1. If you are travelling towards Indore from Mubai and finding Avantika waitlisted, then just try using this train. Book ticket from KJT (Karjat) with boarding at Vasai Road. Generally, this train is RAC when Avantika is waitlisted. When heavily waitlisted both are so...
2. Now if you stay towards Mumbai Central from Vasai Road, then reaching Vasai Road could be a challenge in evening peak hours.
Here comes real tip: Reach Borivali Platform 2 before 6:37. A local will come from Virar side and it will become 6:53 slow for Vasai

Road. Get in with your luggage and get down at Vasai Road, as it is last station. One more problem you will face at Vasai Road is to walk between large crowd with luggage on squeezed platform to reach foot over bridge to reach desired platform of Pune Indore.

If you miss this train at Indore, don't panic. Catch 12962 Avantika departing at 16:25. You will be able to catch Indore NZM intercity at Nagda, without any hassles... In fact you need not climb stairs as well, on one side of platform is Avantika and other side is this train... (Just pray that TTE donot allot your berth to someone else. Otherwise try to get in touch with TTE via some one in Ujjain, Dewas ...

1. Why or how often would passengers miss the train, after long advance planning?
There can be any reason like stuck in traffic jam... Or coming from near by village to Indore to catch train and bus broke down... Or plans to travel in general class... My relatives have missed trains from Ratlam due to bad roads to reach ratlam due to heavy rains leading to potholes.
2. Did it happen to you, and did you know of this tip beforehand, or did you just try it out?

recent months I travelled twice from Indore in Avantika (latest one being this Sunday night) and always reached station before departure of INDB NZM Intercity. But on both occasions when I reached Nagda, I saw that train standing... On reaching office yesterday I just found that the timings are in such a way that this can become a tip.
3. Did you get your allotted berth in the missed train at Nagda?
Never travelled in INDB NZM Intercity.

If you are trying a ticket in this train and not able to get. Try following option. Get a ticket in Avadh Express, which runs just before it and generally TTE are able to accomodate you in Avadh by charging differential fare between UR and SL. Get down at Dahod. At Dahod, on the same platform on which you get down from Avadh, after few minutes comes 22901. So you can have nice sleep in avadh and then spend rest of day journey in 22901. I have tried it myself once.

If you see route, both trains run back to back from BDTS till Dahod. I have always observed that no overtaking happens before Ratlam. Avadh first reaches Ratlam followed by 22901. At times both meet at Ratlam Platform 5 and Platform 6 and then moves for their respective destinations. Avadh towards Nagda and 22901 towards Mandsaur.

If you are alone and looking for a ticket in this train and not able to get it dont worry. Try its general coaches. They are six in number 3 at each end. Again since train is not too old, many people who travel in general class are unaware about it. Pretty good chances of getting a comfortable seat and even chance to sleep in its general coaches.

Even If you want to travel upto Ratlam, book tickets upto Ujjain for easy confirmation.
Again in return when you want to travel from Ratlam to Mumbai side, book ticket from Ujjain and get boarding changed to Ratlam for east confirmation.

These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
