KARWAR: About 16 cattle were killed in Hosagadde village of Ankola taluk on Monday night when they came under the Mumbai-Kerala superfast train.
This incident affected the movement of Mumbai-Mangalore Vegadoot train for few hours. According to sources, about 40 cattle were standing on the railway track while the accident took place.
The torso of many buffaloes were separated from the
body in the accident and were recovered from the distance of about 500 meters away from the accident spot. The driver of the train reportedly informed the Madanageri station about the accident and proceeded further.
Farmers of Hosagadde village, mainly dependent on the cattle for agriculture activities and milk, were seen grieving at site of accident. When the railway officials arrived on the spot, the farmers refused to admit their ownership of the cattle, fearing that the officials would impose a fine on the owner of the cattle found on the railway track.
The spot was cleared by railway authorities who brought earth movers for the purpose.
