TEN to MS by 6120 Nellai Exp - Part 2: ALCO-filled Night (Dec 1999): This turned out to be one of my favorite overnight journeys behind an ALCO, since the GOC WDM2 in charge was a royal chugger and my 2A coach was 2nd from the loco. Naturally, ALCO sounds - chugs, honking, uneven idling - are liberally sprinkled throughout the video. This covers the journey from Madurai till Villupuram. Be sure to enjoy the following:

I was fortunate to travel in this beauty twice in 1979 and 1980. What an amazing livery it had - bright yellow and vermillion red. Halts when introduced - TATA, ROU, DURG, NGP, AK, BSL and tech halts at BSP and IGP. Within a year, Dadar was introduced and BSP became commercial. And IGP became commercial only in Dn. And that is how it was when I traveled in 1979. But cracking runs - simply blew past NK raising a cloud of dust. And zero unauthorized pax in SL.

Raipur was added in 1980. Bcoz in 1979, my train did not have a halt there (and no KYN either). Though I was awake to witness the loco change from WDM2 to WAM4 at Durg, I slept off after that and was not sure whether it actually bypassed it (taking the Urkura-Sanora bypass) or went through the station. In summer of 1980, I took the Gitanjali special (running on a 5th day), using the regular Gitanjali rake, which also did not have a halt at Raipur. But my 1979 Gitanjali trip was truly special - my SLR-cum-3-tier-coach was next to the loco - we got a WCAM1 till IGP, then WAM4 till BSL, then WDM2 till Durg, then a WAM4 again. Varanasi to Bhusaval by Mahanagri Exp. - July 1992: On our return journey to Bombay, we decided to stop for a day at Bhusaval to spend time with my uncle and family. My uncle used to be the DRM of Bhusaval at that time. This video footage is very precious to me, since it has my only coverage of WDM4 locos in action and a steam-hauled MG train. Bombay to Varanasi by Mahanagri Exp. - July 1992: This was my wife's first trip to my birthplace. We had been married for just over two weeks when we made the journey. The chosen accommodation was AC 2-tier. Back then, Mahanagri still boasted of some good runs including a non-stop one from Manmad to Bhusaval. Be sure to enjoy the following:
