Bhopal Shatabdi Express runs at 150km/hr in some stretches while Rajdhani does not. So it is fastest train in India.

Well guyz may b u wil be surprized with this but talks are on between indian railways and JApanese authorities to introduce first bullet train in India in a few years from now. There will be a special corridor designed for this train. And this is conformed that first route wil be between New Delhi and Amritsar with a speed of approx 418 KM/Hr. However its ticket will be as costly as Economy class of the plane from Delhi to Amritsar.

I don't think that this train is too fast. Fast train means train that runs at a commercial speed of 210 km/h like bullet train in Japan. I think that indian railways should start a train that has a commercial of speed of 210km/h like bullet train

Hey, the first replier this is for you. You are saying that impossible to indian conditions in near future. I think that you are wrong. You are insulting the indian railways. I think that people of your kind should be punished

210km is alright for japan whch has less population than ours no criss crossing etc. we can achieve even more than 210 which will take some time. we're the second bigges railway & the most busiest. the way we are managing indian rlys, nowhere else can be managed better. there are far less resources. considering we're having very low accident rate in comparing with the resources of foreign countries, railway engineers, signal staff etc are really doing a tremendous job which will never be appreciated. we know how to crib saying so many bad things but how much do we contribute to this? we board the train with waitlist numbers, no tickets & bribe the tte & then blame railways by saying ttes are corrupt. its very easy to point fingers but look at them staring you also.

The day is not far when India will have bullet trains, running@250km/hr.
I guess the person who started this thread does not have knowledge about the feasibility study that is happening in parts of India.
Be proud to be an Indian!!

to all the bloggers
Indian railways is the 2nd largest railways in the world and we have stations on the average of every 10km, we also have largest poor people in India who cant afford sleeper class also, fast train requires good tracks, AC coachs, Auto shutting doors like Delhi metro, etc and to run at 210km itz nt posible becaoz of our slow trains we need seprate tracks for that type of trains for which we need more land we already have huge fiscal deficit, iam not against the technology iam just saying itz requires lot of time to having fast trains in India....
and from the last couple of years we have developed rail facility thanks to Mr.Sridharan (Father Of Indain Railway)

I being an Indian think that Indian Politicians / Railway Minister never think of bullet train or innovative idea to implement for Indian Railways. Once I get a chance to travel from New Delhi to Kanpur in General Bogey in which I find Policeman collecting money from the poor passengers of general bogey which is a pity on the part of the management / upkeep of the passengeral environment in the Indian Train that too at New Delhi Railway Station what to talk of a remote junction / Station from where the train starts.
We should think of something new and innovative, and always there is a chance to have betterment apart from the implementation of enlargement of service and facility for the passengers of Indian citizens.
PITY AND DISTRESS BRINGS WHEN WE THINK OF SINGAPORE / INDONESIA WHAT TO TALK OF EUROPE COMPARISON.

For ppl complaining, the only train in Japan that runs faster than Shatabdi is the 'Shinkansen' bullet train. The rest of the trains average 120 to 150 kmph. Now, the bullet train has its own separate tracks (with its own electrification system) at most stretches, and is fenced off on both sides. Near big cities, either it has to slow down or it has a separate elevated track (like elevated metro) so that it can go faster.
If we can do that in India, i.e. create a separate railway lines, fence it off or build it as an elevated track, have its own electrification/power system -with no stops between say Delhi-Bhopal or Mumbai-Pune, we can have a bullet train. Many companies make rolling stock for bullet trains, and we could just adopt a 'standard gauge' for the bullet train tracks.
So, it is definitely possible, it is a question of cost, land acquisition, political will and public acceptance and most important" a cost/benefit analysis. Question is: is it justified - for that money, all the major rail corridors could be quadrupled and electrified.

