Friends, if you are not aware what is today, today is International Level Crossing Day. So I wish you all happy and safe journey if you are having any.
Some small facts related to this topic:
1) Total level crossings at our country are around 33000;
2) Manned level crossings are 18000 roughly;
3)...

Unmanned lc's are 15000;
4) Over 40% of rail accidents happen at level crossings;
5) IR to take a scheme named 'Rail Mitra' where uniformed 3rd party vendors will protect the unmanned lc's on behalf of IR;
6) IR has given a strict message to the drivers not to use headfones while crossing an lc. Otherwise strict action can be taken.
It is a shame that many people in our country are not aware of the level crossing regulations. Or may be they are in so much hurry that they can't show the luxary to obey the rule. It is also unfortunate that strong media like movies don't teach people to obey it, rather they influence to break it. To inform you, as per railway act 89, trying to cross an lc improperly is a punishable offence, resulting Rs 1000 fine or 1 year jail. So let's try to obey the rule, be safe, keep other people safe.

Santragachhi to become a terminal in 3-4 years...

The railway station at Santragachhi will be developed into a terminal in three to four years to allow South Eastern Railway (SER) more flexibility in operations. Though some long-distance trains do originate and terminate at Santragachhi at present, it doesn't have the facilities that a terminal should. Most SER trains are forced to use the congested Howrah station where operations are controlled by Eastern Railway (ER).

“Till now, funds were a problem. This year, we have received Rs 75 crore and work can start. IRCON is handling the project. The total project cost is about Rs 300 crore. We should be completing it in the next 3-4 years.The Shalimar station will also be developed.We are also working on a fourth line at the Tikiapara yard to improve punctuality . At present, there is a lot of congestion and trains get detained. Though the cost involved is not high (about Rs 15 crore), the work will take time as it is a large yard,“ SER general manager Radhey Shyam said.

Passenger and Customer Facilitation Fortnight is being observed across Indian Railways and on Tuesday , both Shyam and his ER counterpart R K Gupta travelled on suburban trains and spoke to commuters to get their feedback.“The passengers I spoke to complained of detention and punctuality .
