1.]ANDAL KOVIL - Srivilliputhur Andal Kovil is a popular – old Hindu temple and one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Sri Vishnu. To the devotees and vaishnavites, Srivilliputtur is synonymous with Lord Vishnu, Periyalwar and Andal. It is an interesting place to any aesthetic person for enjoying the sculpture and ancient drawings in the temple. It gave –‘Thiruppavai’ of Andal and ‘Tirupallandu’ of Periyalvar- the hymns on Lord Vishnu to Tamil Literature. These Tamil hymns – Tamil Vedam-Alwar pasurams- are recited everyday at this temple.

state participate in the “Aadi Pooram” festival celebrated in the Andal Temple. After early morning special pujas, the presiding deities, Sri Rengamannar and Goddess Andal are taken in decorated palanquins to the car. The festival marks the adoption of presiding deity, Andal, by Periyazhwar after he found her near a Tulsi plant in the garden of Vadabadrasai Temple at Srivilliputhur on the eighth day of the Tamil month of Adi.

2.]SATHURAGIRI HILLS - Sathuragiri Hills or Chathuragiri otherwise known as Sundara Maha Lingam is situated 10 kms from Watrap (Vathirairuppu) near Srivilliputhur. The name Sathuragiri came from Chathur (4) Veda (Vedas) Giri (Hill), where all the four Vedas met and formed the hill. Another meaning is that the whole mountain is in square (Chathuram) in shape so the name Chathuragiri. Sathuragiri is the Abode of God. It is otherwise also called as Mahalingam Hill. This is also called as “Siddhargal boomi”. 18 Siddhas were said to live here. This is a mysterious hill where it is believed that Siddhars still worship the lord Shiva.

Public are allowed only Six days in a month, 3 days each during New Moon & Full Moon days (i.e. Day before & Day after, with Full moon or New moon days). Devotees should not pollute the water source. It is better to avoid plastic covers and water bottles in Sathuragiri Forest. For the first time, it takes nearly 4 to 5 hours to climb to the Top of the hill. Rest, can reach the top within 2 to 3 hours. On the hill there is no electricity, W L L telephone connection available (BSNL), getting BSNL cell phones only. We can find few numbers of shops selling buttermilk, coffee, snacks, etc. During some days like full moon day, new moon day and other festive seasons Annadhanam is served to the devotees from morning till evening near both the temples and stay in the shelter provided there before dark falls. Basic amenities are provided at the hill.

This Town is famous for the Andaal Temple, a great devotee of Lord Vishnu, who dreams of marrying Lord Vishnu and marries Him . This place is supposed to be around the garden where Andaal as a baby was discovered by her father, another great devotee of Lord Vishnu. The temple also stands an important role with its Gopuram (Tower) being the emblem of the Tamilnadu State Govt.
This Town is located 115 kms to North West of Tirunelveli and about 75 kms South West of Madurai, Rajapalayam about 10 kms and Tenkasi about 85 kms all well connected by State Transport buses operated by Tamilnadu Government. 12661/62 Pothigai Express provides daily connection to Chennai from here

And the TN government has chosen the gopura(tower) of this temple as its logo/symbol. The reason why SVPR temple tower was a choice from thousands of temple towers in the state is quite interesting. This tower doesn't have any sculptures depicting Hindu Gods which in turn stood as a secular symbol :)

Nothing secular about it. Vaishnava temples(In TN Iyengar) temples usually don't have sculptures in the gopuram. Anyways minorities in TN are under 5%. Vaishnava temple architecture is minimalist compared to the Shivite ones in Tamil Nadu.

I did not mean the secularism principles adopted by the constructors of the temple, but the logo selection committee was keen to choose such a symbol that can patronize the culture of TN and they ended up with 'Gopuram'. And in selecting gopurams they would have preferred SVPR whose temple tower is not having any scultptures, so that even Non-Hindus will not be hesitant to use the logo or keep the govt. documents bearing the logo.

However there is an other view that this temple tower is the west gopuram of Madurai Meenakshiamman temple. The artist who designed this monogram was Prof. R. Krishna Rao, who hails from Madurai. In 1948, he was appointed Head of the Department of Applied Arts in the Government School of Arts and Crafts in Madras, subsequently promoted as Vice-Principal and transferred to the Government School of Arts and Crafts in Kumbakonam. In 1968, he was appointed the Principal of the Government School of Arts and Crafts in Madras when the renowned artist K.C.S. Paniker retired from that post. In 1972, Krishna Rao joined Kalakshetra, Madras, as Director, Department of Art.It was Prof. R.Krishna Rao who conceived and designed the temple tower emblem of Madras State in 1949. The tower was built by Parakrama Pandiyan in 14CE AD. One can view very few sculptures on this tower.

Sri Renganatha Swami temple. The 60 metre high gopuram, one of the tallest in South India and the Ratha (Car) of this temple is one of the biggest and has
beautiful carvings from the scriptures. Andal, the devotee of Lord Vishnu who
