confirmed in toto whenever an extra coach was attached in these trains. Besides this, tatkal waiting list of sleeper class was also cleared in trains where extra sleeper coaches were attached, the release added. The passengers of WR have been benefitted to a great extent who had to travel in urgency and booked their tickets in tatkal in WR trains. In 12901 Gujarat Mail, 71 waitlisted ticket in tatkal got confirmed in sleeper class on 8/6/2012 while a considerable long waiting list of 67 was cleared in 3AC on 9/6/2012 in the same train. Similarly, all the 22 waitlisted passengers in 3AC & all the 35 waitlisted passengers in Economy 3AC class of 12267 Mumbai Central – Ahmedabad Duronto Express got confirmed berths on 13th June, 2012 in the extra coaches. It is also mentioned here that priority for confirmation of waitlisted tatkal tickets in extra coaches is being given as per directives of the Railway Board. The remaining berths/seats of the extra coaches are allotted to the general waitlisted passengers. A normal 2AC coach has 46 berths, 3AC coach 64 berths and a II class sleeper coach has 72 berths while a 2AC Rajdhani coach has a capacity of 54 berths and 3AC coach has 72 berths. In Duronto Express, a 3AC coach has 64 berths while a Economy 3AC coach has a capacity of 78 berths. To keep its passengers informed of extra coaches well in advance, WR uploads the tentative plan of adding extra coaches one to three days in advance on its website www.wr.indianrailways.gov.in besides running scrolls on Hathway Cable Network’s popular ‘Utsav’ channel. It has not only convenienced the passengers who can plan their journey more easily but also brought more transparency in berth confirmation.