Very well said about the resourses. Our bridges are about to collapse but we still keep on using them. The condition of trains is dispickable, but we are proud of it. The toilets are so filthy that once in, one get a big shiver, but we love them. On an average day, the stink of toilets is all over the compartment, but it is ok for national pride. Very Well

well written, singhji. Cost is the key. Given enough money, anything can be accomplished. Cost of the train+tracks in turn translates into very high ticket prices. The best thing about indian railways is that it remains one of the most affordable practical transportation system in the world.

compare apples with apples not with oranges....bullet train....huh...any idea how much does the ticket cost? any idea abt the prices of the tickets in TGV and other so called bullet proof trains??any idea how much it costs to lay tracks for bullet trains?? we are in india. affordibility is a big issue. bullet trains arent suitable for india at least even in the near future as the tcket costs will be so high, even more than the flight tickets. Pls try to appreciate that india is probably the only country where you can travel by train at such low fares. yes it takes time. but things are improving. the running times of a lot of trains have come down...
and FYI....we already have an engine that can do 200+ kmph....WAP5...alas we dont have the tracks...

Very true. I agree. Actually, the cost of laying down tracks for a "Shinkansen" Japanese bullet train tracks is about $20 billion per km !!!! I have tried imagining how much money that is, but I cannot!!! WOW. I don't wish to brag, but I have also travelled in German bullet-like ICE trains. The trains are OK, but even by German standards, those trains are very, very expensive. In Japan, I have heard, you can spend more than half your monthly salary, if you travel by bullet train frequently. Trains in UK are slow, but even so, they are very very expensive.
Indian trains are the most affordable (compared to average Indian monthly salary) in the world. They will get you from A to B. Even the poorest people in India can afford to go by trains.
Most of all, I am not in that much hurry to reach my destination. Life will go on. What's the hurry? Relax. Read a book. After you reach your destination, you will once again be caught up in your day-to-day life, running here and running there. No time for reading!!!
In Indian Railways train, just sit back, relax, read a book, talk to fellow passengers from all over India and some foreign tourists.
In conclusion, we really don't need a bullet train!!! Save the money, and make existing trains safer.

yes....pune-mum-ahmedabad....RITES is doing a feasibility study with one italian company and another forgot which country....it will be like pune to mumbai in 30 mins....but i guess it wont be implemented....coz the cost of building track is Rs 150 crores / km...which means ticket prices might end up being 4-5 times of air fares

Yes, correction to my previous post (12:47pm). It is not $20 billion but actually $20 million per km. Even so, a HUGE amount of money. Really, money wasted. Only the richest people will be able to afford it, the elevated tracks will be ugly, make a lot of noise.
But, really, what for? In Japan, it's OK, people are rushing here and rushing there. Really fast pace of life, but really, is such a fast pace of life better?
Once again, make the existing trains safer and spend the money to maintain cleanliness. That's good enough.
VJ - Delhi.

safety is good for passengers, but not good for people outside the train crossing tracks, because the train is very, very fast and people don't know this. This same site has a youtube video called "narrow escape" /train/videos/1516/12/664 that shows one man and woman almost got under the shatabdi train.

The video shows how a Man and a Woman are casually crossing the tracks unmindful of the approaching Shatabdi and are saved in nick of time .
A very Good Video for all those take the risk of crossing tracks in high traffic density routes

Awesome experience travelling in this so called "Pride of IR". Journey began with the complete search of the train by a sniffer dog. The Executive Class seats were more spacious than airplane seats. Had a wap5 hauling the train the day I traveled.
One of the most complete breakfast experience on a train. Took some time to reach MPS but the train did not relent once it hit MPS.
Even got the chance to open the doorway when we let Mathura and when the train was doing MPS. Wow - the headwind left me breathless (do not advise that anyone try it).

From your review, it looks like the Bhopal Shatabdi is a must-try experience. I have only been on Bangalore-Mysore Shatabdi - although this Shatabdi is faster than other trains on this route (like Brindavan exp), I was rather disappointed with the speed. I will try the Bhopal Shatabdi next time, when I go there.
