Circle's Safety Commissioner will be conducted before January 15th. This project, started in 2005-06, connects Kashmir to the rest of India year-round for the first time since independence. The line includes 38 tunnels (one being 12.75 km long, the longest in India's rail network) and 927 bridges. Previous sections opened in 2009, 2013, and 2014. at 2:30 p.m., with the first train leaving at 2:45 p.m., followed by the Budgam-Baramulla section reopening at 4 p.m. (first train at 4:30 p.m.). The Anantnag-Qazigund and Qazigund-Banihal sections remained closed due to snow, but were cleared by 6 p.m. and expected to reopen December 29, 2024, weather permitting. Approximately 80-85% of the 130km stretch was cleared. A WDM locomotive with a snow cutter was deployed. A Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inspection of the 17km Katra-Reasi section is scheduled for January 2025, with a report on the Reasi-Sangaldan section already submitted. The Reasi-Sangaldan section's completion will connect Jammu and Kashmir by rail.
