JAIPUR: Long wait and frequent traffic snarls near Arjun Nagar are still giving tough time to commuters as the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) seems in no mood to throw open the newly constructed railway underpass for public.
It's been more than a month since the construction work was completed. However, the underpass has not yet been opened for public as the public representatives have not given time for inauguration.
"The urban development minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat and Malviya Nagar MLA Kalicharan Saraf are not willing to give time to inaugurate the project because

of their internal tussle," said a JDA official source.
Residents staying in nearby areas alleged that massive traffic jams are a common scene during peak hours. "Thousands of residents would have found relief, had the JDA opened the underpass on time. There are nearly 50 colonies developed between the Gopalpura Bypass and the Kartarpura and residents travel a number of times through the route every day. The JDA has constructed the underpass on public money and, therefore, the public should not suffer," said Pravesh Rawal, a resident.
The civic body has also dumped leftovers of construction material near the railway track which has increased chances of accidents. "Debris lie near the track which could easily derail passing trains. Also, JDA has not covered the nullah, which was opened for the construction work of underpass in the area. Residents are forced to live in unhygienic conditions," said another resident Sunil Sharma.
JDA has constructed Arjun Nagar railway underpass project after spending Rs 10.35 crore. The foundation of the project was laid in June 2013 by former UDH minister Shanti Dhariwal. The project was proposed to be completed in two years.
