********************* Stoppage Removal Suggestions for Indian Trains ********************
Dear IRI Members,
.
Till now many of us have been suggesting addition of new stoppages in many Superfast or Mail-Express Trains that are veterans or newbies. This time I would like all of you'll to suggest some stoppages that need to be removed from such trains' schedules to speed them up en route so that

they don't remain late-mongers.

This blog thread is dedicated to IR Train Stoppage Removal and the step qualifies for #TrackReforms #StoppageRemoval

Kindly use Disagree Opinion rather than Objection for a constructive discussion instead of locking the thread. Tagging of train and stoppage names is optional :-)

Also some stations are there who are given unnecessary priority (as per my opinion only, people are free to disagree). For Ex: if I look into NFR, then I see KNE has been given absolute priority. I tried to find the reason behind this status, but couldn't find any. Kishanganj is not a very large town, merely 107,076 people live there (Source: Wikipedia); it is not a major industrial hub; it is not a zonal headquarter like MLDT; not a place of tourist interest or an important gateway like NJP; it's just a district headquarter (like thousands of towns and cities). So why is this station given so much power? Why each and every train including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Garibrath, AC, Superfasts etc etc stops here?
Can

I see, from a long time I had been wondering that the status of KNE is just due to political reason. So I was not wrong. It's a shame that a very ordinary place without any proper quality is making IR on it's knee in front of it just with a strong political background. Sigh...

I understand your concern, and I have a possible alternate solution for this issue for you.
As per my opinion, you can demand a halt for Yuva instead of a new Raj halt. That would be beneficial in both ways. Yuva being a fast service as per Raj would serve the cause. Also I don't think an extra halt for Yuva won't be subject of much noise like Raj. It's counter part (HWH-NJP ACSF) already stops at BWN. Further Yuva now has 2A and 3A. So if number of 2A and3A are increased by reducing the CC then it won't be a bad idea. Thus BWN will get fast Raj-type service 3-days-a-week (1 day Raj and 2 days Yuva) which would be

adequate I think.

Friends, if you are not aware what is today, today is International Level Crossing Day. So I wish you all happy and safe journey if you are having any.
Some small facts related to this topic:
1) Total level crossings at our country are around 33000;
2) Manned level crossings are 18000 roughly;
3)
...
more...
Unmanned lc's are 15000;
4) Over 40% of rail accidents happen at level crossings;
5) IR to take a scheme named 'Rail Mitra' where uniformed 3rd party vendors will protect the unmanned lc's on behalf of IR;
6) IR has given a strict message to the drivers not to use headfones while crossing an lc. Otherwise strict action can be taken.
It is a shame that many people in our country are not aware of the level crossing regulations. Or may be they are in so much hurry that they can't show the luxary to obey the rule. It is also unfortunate that strong media like movies don't teach people to obey it, rather they influence to break it. To inform you, as per railway act 89, trying to cross an lc improperly is a punishable offence, resulting Rs 1000 fine or 1 year jail. So let's try to obey the rule, be safe, keep other people safe.
Pic courtesy:
1) Pic taken by me- a person is crossing a closed lc;
2) A scene from a famous car related Hollywood movie, there are countless other movie examples like this where cars are breaking through level crossings.
Thanks for reading.

Also I would like to add one point in favor of the people.
It is also true at the gatemen many times close the LC for an unnecessarily longer period. Say if the train is 10-15KMs away, then there is no reason to close the gate from now. They should give adequate time to people. Many times thus it happens that an LC is closed almost for an hour, many LCs are closed at least half of the day. No a person may not have that much time to spare. What would they do! They have no other way than crossing the LC.

That I don't deny. Even I can recall in my childhood days I have seen some LC's as gate-type. They all later were changed to polar-type.

Santragachhi to become a terminal in 3-4 years...
.
The railway station at Santragachhi will be developed into a terminal in three to four years to allow South Eastern Railway (SER) more flexibility in operations. Though some long-distance trains do originate and terminate at Santragachhi at present, it doesn't have the facilities that a terminal should. Most SER trains are forced to use the congested Howrah station where operations are controlled by Eastern Railway (ER).
Santragachhi,

once it becomes a terminal, will be popular among those living in south Kolkata as it can be easily reached via Vidyasagar Setu. With a bus terminal being built there, accessibility to the terminal will also improve.
.
“Till now, funds were a problem. This year, we have received Rs 75 crore and work can start. IRCON is handling the project. The total project cost is about Rs 300 crore. We should be completing it in the next 3-4 years.The Shalimar station will also be developed.We are also working on a fourth line at the Tikiapara yard to improve punctuality . At present, there is a lot of congestion and trains get detained. Though the cost involved is not high (about Rs 15 crore), the work will take time as it is a large yard,“ SER general manager Radhey Shyam said.
.
Passenger and Customer Facilitation Fortnight is being observed across Indian Railways and on Tuesday , both Shyam and his ER counterpart R K Gupta travelled on suburban trains and spoke to commuters to get their feedback.“The passengers I spoke to complained of detention and punctuality . We will take steps to improve the situation,“ Shyam said.
