Onward journey on 26/8/15 was excellent. On time most of the time, clean compartment, clean toilets. Food served in the train was sub standard. Should be improved.
If there is waitlist in general as well as tatkal, how does railways allot? For example gen WL 25, Tatkal WL 25.

Response not very clear to me pl. If I am WL 1 is Gen but WL 25 in Tatkal, will Tatkal still get preference?

Sorry, no answer is fully clear please. The question is, what is railway's policy on release of Gen WL vs Tatkal WL? How do they decide? Can anyone spell out the formula clearly, please?

Thank you very much for the precise clarity. I appreciate it. I still have one hypothetical query. Let us say there is a person with Gen WL 145 and another with Tatkal WL 1. Will Tatkal WL 1 be cleared only after all Gen WL is cleared. Appears unlikely.
May be the WL in each category is released against cancellations in that category? Is it possible to know exactly how the railway procedure works?

Thanks to both of you for your patient reply and care. I am touched. It is clear that we cannot be 100% clear and Railways seem to have a lot of discretion. may be there should be a campaign for more transparency of policy.
