With the completion of non-interlocking works which lasted for the past two weeks, the 9.5-km Arakkonam - Thakkolam detour new line in Arakkonam - Kancheepuram section was thrown open for traffic on Friday. The proposed new trains in the 213 km-circular route which include the Thakkolam detour new, are expected to get introduced in another two weeks, according to railway sources.
The Tirupati - Puducherry - Tirupati passenger has been diverted to the new line and the level crossing gates in the existing 7.5-km tracks which pass through, from near INS Rajali Naval Air Base in Arakkonam - Kancheepuram road, thrown open permanently.
Requested to operate two new Renigunda -Arakkonam -Kanchipuram- Chengalpattu services during morning and evening.
GENERAL MANAGER REVIEWS PROGRESS OF WORKS IN TAKKOLAM – ARAKKONAM SECTION
Shri R.K. Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway inspected Takkolam – Arakkonam section of Chennai Division today, the 28th of August, 2018. General Manager reviewed the progress of electrification works in the section. Shri. Naveen Gulati, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai Division, Shri.L.SudhakarRao, Chief Administrative Officer /Construction/Chennai Egmore and other Officers and staff were present. The 9.5 km stretch between Arakkonam- Takkolam which is the last leg of electrification project between Kanchipuram and Arakkonam.
Mostly they don't close present line. But can't say exactly now. Will have to wait and see.
Lets see.. Trains like Balaji has to have a reversal if the existing line closes.
In future if trains like Balaji express run on new diverted line, then loco reversal will not be required, if the train skips AJJ, loco reversal would be required if there is a halt at AJJ.
They can develop Arakkonam North as a substitute stn. for AJJ pax
It will not be closed, but it will mostly be used only for departmental works. After the new line is opened, all trains towards CGL are expected to bypass AJJ through the Melpakkam bypass.
