಜಂಕ್ಷನ್‌ನಿಂದ ಬಿಜೈ ಕೆಎಸ್ಸಾರ್ಟಿಸಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹ್ಯಾಮಿಲ್ಟನ್ ಸರ್ಕಲ್‌ಗೆ ಸರಕಾರಿ ಬಸ್ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಬೇಕು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರಿಗೆ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಅನುಕೂಲವಾಗಲಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
► ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಜಂಕ್ಷನ್‌ಗೆ ಕೊಂಕಣ ಮಾರ್ಗ, ಹಾಸನ, ಕೇರಳ ಭಾಗದಿಂದ ಪ್ರಸಕ್ತ ವೇಳಾಪಟ್ಟಿಯಂತೆ ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ 5:45ಕ್ಕೆ ನೇತ್ರಾವತಿ ಎಕ್ಸ್‌ಪ್ರೆಸ್, 6:45ಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು-ಮಂಗಳೂರು ರಾತ್ರಿ ರೈಲು, ಸಂಜೆ 4:30ಕ್ಕೆ ಯಶವಂತಪುರ-ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಜಂಕ್ಷನ್, ಸಂಜೆ 6 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಹೊಸದಿಲ್ಲಿ-ತಿರುವನಂತಪುರ ಎಕ್ಸ್ ಪ್ರೆಸ್, 7 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಮಂಗಳಾ ಎಕ್ಸ್‌ಪ್ರೆಸ್ ರೈಲುಗಳು ಆಗಮಿಸುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ರೈಲಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರ ಮತ್ತು ಸುತ್ತಲಿನ ಪ್ರದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.
► ಸುಬ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ ರೈಲು ನಿಲ್ದಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಇರುವಂತೆ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಜಂಕ್ಷನ್‌ನಿಂದ ನಗರಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಕಾರಿ ಅಥವಾ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಬಸ್ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಬೇಡಿಕೆ ಹಲವು ವರ್ಷದಿಂದ ಇದೆ. ಕೆಲವು ಆಟೊ ಚಾಲಕರು ದುಬಾರಿ ಬಾಡಿಗೆ ವಸೂಲಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಇನ್ನು ಕೆಲವು ಆಟೊ ಚಾಲಕರು ಜಂಕ್ಷನ್ ರೈಲು ನಿಲ್ದಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾಡಿಗೆಗೆ ತೆರಳಲು ಒಪ್ಪುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬ ಆರೋಪವೂ ಇದೆ.
ಬಂದರ್ ದಕ್ಕೆಗೂ ಬಸ್ ಸಂಚಾರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಇಲ್ಲ: ಸ್ಟೇಟ್ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್-ಹ್ಯಾಮಿಲ್ಟನ್ ಸರ್ಕಲ್‌ನಿಂದ ಬಂದರ್ ದಕ್ಕೆಗೂ ಬಸ್ ಸಂಚಾರ ಆರಂಭಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗೆ ಕೂಡ ಈವರೆಗೆ ಸ್ಪಂದನ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಲ್ಲ. ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ಹೊರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ, ರಾಜ್ಯದಿಂದ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಮಂದಿ ಮೀನುಗಾರರು, ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿಗಳು, ಕಾರ್ಮಿಕರು, ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ಮುಂಜಾನೆ 5 ಗಂಟೆಯಿಂದ ಸಂಜೆ 6ರವರೆಗೆ ಬಂದರ್ ದಕ್ಕೆಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮೀನುಗಾರ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯೂ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟಿದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಬಾಡಿಗೆ ರಿಕ್ಷಾವನ್ನೇ ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಒಂದು ರಿಕ್ಷಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಿತಿಗಿಂತ ಅಧಿಕ ಮಂದಿಯನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವುದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ 5ರಿಂದ 9 ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಜೆ 4ರಿಂದ 6ರವರೆಗೆ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಅಥವಾ ಸರಕಾರಿ ಬಸ್‌ಗಳ ಓಡಾಟಕ್ಕೆ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಯಿತ್ತು.
►ಸುಮಾರು 40 ವರ್ಷದ ಹಿಂದೆ ರೂಟ್ ನಂಬ್ರ 18ರ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಬಸ್ಸೊಂದು ಸ್ಟೇಟ್‌ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್, ಬಂದರ್ ದಕ್ಕೆ, ಗೂಡ್ಸ್ ಶೆಡ್, ಹೊಯಿಗೆ ಬಝಾರ್, ಮಾರಿಗುಡಿ, ಲಿವಲ್ ಪ್ರದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಚಲಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಮೀನುಗಾರರಿಗೆ ಅನುಕೂಲವಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಆ ಬಸ್ ಸಂಚಾರ ಸ್ಥಗಿತಗೊಂಡ ಬಳಿಕ ದಕ್ಕೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಲು ಬಾಡಿಗೆ ರಿಕ್ಷಾವನ್ನೇ ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸುವುದು ಅನಿವಾರ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಸ್ಟೇಟ್‌ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್-ಹ್ಯಾಮಿಲ್ಟನ್ ಸರ್ಕಲ್‌ಗೆ ಬಂದರ್ ದಕ್ಕೆಗೆ ಬಸ್ ಸಂಚಾರ ಆರಂಭಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಪೊನ್ನುರಾಜ್ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ನಡೆದ ಆರ್‌ಟಿಎ ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಬೇಡಿಕೆ ಮುಂದಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೆ. ಅವರು ಸ್ಪಂದಿಸುವುದಾಗಿ ಭರವಸೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಅದು ಇನ್ನೂ ಕಾರ್ಯಗತಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲ.
ಹನುಮಂತ ಕಾಮತ್, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತ, ಮಂಗಳೂರು
ದಕ್ಕೆಯಿಂದ ಸ್ಟೇಟ್‌ಬ್ಯಾಂಕ್-ಹ್ಯಾಮಿಲ್ಟನ್ ಸರ್ಕಲ್‌ಗೆ ಸುಮಾರು ಎರಡೂವರೆ ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರವಿದೆ. ಮೀನುಗಾರ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಸಹಿತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನವರು ಬಾಡಿಗೆ ರಿಕ್ಷಾವನ್ನು ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಪೀಕ್‌ಅವರ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಅಥವಾ ಸರಕಾರಿ ಬಸ್ ಸಂಚಾರ ಆರಂಭಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಮೀನುಗಾರರ ಸಹಿತ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರು ಅನೇಕ ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಕಾರ ಸ್ಪಂದಿಸಲಿ.

Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmer Development Shobha Karandlaje, who represents the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency, requested Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to merge Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. (KRCL) with Indian Railways.
"MPs from Karnataka held a meeting with Union Minister For Railways Sri AshwiniVaishnaw Ji. Highlighted the various railway related demands and issues of Udupi-Chikmagalur. The Hon'ble Railway Minister assured of positive action about all the proposals," Shobha Karanlaje tweeted.
KRCL is a joint venture of Indian Railways with Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala.

Karandlaje said that Konkan Railway has failed to fulfil the aspirations of coastal Karnataka, and merging it with Indian Railways is a long-pending demand from people.
Karandlaje said KRCL could be brought under South Western Railway (Karnataka-Goa) and Central Railway (Maharashtra).
Railway users from coastal Karnataka allege that KRCL is cancelling the existing services instead of introducing new trains.
They claim that KRCL cancelled the popular Yeshwantpur-Karwar-Yeshwantpur tri-weekly day train between Karwar and Mangaluru Junction to earn a profit by running goods trains, reports The Hindu.
KRCL, with its headquarters at CBD Belapur in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, operates Konkan Railway.
The Konkan is a coastal strip of land bounded by the Sahyadri hills on the east and the Arabian Sea on the west.
The Konkan Railway was the missing link between India's commercial capital, Mumbai, and Mangalore. The 741-kilometre line connects Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka States, a region crisscrossing rivers, plunging valleys and mountains.

The jurisdiction of KR is the reason for the failure of KR in MH, GOA and KA. With no major junctions in its contol, with no pitlines, with dominating neighbouring zones, how can KR survive?
Mangalore in SR, VSG in SWR, no big town in MH under KR.
Only state which got maximum benefit is Kerala. Entire Kerala has atleast two daily trains via Konkan, apart from numerous biweekly, weekly trains.

lost its originating train Mangala to Delhi. Now depends on Mangala Lakshadweep express from ERS with odd timings and odd quota at MAJN / other KR towns of Karnataka.
No train to anywhere in Karnataka, other than just a daily train from Konkan side to Bangalore. No train to Mysore, Mandya, Ballari, Chitradurga, Davangere, Hubli Dharwad, Belgaum, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Bidar.
No trains to neighbouring states TN, TS, AP, MH, Goa also. Biweekly MAQ TO KCG also plies via SRR, not via UD, KAWR, MAO, UBL.
Let us not count innumerable number of trains running from Kerala to Gujarat, Rajasthan and Delhi, as they have almost zero seats for KR controlled stations of Karnataka.
Why did Karnataka participated in KR Project? To get better connectivity from coastal areas to other cities in Karnataka/ other neighbouring states. But this is not fulfilled.
BENGALURU: The newly introduced Vistadome coaches between Yeshwantpur and Mangaluru are seeing massive demand. The high fare, around Rs 1,500, too is no deterrent for travellers seeking to soak in the panoramic view of the Western Ghats in these coaches. South Western Railway (SWR) records show occupancy rate in Vistadome coaches has crossed 100% on most days. On Saturday (July 24), Vistadome coaches from both sides recorded the highest booking: 119% from Yeshwantpur and 120% from Mangaluru. Ingenious rail passengers have found their own way to get around the high fare and have the best of the Vistadome too. “As the fare for a Vistadome coach is high, many people book tickets for non-AC coaches from Yeshwantpur to Hassan and then book another ticket to hop on to a Vistadome coach from Hassan and traverse the ghat section to save money,” said rail enthusiast Abhishek R. on July 11 and bookings are now full. These coaches have been provided in train nos. 06211/06212, 06575/06576 and 06539/06540 operating between Yeshwantpur and Mangaluru. Each train has two Vistadome coaches and each coach can accommodate 44 people. On Saturday, there were 105 passengers in Vistadome coaches that left Yeshwantpur and 106 in Mangaluru. Between July 12 and July 31 (20 days), more than 100% bookings have been recorded from Yeshwantpur on 12 days. The lowest booking (56.8%) was seen on Day 1 of the service from Yeshwantpur on July 12. However, since July 15, bookings have constantly hovered above 94%. On Mangaluru -Yeshwantpur route, 89.7% occupancy was seen on the inaugural run (July 11). The lowest booking was on July 12 (22%). However, bookings have crossed 100% for five days between July 11 and 31. SWR officials said travelling in Vistadome coaches during monsoon is a new experience for passengers, particularly between Subrahmanya Road and Sakleshpur, which has several bridges, waterfalls and tunnels. Aneesh Hegde, chief public relation officer of SWR, said: “We have received an overwhelming response from passengers, especially on weekend.” According to Abhishek, most passengers in the Vistadome coaches are from Bengaluru, who take the day train and then return by bus the same night. “However, passengers travelling in a Vistadome coach from Mangaluru cannot get the panoramic view of the ghat section as the engine in front of the coach blocks the view,” he explained. “We are in talks with Southern Railway to look into the possibility of attaching these coaches on the rear side from Mangaluru Junction too, but there are some practical constraints,” said Hegde.
