Railway has decided to convert Train No. 16201/16202, KSR Bengaluru - Shivamogga - KSR Bengaluru Daily Express into Daily Superfast Express with change in Train No. as 20651/20652. There is no change in the composition and frequency. The converted service
commences with effect from 01st October, 2017 from KSR Bengaluru end and from 02nd October, 2017 from Shivamogga end.
Accordingly Train No. 20651, KSR Bengaluru - Shivamogga Daily Superfast Express departs KSR Bengaluru at 15:00 hrs. and reaches Shivamogaa Town at 19:55 hrs. Enroute, the train arrives/departs Yesvantpur at 15:10/15:12 hrs., Tumakuru at 16:08/16:10 hrs., Tiptur at 17:05/17:06 hrs. (Temporary Stoppage), Arsikere at 17:40/17:45 hrs., Kadur at 18:18/18:19 hrs. (Temporary Stoppage), Birur at 18:25/18:27 hrs., Tarikere at 18:53/18:54 hrs., Bhadravathi at 19:15/19:17 hrs., Shivamogga Halt at 19:30/19:31 hrs.
In the return direction, Train No. 20652, Shivamogga - KSR Bengaluru Daily Superfast Express departs Shivamogga Town at 06:40 hrs. and reaches KSR Bengaluru at 11:35 hrs. Enroute, arrives/departs Shivamogga Halt at 06:45/06:46 hrs., Bhadravathi at 06:57/06:59 hrs., Tarikere at 07:15/07:16 hrs., arrives/departs Birur at 07:40/07:42 hrs., Kadur at 07:49/07:50 hrs. Yes. MYS was also under SR.
This is a MYS division train actually. And yes, MYS was under SR earlier, so the sharing.

Yes. I had forgotten that its going to become SF. So this is similar to 208XX series of SER.

An alternative is to make the passenger wait till the arrival of this Super Fast as this will give a direct connection from Bangalore to Talaguppa and will help many passengers travelling beyond Shimoga towards Talaguppa. At present, passengers from Bangalore going beyond Shimoga get down at shimoga take a auto to bus stand and continue their journey by bus which is both tedious and expensive.
A better idea will be to run this through HAS and let people have proper sleep.

Hi, I'm Mohammed Salman.. I'm daily travelling from tumkur to bangalore in 16202/Shivamogga InterCity since 4 months ... on 09/04...was the time in history.. The train was on time to sbc/bangalore @11.57am...all my colleagues are shocked that I came office in time.... I was proud of irctc for one day of my whole 4 month travel... Irctc is the best railway system to follow punctuality...

It was a calm Saturday morning when my blissful sleep came to a sudden end at 10:40AM, there was a weird loud noise accompanied by vigorous vibration of various
parts of my bed. I woke up startled, my semi conscious mind unable to figure out the source, turns out it was our admin hero of the lands beyond lottegollahalli, Tejas, calling me to ensure I wake up in time to book tickets in Tatkal. It was ancient history to me that I had promised him the day earlier, that i would indeed wake up on time and book them in time. These were for our next day return trip from Bhadravati in 16580 SMET-YPR Tri-Weekly Express. It also hit me that we were to depart in a few hours onboard 16201 SBC-SMET Express to Chikmaglur and i was barely in the position to open my eyes fully.
Tejas however didn't know that I just woke up to his phone call, so he was duly informed that i was up since morning and the tickets would be taken care of, feigning complete nonchalance. After all, I didn't want my reputation of being punctual, stickler to trips committed and completely dependable be dented. After a series of phone calls and trying to book tickets in parallel, we finally got confirmed reserved tickets for the next day(I have never really imagined the tri-weekly would go into such long WL forcing us to book CK, but then weekend it was).The two other members joining us were also the lone voyagers of lottegollahalli, my very old unpredictable regular travel partner Shashank Bhat and subbu, a dear friend to all of us.
There are quite a lot of destinations mentioned like Chikmaglur, Shimoga and Bhadrvathi in what i wrote above so in case you are wondering where this trip was to, then i'd ike to say to explore the Chikmaglur-Kadur line. But like things have always been when a combination of any four of us or all go on a trip, it was an absolute maze of the weirdest of situations which made the next 36 hours turn out different in entirety. Delayed trains, broken brains, lazy legs, sheer madness and of course quite a lot of green chickpea along with their plants.
Do keep watching this space for a detailed trip report and be a part of the railfanning escapades and them class while i would try to recollect details and put them into words :)

