If your travelling in the state of Goa there is no app based taxis like Ola and Uber. However the Govt. of Goa has developed an app Called GoaMiles. So please use that and don't be a victim of overcharging cab drivers who will be waiting to loot unaware tourists.Image source-google.Download link for android - click here
Thanks for information, When GOa Govt. develop an app, why not make a arrangement of prepaid taxi service out side rly stn., like Mapusa, Karmali, Madgaon etc .....
nope the local taxi unions doesn't allow them to operate and govt. doesn't do anything because the taxi drivers and their families are vote banks for political parties and they don't want to lose that
Surprised to hear all these
You can take a prepaid auto to old goa church Rs. 100/-. or to
Panjim bustand Rs. 300/-.
Buses to panjim from old Goa church every 5 minutes.
Panjim. you can hire self drive cars or 2 wheelers on daily basis, lots of choice.
Last time when I went there,; deboarded at karmali, when to fly over and then took bus to panjim bus stand in 20/- and then from panjim took a ktc bus to margao for 25/-.
But yes for family travel , more arrangements are required like good priced app based taxi service
that's ok if travelling alone but for family this is a better option and no one wants to drive after a long journey in the train
As per the review of that app. it deducts 200 rs when you want to book the taxi. It goes for search after money is deducted. And most of the time you will get message that no taxis around your area. Then if you want to refund the money it goes to application wallet or paytm. So if you planning for it to be for Airport or Railway station, be careful.
Catching a bus on the flyover bridge is not safe ladies & families as you have to walk on the tracks. Back packers prefer this route.
Yes, already wrote there that good for solo light luggage travelers only.
For family travel, taxi/cab required
Nearest station to visit panjim , the political and administrative head quarters of Goa.
All government offices and most of the major acadmies are in panjim only.
Also a preferred station to visit mangeshi temple, bom jesus basillica, bambolim, candolim, miramar, dona paula ,calangute and baga beach
distance upto panjim along the mandovi river coast is 13 km
I think there is a pre-paid taxi rates board outside the station. It should also be mentioned that very few trains stop at Karmali and the lack of facilities has something to do with it
yes, there is a rate board. but if you visit in peak season ( nov - jan) they do not follow it. But I got at perfect rate when I visited last week. And yes, there are many stations with few train stoppages but have more facilities than here. I feel even thivim has more facilities at the station.
Thivim is commercially a more important station than Karmali. Tourist flow is more from Mumbai side than Mangalore side. Thivim is used as access for most of North Goa beaches. Hence may have better facilities than karmali. While you are right Karmali is near the state capital, it is also true that Madgaon has double the population than the state capital
yes, you are right north goa beaches of anjuna, vagator, morjim, chapora are close by and tourist in flow is great. But if you see overall connectivity point of view panajim and karmali should not be ignored by railways. and in politics and thus in railways
generally power centre are given more weightage over population density
I have been staying in Goa for the last 11 years. Goa is a small state so the situation is very much different than in most other states. I dont want to go into your postings with a microscope, but I do need to correct a few facts. In most states the location of the state assembly/secretariat is considered as 'power centre'. In Goa this is located in Porvorim which is 19 KM from Thivim RS and is 14 km from karmali RS. Calangute is located 17 km from Thivim and 24 km from karmali. Mangeshi is 14km from Karmali and 18km from Madgaon. Maybe you should relook at the places you have mentioned against Karmali as 'preferred station''
Ok.By the way, what is your favourite escape away beach? found galgibaga was quiet and unique
Having stayed for so long in Goa, beaches are not so exciting as before. I like Pollem the best. It is further south than Galjibagh
