কর্তৃপক্ষের দাবি, তাঁদের তৎপরতায় স্ফুলিঙ্গ আগুনে পরিণত হতে পারেনি, যেমন হয়েছে বনগাঁ-শিয়ালদহ লাইনে।
এখানে মাতৃভূমি স্পেশাল চালু হয়েছিল ২০০৯ সালের ৬ সেপ্টেম্বর। তাতে পুরুষরা ওঠার আংশিক অধিকার পান ২০১২ সালের ৭ ডিসেম্বর। খড়্গপুর থেকে ট্রেনটি ছাড়ে সকাল ৭টা ১০ মিনিটে। উল্টো দিকে হাওড়া থেকে ট্রেনটি ছাড়ে ৬ টা ৪২ মিনিটে। দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব রেল সূত্রের খবর, অফিসের সময়ে অন্যান্য ট্রেন যখন যাত্রীদের ভিড়ে ঠাসা থাকে, মাতৃভূমি স্পেশাল তখন কার্যত ফাঁকাই যাতায়াত করত। দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব রেলের এক পদস্থ কর্তা জানান, অনেকসময় দেখা যেত পুরো ট্রেনে যা মহিলা যাত্রী, তার তূলনায় আরপিএফ-এর সংখ্যা অনেক বেশি।
স্বভাবতই পুরুষ যাত্রীদের কাছ থেকে প্রবেশাধিকারের দাবি ওঠে। কিন্তু সঙ্গে সঙ্গে তা মেনে নেননি রেল কর্তৃপক্ষ। তাঁরা সমীক্ষা শুরু করেন। দেখা যায়, আটটির মধ্যে ট্রেনের চারটি কামরা মহিলাদের জন্য সংরক্ষিত রাখলেই চলে। বাকি চারটি কামরা সবার জন্য ছেড়ে দেওয়া যায়। দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব রেলের এক পদস্থ কর্তার দাবি, যতই মহিলা যাত্রী কম থাক তাঁদের জন্য পুরোপুরি সংরক্ষিত একটি ট্রেনে পুরুষদের প্রবেশাধিকার দেওয়ার বিষয়টি যথেষ্ট সংবেদনশীল। তাই মহিলারা যাতে নিরাপত্তাহীনতায় না ভোগেন, সেজন্য কিছু বিশেষ ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হয়েছিল।
কী সেই ব্যবস্থা? রেল সূত্রের খবর, প্রথম প্রথম ট্রেনটির চারটি কামরায় পুরুষদের প্রবেশাধিকার দেওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে দেখা যায় পিলপিল করে বিভিন্ন স্টেশন থেকে পুরুষ যাত্রীরা ট্রেনটিতে উঠে পড়ছেন। ভেস্টিবিউল ব্যবস্থা থাকায় সহজেই পুরুষ যাত্রীদের একাংশ চলে যেতে থাকেন মহিলাদের জন্য সংরক্ষিত কামরায়। মহিলাদের সঙ্গে পুরুষ যাত্রীদের ঝগড়াঝাঁটি বেধে যায়। মহিলাদের কাছ থেকে অভিযোগ পেয়েই তৎপর হন রেল কর্তৃপক্ষ।
তাঁরা মহিলা কামরাগুলিতে যথেষ্ট আরপিএফ দিয়ে দেন। মহিলা কামরায় কেউ উঠে পড়লে তাঁকে সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বের করে দেওয়া হয়। অনেক ক্ষেত্রে জরিমানা করা হয়। দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব রেলের এক পদস্থ কর্তা বলেন, ‘‘মনে রাখতে হবে, ট্রেনটি চালু হয়েছিল মহিলাদের জন্যই। তাঁদের স্বাচ্ছন্দ্য এবং নিরাপত্তায় ঘাটতি হচ্ছে এমন কোনও ধারণা যদি তাঁরা পোষণ করেন তাহলেই সমস্যা হবে। আমরা সব সময় নজর রাখি যাতে সেইরকম পরিস্থিতি না আসে।’’

Since there has been heavy rain fall all over West Bengal since 25.10.2013 night, safety measures in train running have been tightened.
·Emergency Controls havebeen opened in all the four Divisions viz., Kharagpur, Adra, Chakradharpur and Ranchi.
·Special Patrol Teams are inspecting sensitive locations viz., bridges, cuttings etc. and are on the look out for rising water levels or any other issue involving train safety.
·Strict vigil is being kept by the Railway personnel at sensitive places wherethere are water bodies near theRailway Track and watch is being kept at rising water levels.