The train was unusually full, well i can't really say unusually or not, but in a 2S coach, there were atleast 30 people standing apart from the reserved ones all the way till Arsikere. Once we departed Tumkur, movement was very slow with stops every 15-20 minutes to give way to trains ranging from Superfasts to Passengers. We had originally intended to alight at Kadur, the scheduled arrival being 18:54 and take the connecting train(Shimoga Town-Chikmaglur Passenger) to Chikmaglur at 2010. Assuming a delay of even 40 minutes, this seemed like
a totally viable plan.
We were looped at Karadi and made to wait quite a long time to let what appeared like Tatanagar-YPR express to pass. With hope still alive and spirits all high, we got back into the train hoping we would still be able to make it. SMET-YPR express was waiting for our train at Tiptur and we were making great progress after that, Arsikere was only 25kms from here, On time Performance is assured is what we thought not being able to predict the events of the next one hour.
After departure from Tiptur, we were making good time till we were looped into platform 3 of Honnavalli Road. With a lazy stretch, all of us got out of the train to either click some pictures, find some local vendors and get some food and the likes. A crossing was inevitable, and no sooner than the opposite mainline aspect turned green, the dutiful railfans headed to that end of the platform to have do some investigations on the train approaching. Minutes later, Chalukya Express Zoomed past at a rather sedate pace owing to some TSR ahead. Anyway, we were set to leave now that the crossing was over, right? Wrong!
It was dark already and the vehicle lights from the mainroad after the station were clearly visible, the level crossing gate had been opened. This meant we are not going anywhere and are to give way to another train at the same station, double crossing for an already delayed intercity express, we were certainly not pleased. Soon enough, the aspect of the mainline MACL turned green again for what we thought would be Janshatabdi, cursing the train. In few minutes, which appeared like hours, Karwar-YPR triweekly express made an appearance and went past us in a slow pace, almost mocking the intercity express.
Our train, SMET intercity was already quite badly trolled with two crossings at the same station. But finally the wait was over and we were good to go, oh how wrong we were!!
The LC gate opened again and we threw our arms in the air in despair, i was wondering how the reaction would be from a certain railfan from the same base very renowned for his exaggerated reactions to anything imaginable. Its been about 30 minutes since we have been looped at honavalli road when the MACL on the mainline turned green yet again, this time bringing in UBL-SBC Jan shatabdi, the delay now more than 90 minutes. We were supposed to take the passenger from Kadur to chiikmaglur at 2010, but having spent the last 45 odd minutes at the same location, it was 2000 already crushing all hopes.
What followed was a non stop run to Arsikere and the fastest run in the whole trip between Arsikere and Kadur, it was about 2100, YPR-CMGR passenger was trailing us somewhere not much behind. However, reaching Chikmaglur station around 2300, a station located outside the city and looking for accomodation options didnt seem that appealing. Altough we did at a point considering spending the night at the station.
So Kadur it was, for the night, to head to Chikmaglur early next morning..Exploring that route in the morning was something which kept us all going(Apart from one or two other edible things) although we were all clearly tired.

Part IV.
Taking from where the author of the previous posts has left, the gang of 4 stayed put at a hotel few hundred meters from the Railway station. A detailed tip would be placed under the station tip but its worth mentioning here that about 6 budget to luxury hotels/ lodges, few eateries and the town bus stand are all located within a 100 meters of each other. And so we hardly faced a problem that night, or the next morning. The next morning we were to take a 6 am bus and make a dash to Chikmagalur, about 45 kms away so as to comfortably take the CMGR-YPR pass back to the plains. A 'spirited' previous night notwithstanding,
we took a Karnataka Sarige bus at 6.15 am. 75 mins later, we were at the brand new CMGR station located slightly on the outskirts of the city. Very clean like most SWR stations, the station is powered by electricity powered by mini windmills stationed beside the PFs. That was a first for me. Our train was on PF2 ( 3 PFs in toto) waiting to be pulled by an alco from the ED shed. The train was about 50% filled and we decided to take the last but one coach so as to get a vantage view of the 'curves'. Railfans or otherwise, we guys always look for curves, dont we? :) As luck had it, we were the only occupants of the coach! At 7.40 sharp, the ED WDM3A hooted and we were ready to go! I shall leave it to the primary author to go into the technica and finerl aspects of the 65 min long journey, while I harp on the pics I am attaching with this to explain how good the ride was. Any train ride thru the Malnad is always a treat to the eyes, and throw some hills, bridges, via-ducts and a thick green cover into the mix and it sure had to be one spl ride.
