Welcoming move to change the departure time of the train 12671 to the old time (before June 2019) which was 09:05 PM because the train 12671 was either made to stop at Bommidi (BQI), Karuppur or a unknown station after Salem (SA) for the train 22639 to overtake which is foolish.
The train 12671 must be made to overtake the train 22639 at Jolarpettai Jn JTJ because the train 12671 does not stop here.

Works undertaken to renovate Mettupalayam Station at a cost of ₹ 80 lakh will be completed by the end of this year, railway sources said.
A railway official told The Hindu that creation of yard, pit line, and terminal facilities could result in trains extended from Coimbatore and terminated at Mettuppalayam.
Rail activist S. Ravi said that the Southern Railway must invest in more platforms and maintenance facilities at Mettupalayam station to operate more trains in the future. He said that the station served as the railhead for the Nilgiris district, where a

significant number of people from southern districts and neighbouring States resided.
“Tourists who want to visit Goa, Kanyakumari or Rameswaram after visiting the Nilgiris will be benefited if the railways introduced trains to these destinations from Mettuppalayam,” he said.
Noting that an entire rake of train no. 12671 Blue Mountain Express from Chennai to Coimbatore is being taken to Mettupalayam upon arrival at the Coimbatore Junction, Mr. Ravi called this “a very significant achievement for the Mettupalayam Station.”
Regarding the extension of rail services to Mettupalayam, Mr. Ravi said a proposal to extend train no. 22610 Intercity Express running between Coimbatore and Mangalore to Mettupalayam has not materialised. He also suggested the extension of train no. 22475 Hisar – Coimbatore AC SF Express to Mettupalayam.
Any demand for introduction of new trains or increase in frequency is often met with the reply that there are no adequate terminal or maintenance facilities at the Coimbatore Junction as it is landlocked, members of the Coimbatore Railway Struggle Committee said.
Salem Division of the Southern Railway plans to appoint from next week senior most ticket checking staff as Train Captains in three long distance mail/express trains operating under its control, a senior official said on Wednesday.
The concept of Train Captain was introduced in 12671/12672 Mettupalayam-Chennai Central-Mettupalayam Nilgiri Express in the second week of January 2017 on a pilot basis.
The official told The Hindu that the division is in the process of nominating senior most ticket checking staff as Train Captain for the three long distance mail/express trains orginating from Coimbatore and

Salem junctions. This is in line with the recent circular of the railway board, which has said that all the zonal railways have to introduce the concept of single person/leader responsible for co-ordinating the entire team and facilitating all services during the complete journey of the train.
Premium trains such as Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Duranto have Train Superintendent on end-to-end basis. All onboard railway personnel and supervisors of all outsourcing agencies shall report to the Train Captain, as it would help ensure improvement in on-board services, the circular said.
The divisional railway has to ensure that the name and contact number of the Train Captain is available to the passsengers through reservation charts and the same should be reached to every reserved passenger travelling in the trains.
Following the circular, the Salem Division is in the process of introducing Train Captain for Train No. 22666/22665 Coimbatore-KSR Bengaluru-Coimbatore UDAY Express, 12673/12674 Coimbatore-Chennai Central-Coimbatore Cheran Express and 22154/22153 Salem-Chennai Egmore-Salem Express from the beginning of next week, a top official of the Salem Division said.
The Salem division is operating an average of 90 express/mail trains every week, the official adds.

SALEM: The Blue Mountain Express is expected to commence operations between Mettupalayam and Madurai soon. Southern Railway officials have sent a proposal in this regard to the railway board headquarters.
The plan to start the service to Madurai was unveiled when the divisional railway manager U Subbarao visited the Mettupalayam station recently.
“We conducted a survey and came to know about

the public demand for a train between Mettupalayam and Madurai,” an official with the Salem railway division said.
The Blue Mountain Express, which runs between Mettupalayam and Chennai, presently lies idle at the Mettupalayam railway station during the daytime.
The train departs Mettupalayam at 7.45pm and reaches Chennai at 5.5am. It then leaves Chennai at 9.15pm and reaches Mettupalayam at 6.15am.
The official said the plan was to introduce to and fro service to Madurai, instead of keeping the express train stationed at Mettupalayam diuring the daytime.
Now that the Pollachi line has become functional, we have sent the proposal to operate the train, the official said and added that the train timings and stoppings would be decided after the proposal gets approval.
Another official source, meanwhile, said works on the platform and foot over-bridge were on at the Mettupalayam railway station. “The service will start after the work is completed,” the source said.
Major engineering works have been taken up for modification and improvement of Arakkonam yard. To facilitate these engineering works, changes will be made in the pattern of train services on 04.05.2018 as detailed below.
