Bhopal/Ratlam: The Ratlam division technical/construction department of the western railways has appealed to union railway minister to allocate Rs 100 crore for gauge conversion on Fatehabad-Mhow track in the forthcoming union railway budget.
Work on Ratlam-Fatehabad gauge conversion began from this January and is to be followed up with Fatehabad-Mhow section to be followed later on with Mhow-Khandwa section. The first phase, which is already underway, is scheduled for completion by next fiscal in April end.

The Ratlam-Mhow metre gauge line had started in 1876 and its Khandwa-Akola section was completed in 1961. The gauge conversion of this 685.75 Kms long line was sanctioned in 2008-09 with the estimated cost of Rs 1421.25 crore. It has three sections Ratlam-Khandwa (298.64), Khandwa-Akola (174-Kms) and Ratlam-Mhow (147.5-Kms).
Since the project was approved barely 3% work has been completed on this route in the last three years.
