Although being a crawler, this train is easily the most important train from West Bengal to the north-east. The train is quite prioritized on its route. Kamrup Express being late is a rare phenomenon, although seen sometimes in the winter season. The train is ISO rated, but none of those standards are seen in the non-AC classes. The AC coaches are also not the best maintained coaches, but get the job done. The bedsheets, pillows and blanket provided are pretty clean. Charging sockets are seen in all AC coaches, but none of the non-AC coaches in which I have travelled had Charging sockets. The train has many stoppages en-route, hence many general and daily travellers get into the Sleeper class coaches in this train, hence long distance travellers should opt the AC classes. This is the only daily train from Howrah to beyond Guwahati and towards Dibrugarh, hence remains full throughout...

Kamrup was one of my favorite trains to travel in and was frequented by my father who used to work in Tinsukia. I remember in my first travel in sleeper there were many passengers who boarded in the intermediate stations and told 'thoda adjust kariye na'. In AC however, the crowd is quite less and also well maintained. AC should always be the preferred one in this train.
Indeed Kamrup is a lifeline for people of Assam, especially beyond Guwahati.
Even from HWH-GHY it is useful for people especially for the passengers of those stations where Saraighat or KOAA-DBRG SF does not stop.
Are you sure it is ISO certified? The way you have described, it appears that the ISO certification may have been withdrawn. If my knowledge is right there are two ISO certifications 2000 and 2008 which apply to IR. I think those which were certified under ISO 2000 may not have been certified under ISO 2008. There has been a previous discussion on ISO in IRI: /faq/post/407. I accessed this website in google which mentions just 13 trains are ISO 2008 certified: click here . I dont know how reliable this website is.
Actually the website mentions about the ISO certification, hence I have said the same. The condition of the train definitely does not show any upgrade over conventional Mail/Express trains, so it is possible that the certification may have been withdrawn. It would be great if anyone can give an appropriate information for the same.

In this blog i had talked about the sanitation problem in the 3AC compartment. If this was the condition in 3AC than what will be the condition in sleeper class.
Good train for those passengers where Saraighat doesn't stops before Guwahati. The coaches are well maintained. You have to book early tickets if you want to travel in this train otherwise you will get waiting list and its very hard to clear waiting list in this train.
Alu Vada or Alu Bonda is available for 4 pieces for 20 rupees,,

I like this train because I travelled in this train at 2003 in my childhood.
This train is only one of the two trains to go from Kolkata/Howrah to Dibrugarh Town and passes some important places like KishanGanj of Bihar and Dimapur of Nagaland. Plus, this train is regular and has a timing that is beneficial to a traveler or a working person (5.35 pm departure and 5.55 am arrival at Dibrugarh). So, the ticket is always in demand in this train. You have to get tickets in advance especially in the season of summer
