MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said survey for laying a new Shivamogga-Sringeri-Venoor-Dharmasthala railway line is in progress.
He said that a survey for railway line between Kanhangad and Kaniyooru is also being taken up. “The electrification of the railway line from Kannur to Mangaluru is complete. of the four-laning the B C Road – Nanthoor stretch of NH 75 under the Port Connectivity Project. Concrete box pushing technology was adopted for the construction of the RuB,” he said.
Moolarapattana bridge
MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty said the government is likely to approve of a new bridge at Moolarapattana, across River Phalguni, using new technology of steel girder, at an estimated cost of Rs 14 crore.
The residents have been demanding a new bridge at Moolarapattana after the collapse of the old bridge on June 25, 2018. With the steel girder, the estimated cost of the project is likely to reduce.
The collapsed bridge on the district main road was providing connectivity from Edapadavu in Mangaluru taluk and passes via Kuppepadavu and Arala-Muthooru-Bantwal.

Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) (Southern Circle) K.A. Manoharan on Tuesday conducted the mandatory safety and speed trial of the new line between Padil and Jokatte constructed as a part of doubling the Mangaluru Junction-Panambur line under Southern Railway.
Mr. Manoharan, accompanied by his staff as well as officials from the construction wing of SR and SR’s Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager Pratap Singh Shami, initially inspected the new line (about 11.5 km) and later conducted the speed trial. The inspection special train was operated at speeds up to 110 km per hour during the trial, sources said.

Shami said the inspection went on smoothly and the CRS may issue authorisation to operate trains on the new lines after being satisfied about the quality. Palakkad Division is optimistic about operating trains on the section by this month-end, Mr. Shami said.
The doubled line would help in reducing congestion at Mangalru Junction and bring down operations time by about 15 minutes. The tunnelling work between Padil and Kulashekara for the new line, however, would take some more time to get completed.
