A youth sustained grievous injuries after he fell off a train near the Shiriya railway bridge, near Uppala, early on Thursday.
The youth, Kirthan Shetty, 19, son of Raghuram, a resident of Padumane Gangolli in Karnataka’s Udupi town, fell off the Chennai-Mangaluru Superfast Express train around 8 a.m., P.V. Ashokan, Kumbla police sub-inspector said.
The youth who sustained serious head injuries was rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru. Doctors at the hospital said his condition remained critical.
Manjeshwar: Manjeshwar unit of SSF on Friday, November 8, urged the Railway Department to withdraw the proposed plan for closure of Uppala Railway Station. The Railway Department had planned to close the railway station as it is not generating enough revenue.“Closure of this station might pose problems to the locals. Further the station has not been renovated ever since its was set up century ago. The Station might yield more profit if additional trains to various other locations will be introduced. The station plays is a connecting link between places in Uppala and Mangalore. Further most of the people commute in the trains for various purpose such as education, business and health,” opined the SSF members.Abdul Jabbar, division president, presided over the programme. Yusuf Saqafi Kaiyala, Aziz Saqafi and Noufal Sonkalu were present among others.
