PATNA: The Rajendranagar Railway station of East Central Railway (ECR), headquartered at Bihar's Hajipur with five divisions under command, has come first among more than seven hundred stations of the Indian Railways in the Green Station Ranking for its contribution in reducing global warming.
This station in Patna has been placed in the first position with a score of 95.5% in the survey conducted by the Quality Council of India.

16 zones in the entire Indian Railways with a remarkable improvement of 12 places in reducing the global warming.
"The ECR's 52 stations have also obtained the ISO-14001:2015 certificates after being selected under the national green authority act with works done to promote non conventional energy on a large scale", Kumar said, adding further that other works in the direction of green cover, solid waste management, energy management and other eco friendly moves are being carried out.
Besides all this,Kumar said that rainwater harvesting system has also been installed at 10 railway station buildings at Patna junction, Rajendra nagar, Danapur, Patliputra, Dhanbad, Barkakana, Gomoh, Barwadhih, chopan and Tori.
"Side by side during the financial year of 2019-20, water and energy audits of 52 stations under all the five divisions at Danapur, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhayay, Dhanbad, Samastipur and Sonepur,  have been carried out", Kumar claimed, adding that organic waste manure plants are already installed at Muzaffarpur, Rajendranagar, Sonepur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Jaynagar, Saharsa and Raxaul.

Some important steps are listed as below:
•                     49,487 Bio-toilets installed in 14,916 coaches during 2019-20. This takes the cumulative numbers of bio-toilets to more than 2,45,400 fitted in 68,800 coaches with a coverage of 100%.
•                     No single use plastic material from 150th Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd Oct 2019.
•                     Considering the efforts of Railways, Ministry of Railways has been adjudged as the best effort by a Ministry for implementation of ‘Swachhta Action Plan’, and was awarded by President of India on 06th Sept 2019.
•                     200 Railway Stations certified for implementation of Environment Management System to ISO: 14001 in 2019-20.
•                     Integrated mechanized cleaning is now provided at 953 stations.
•                     Independent third party Survey of passenger perception on cleanliness standards was carried out at 720 Stations in 2019-20 against 407 stations.
•                     More than 1100 pairs of trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto and other important long distance Mail/Express trains are having facility of On Board House Keeping Service (OBHS) for cleaning of coach toilets, doorways, aisles and passenger compartments during the run of the trains.

In order to provide clean environment and smooth travel experience to its passengers, Indian railways has taken various steps under Swachh Bharat, Swachh Railways initiative.

Some important steps are listed as below:

भारतीय रेल दुनिया के सर्वश्रेष्ठ रेल नेटवर्कों में से एक अपने नेटवर्क के माध्यम से अपने यात्रियों को विश्व स्तर की सुविधाएं प्रदान करने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है। अपने यात्रियों को स्वच्छ वातावरण और सुगम यात्रा का अनुभव प्रदान करने के लिए भारतीय रेल ने ‘स्वच्छ भारत, स्वच्छ रेल’ पहल के अंतर्गत विभिन्न कदम उठाए हैं।

इनमें से कुछ महत्वपूर्ण कदम नीचे दिए गए हैं:

2019-20 के दौरान 14,916 रेल डिब्बों में 49,487 जैव-शौचालय लगाए गए। इसके साथ ही 100 फीसदी कवरेज के साथ 68,800 कोचों में लगाए गए जैव शौचालयों की संयुक्त संख्या 2,45,400 से अधिक हो गई है।

2 अक्टूबर 2019 को 150वीं गांधी जयंती के बाद से सिंगल यूज़ प्लास्टिक के किसी सामान का कोई उपयोग नहीं।

रेलवे के प्रयासों को ध्यान में रखते हुए 'स्वच्छ कार्य योजना’ के कार्यान्वयन के लिए रेल मंत्रालय को किसी मंत्रालय द्वारा किए गए सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रयास के लिए चुना गया, और भारत के राष्ट्रपति द्वारा 06 सितंबर 2019 को सम्मानित किया गया।

200 रेलवे स्टेशनों को 2019-20 में पर्यावरण प्रबंधन प्रणाली का कार्यान्वयन आईएसओ: 14001 तक करने के लिए प्रमाणित किया गया।

एकीकृत मशीनीकृत सफाई का काम अब 953 स्टेशनों में प्रदान किया जाता है।

स्वच्छता मानकों पर यात्री धारणा का स्वतंत्र, तीसरे पक्ष का सर्वेक्षण 2019-20 में 720 स्टेशनों पर किया गया जो पूर्व में 407 स्टेशनों के लिए किया गया था।

राजधानी, शताब्दी, दूरंतो और अन्य महत्वपूर्ण लंबी दूरी की मेल / एक्सप्रेस रेलगाड़ियों सहित 1100 जोड़ी से अधिक रेलगाड़ियों में यात्रा के दौरान शौचालयों, दरवाजों, गलियारों और यात्री डिब्बों की सफाई के लिए ट्रेन पर हाउस कीपिंग सेवा (ओबीएचएस) की सुविधा मौजूद है।

'कोच-मित्र' सेवा की मांग पर आधारित एसएमएस द्वारा समर्थित ओबीएचएस सेवा अब 1060 जोड़ी से अधिक ट्रेनों को कवर करेगी।

एसी कोच के यात्रियों को दी जाने वाली चद्दरों की धुलाई की गुणवत्ता में सुधार के लिए मशीनीकृत लॉन्ड्री स्थापित की जा रही है। वित्त वर्ष 2019-20 (कुल 68) में 8 मशीनीकृत लॉन्ड्री स्थापित।

स्टेशनों में उत्पन्न प्लास्टिक कचरे को कम करने, पुनर्चक्रण करने और निपटाने के लिए एक पहल के रूप में, ज़ोनल रेलवे द्वारा प्लास्टिक बॉटल क्रशिंग मशीन (पीबीसीएम) की स्थापना के लिए व्यापक नीतिगत दिशा-निर्देशों को लाया गया है। वर्तमान में, भारतीय रेलवे के कई जिला मुख्यालय रेलवे स्टेशनों सहित 229 स्टेशनों पर लगभग 315 पीबीसीएम लगाई गईं हैं।

2019-20 (कुल 20) में 8 स्थानों पर स्वचालित डिब्बे धोने के संयंत्र (एसीडब्ल्यूपी) स्थापित किए गए हैं।

स्टेशनों पर पानी भरने के समय को कम करने के लिए 2019-20 (कुल 44) में 29 स्थानों पर त्वरित जल भरने की सुविधा स्थापित की गई है।
