Bengaluru: Regular railway commuters should plan some other mode of transport on Sunday (February 10) as South Western Railway (SWR) is all set to commission the much-delayed automatic signalling system between Bengaluru Cantonment and Whitefield stations which could affect several train services.
The Railways claims to have taken several steps to avoid delays due to fog and to improve safety. The modified automatic signalling system has already been introduced in Northern Railway and North Central Railway Zones. During fog, it restricts the
number of trains to two between two stations. The same system will be implemented in Bengaluru.
“The work was delayed because of many reasons, but now, things are fine. The first stage of the signalling will be between Cantonment and Byyappanahalli, which is likely to be commissioned on the night of February 10. It increases section capacity or the ability to handle the number of trains, by almost three times. It will help in quicker movement of trains and enables operating more trains in this section,” a senior Railway official told Deccan Chronicle.
The project was sanctioned in 2013-14 at an estimated cost of Rs 19.7 crore, but the work was in suspension. While SWR is yet to issue a formal communication, sources said 12 trains are likely to be cancelled, 15 may be partially cancelled and seven will be diverted to other stations. The Railways claimed that the second stage is between Byyappanahalli to KR Puram, which is likely to be commissioned on the morning of February 18. The third stage is between KR Puram and Whitefield, which will be commissioned by the evening of February 19.
The cancelled trains include: 12677/12678 KSR Bengaluru-Ernakulam-Bengaluru Express (Feb. 10), 56503 Bengaluru Cantonment-Vijayawada Passenger (Feb. 10), 56504 Vijayawada-Bengaluru Cantonment (Feb. 9), 16522/16521 KSR Bengaluru-Bangarpet-Bengaluru (Feb. 10), 16236/16235 Mysuru-Tuticorin-Mysuru (Feb. 9), 56507/56508 Marikuppam-KSR Bengaluru-Marikuppam (Feb. 10), 56511/56512 Bangarpet-Marikuppam-Bangarapet (Feb. 10).

IRCTC survey asked passengers about toilets, linen, housekeeping to rank trains
The results of the first-ever ‘Total Cleanliness Survey’ of the Railways are now out, and the winners are North Western Railway (NWR), which topped the zonal rankings in the ‘Premium’ category trains, and Southern Railway, which came out on top in the ‘Other than Premium’ category’ trains.
The survey covered 209 trains and was conducted by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation. Its aim was to assess the progress of the ‘Swachh Rail-Swachh Bharat’ mission and promote healthy competition among trains.

While the NWR got an average score of 860 out of 1,000 in the ‘Premium’ category, South Central Railway finished at the bottom with an average of 658. Southern Railway topped the ‘Other than Premium’ category’, with the highest average of 736 among the 16 railway zones, while the East Central Railway was the dirtiest in this group, with an average of 572. The ‘Premium’ trains included the Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Tejas and Gatiman while Sampark Kranti, Intercity, Jan Shatabdi and other Mail and Express trains were in the ‘Other than Premium’ category.
The overall score of the Rajdhani trains was 787. This included separate scores for process audit, direct observation, and passenger feedback. Out of the 23 Rajdhanis surveyed, the Mumbai Rajdhani emerged on top with 875, followed by those linking Bhubaneswar and Sealdah.
Among 26 Shatabdi trains, the Pune-Secunderabad Shatabdi, with 916, finished on top, followed by the Howrah-Ranchi and Delhi-Kanpur Shatabdis. The Kochuveli-Chandigarh Sampark Kranti was the cleanest among the 20 Sampark Kranti trains, with a score of 754. The KSR Bengalaru-Ernakulam train topped among 20 Intercity services.
Opinion of on-board passengers was sought on toilets, housekeeping, linen and general cleanliness.
A total of 15,360 passengers from 16 zones, took part in the survey

Rank toh 1st mil gaya "Premium Category" mein par train ka kuch ata pata nahi 😂😂😂.
Ajmer Jan Shatabdi can be one but according to this survey it has been included in Other Than Premium Trains ("Sampark Kranti, Intercity, Jan Shatabdi and other Mail and Express trains were in the ‘Other than Premium’ category")
Yeh toh bada ghotala ho gaya 😂😂😂😂

Ok this is useful information, then why is SR ranked 1st in Other Than Premium Trains Category.
There can't be 2 winners.
They've specifically mentioned SR, so it must be a winner in some category.
And if SR is winning in Other Than Premium Trains Category then there must be a Premium Train category.
this is confusing🧐🧐🧐. Its even more confusing than a Stanley Kubrick Movie. 😂😂😂

The best part is the other article which quotes 'A Railway Ministry spokesperson told ToI that the survey results have not been made public yet "since there were some issues with the modalities of the survey and it is being reworked." However, the government has made the ranking of stations on Swachhta parameters public.
Only railway officials can tell how this happens !!

More than a year after railway passengers on Hosur section staged a protest against the delay of trains, agitated commuters of Dharmapuri Passenger protested in front of Ernakulam Intercity train at Heelalige station on Tuesday.
Two passengers who travel on the route told DH that the Ernakulam Intercity Superfast Express (12677) was delayed by over 45 minutes and the cascading effect resulted in trains on the Hosur line getting delayed for about an hour.
“Thousands of people travel from Hosur to Carmelaram to reach their offices on the Dharmapuri DEMU. As the Ernakulam
Express was delayed, the DEMU train was stopped at Heelalige for nearly an hour. This agitated the passengers, who got down the train and crossed over to the other track to stage a protest,” said Navin, a regular commuter.
Railways officials have previously said that such delays were the result of congestion on the track, especially on the single line connecting the Hosur section. The morning peak hours see arrival and departure of several trains on the mainline between Bengaluru and Chennai, which has contributed to the delay of Ernakulam Express.
Suhas Narayanamurthy, another regular commuter, said trains on the route were delayed almost every day and commuters have written to the railways several times seeking a solution. “The Yashwantpur-Hosur DEMU was also delayed on Tuesday. However, stopping a superfast train is not the answer to the problem. But railways has to find a solution at the earliest,” he said.
Navin said train delays directly affect their work life as they are forced to work overtime to make up for arriving late to office. Railway officials were not available for comment.
