This train does have feasibility as per NWR's proposal to extend up to Rameswaram for two reasons apart from the fact of another train having more chances and feasibility to extend up to RMM, which is SGNR-TPJ Humsafar Express even though it bypasses majority of TN's imp station, not a problem though since it provides connectivity to UBL, MRJ. Main concern is, whether SCR agreed to this since its their rake and whether SR agreed to give path?

Now getting to the point about feasibility,
Reason

number 1. Having a slot all the way from NED up to RMM(path of 09519/20) via KCG with two-three options between KPD-RMM which can also save hrs of time to do PM at RMM.

2. Sufficient lie-over time and turn around time at NED(Existing RSA of this train can be arranged with other rakes, now that LHB conversion is happening frequently)

This route/extension will provide Rajasthan, Gujarat connectivity to Major TN, AP and TL towns and cities compared to Humsafar~ some stations being first time and others, additional connectivity.

Likewise it also provides good Pilgrimage Connectivity (TPTY, TNM, TPJ/Entire Mainline, MDU, RMM) to AP, TL and MH pilgrims and Vice Versa.

What do you think?

Agree Agree Agree
I agree that connectivity wise this extension will serve better but it is way much circuitous (Already MDU - OKHA plies on a similar route). But, I am not against it or supporting the extension though.
.
I think you are underestimating the connection SGNR TPJ provides for TPJ or if it will get extended to RMM. TPJ SGNR is one single train passing through many major metropolitan cities like Salem, Bengaluru (K.R.Puram), Davangere, Hubbali, Belagavi (one can take buses here for Panjim), Kolhapur (from Miraj/belagavi), Pune, Kalyan (for Mumbai), Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad,

Marwar(for ajmer), Jodhpur, Bikaner through shorter route and convenient timings. Among the above places, many doesn't even have their direct train to rameswaram say for eg. Mumbai.
.
Moreover, it does byepass only Jolarpettai at Tamilnadu. Even if it gets extended to rameswaram, it would be covering Ramanathapuram distri ct, western parts of sivagangai and pudukottai districts, Tiruchy, karur, namakkal, salem, thirupathur districts which is obviously not just a small part of tamilnadu. Agree it can get more halts in Tamilnadu though.
.
I genuinely believe that extension of SGNR - TPJ - SGNR would be one of the best bet for Rameswaram in terms of connectivity.

Agree
I am neutral towards this extension. But a new weekly in this slot will be best solution than disturbing existing pattern. TPJ SGNR already providing the base connectivity. A weekly in this slot would be boon to pilgrims travelling.

I'm not under estimating Humsafar, it's just that I'm trying to uncover the reason behind NWR's proposal. I agree to majority of points you said including the circuitous MDU OKHA SPL, in fact you know I also posted a blog welcoming TPJ ADI diversion offering direct connectivity to KLBG,SUR, PUNE and Mumbai with Ahmedabad.

In my POV, existing MDU SPL and this proposal are much alike and caters to different sections, can also be split and said as ADI-KCG-MDU via NED, TPTY/RU, TNM/Mainline. You understand what I am trying to say

right?
Instead of end to end bookings, this will have section wise bookings. There are lot of long distance trains from TN via Chennai and Best example here is MDU-OKHA or we can say ADI-KCG-TNM-(MDU/RMM). Both trains are/will cater differently and in this train, there are SL, 3A coaches..

Once again, I too expect shortest and straight route once it gets out of TN but here the motive is different, At the same time NWR's proposal exposed that SCR can also operate a special using the same rake in the said slot/ RMM-OKHA(SR) slot with minor modifications b/w KPD-RMM.

Thing is, it is always not necessary for trains between two places to take shortest possible route and sometimes, the connectivity also matters, and yes the concept of split caterance does work quite well for many such existing trains.
.
But, trains like 22723/24, 12485/86 for that matter has its own caterance and there are good number of rajasthani people live in the region of Marathwada and, there are only handful of trains dedicated for them from Marathwada to Rajasthan and among those, more than half are passing through ones (trains like HYB

- JP - HYB triweekly, HYB - HSR - HYB weekly, JP - KRNT - JP weekly). Issue is, even if these trains are extended then ticket availablity for them (i.e, the quota allocation) will be very much decreased. So, it is better trains like 22723/22724 and 12485/12486 remains the same way as it is now, dedicated to Marathwada for Rajasthan. Though NWR proposed this one, hope it doesn't gets through.
.
There is no doubt that that route needs an enhanced connectivity with split caterance, which already a weekly regular train ( RMM - OKHA - RMM ) and a weekly special train ( OKHA - MDU - OKHA ) is satisfying via Aurangabad and via Akola respectively. Adding to that, a train in that route to Rajasthan would be very much appreciated.
.
For that, 06181/82 Coimbatore - Bhagat ki Kothi - Coimbatore special, which runs in a route and slot similar to OKHA - MDU - OKHA, should be made a regular train IMO.
