**Promotion or Demotion?**
As part of a new initiative IR is converting all the passenger trains into EMU/ MENU/ DEMU rakes. Though this is not a new initiative, IR used to already convert short-journey passengers, but they were mainly confined into short-journey trains. But recently long-journey passengers are being converted too. Ex: 63141/63142, 63553/63554, Couple of SDAH-LGL Passengers etc.
Do you support this initiative of replacing conventional Passenger rakes with EMU/MENU/DEMU rakes as taken by IR?
1) Yes. it speeds up TT8%1
2) Yes. it reduces the operational cost0%0
3) Both options 1&277%10
4) Yes. but only if the journey time is not more than 3 hrs15%2
5) Never. Multiple Unit rakes are way less comfortable than conventional rakes and they don't have Toilets0%0

DEMU/MEMU rakes with 3 phase propulsion is need of the hour for IR which is striving hard to speed up all the kinds of trains on IR network.
(1) Higher average speed due to faster acceleration & deceleration. So clears the section faster and help increase the speeds of faster trains. Since the instances of overtaking shall be reduced, the sectional capacity shall increase.
(2) Using a 3000-5000hp loco is wastage of locopower for P-trains which usually run with less number of coaches.

Provision of toilets (2 toilets per coach) should be made in MEMU/DEMU trains and all passenger trains should gradually be converted to MEMU/DEMU trainsets.

Not much of difference here between passenger and multiple units. Passenger trains serve more to provide connectivity of small stations to other small/big stations. The number of end to end passenger in such long journey passenger trains are very few because Railways do have dedicated reserved trains for the same, as well. With electrification going in in so many areas, along with capacity augmentation of many trains which now run with more than 20 coaches, and need for freight traffic, the locomotives can be used to serve those purposes. There are added advantages of faster acceleration, easy braking within short distance etc.

Agreed, but what my concern is,
1) Are MEMU/DEMU/EMU rakes at this point fit for longer journey? They don't have toilets and that is a big issue (to counter this problem IR giving some ridiculasly longer halts at one point enroute like 30mnts halt at KNJ for SDAH-LGL EMU's which is also not a proper solution IMO); also these rakes are not comfortable as the conventional rakes because of Lightweight, jurkey coaches, wooden/fibre seats, lack if vestibules in EMU rakes etc.

of time it is not improving TT's; for ex.63141/63143 is not at all faster even by a single minute from its earlier avatar 53135/53136. Though I must admit that now a days its delaying has significally reduced, not sure whether that is caused by changing the rake.

* IR have strong tendency to maintain the status quo and resist any drastic changes.
* It has been noticed when Poorva etc were granted 130kmph speed, there is hardly any change in scheduled journey time. Higher speed has probably been gobbled up by the dragon called slack time.
* EMU rakes have to be facilitated with toilets sooner of later, but IR is not realising this fact.

I am seeing many new memu rake with toilets but not emu(city locals).so memu rakes with toilets can be allowed for journeys upto 10-12 hour only since some passenger sleep on seats.but emu(city locals) must not be allowed for journey above 3 hours.compared to passenger memu trains are more comfortable specially when train is packed
