Trip report for Circar exp: (Disclaimer: Very very long post!!) 10th March: I walked into PF 8 towards the loco – BZA WAP4. I assured myself of some decent performance that day and reached my coach B2. There were a total of 110 vacant SL berths and 64 3AC vacant berths for Circar that day – a bit of a surprise. Train started bang on time at 17.20 and was at Korukkupet outer at 17.55. Finally we crawled into KOK at 18.05. After overtaking an EMU at Tiruvottiyur, WAP4 immediately broke its shackles... more...
and we reached GPD at 18.45, SPE at 19.15 and NYP at 19.40. We were at GDR outer at 20.03 and pulled into GDR PF2 at 20.18. VSKP-Kollam exp was on PF3. Train started at 20.27 sharp while announcement for 12733 Narayanadri at PF1 was given. Circar reached NLR at 20.55 by which I went to sleep. I woke up at sharp midnight and we were leaving CLX. I went back to sleep and woke at 02.45 when we pulled into BZA. We reached KKLR at 04.40 and waited for VSKP-LTT exp for about 15 minutes. Circar then stopped at Pallevada and we saw VSKP-MTM passenger rush past. At AKVD, we waited for 5 minutes for Puri-TPTY, finally reaching BVRT at 05.40. I couldn’t catch sight of the diesel power after BZA but I felt it was a good performance overall. 12th March: I reached TNKU at 16.45 and Circar arrived at 16.58 with BZA-Twin WDP 1 (15058+15060). Twin Alcos accelerated after Attili and we reached BVRT at 17.35! We reached AKVD and KKLR on time and GDV at 19.03, departing at 19.25. BZA PF4 was seen at 20.30! I walked to see the new loco and was delighted to see LGD WAP7 30276 attaching itself to 17644. I asked the ALP till where he would be in charge and he said ‘Bitragunta’. Train departed at 21.00. I dozed off immediately. CLX was seen at 00.08 and Vetapalem PF1 was in sight at 00.16. A pleasant surprise to see BZA WAP4-hauled 17643 arriving at PF2 (does Egmore station convert LGD WAP7 to BZA WAP4?? :P) At 00.23, 12604 HYB-MAS exp hauled by a WAP4 blasted past us at MPS. We departed at 00.30 after which I went back to sleep. At 05.00, we were breezing past Ponneri – LGD’s white beast was asserting its supremacy. At 05.30, we were reaching Washermanpet and pulled into Chennai Beach at 05.45. LP’s were forced to stop the breezy ride due to the red signal. At 06.10, the reason was known – RPM WAP7+AJJ WAP1 reached Chennai Beach – we were waiting for these locos to come from Egmore due to the single line from MS-MSB! LGD WAP7 immediately honked and started without much ado and we glided through the curves into Chennai Egmore at 06.25. Terrific performance, though the slack played a part. Still, do not take anything away from LGD’s white stallion. Observations: 1. NDD-BZA Doubling & electrification updates: (i) No sign of any projects from TNKU-BVRT. (ii) BVRT-AKVD: Bridge construction only taking place across Venkaiah canal, otherwise, not much earthwork done. (iii) AKVD-KKLR: This stretch is super-awesome! Levelled earthwork throughout with some mounds of ballast already placed. Electric masts coming up near Pallevada. Looks like this stretch will be the first doubled stretch, probably in another 8 months. Just ballast throughout the stretch to be placed with sleepers & rails left! (iv) KKLR-Moturu: Earthwork going on in around 80% of the stretch. Some stretches have been levelled with ballast to be placed. A few station platforms must be rebuilt to accommodate the second line and branch lines. (v) Moturu-GDV: No signs of progress. (vi) GDV-Uppalluru: Earthwork on some stretches done. Couldn’t see much due to the darkness which had already set in. (vii) From Uppalluru-BZA, it is seen that many slum huts have sprung up close to the existing single line. Hence doubling work will definitely take time. Though bridge construction on Budameru canal is going on well. Overall doubling will entail clearing overgrowth of shrubs and consolidation/dumping earth of many tiny water bodies near the tracks. Maybe KKLR-AKVD does not have so many of those and that’s why work is progressing briskly in that stretch. 2. Korukkupet-MSB third line: Levelled earthwork after Korukkupet till Royapuram done. No earthwork done from RPM station. Suggestions: 1. MAS-GPD must be quadrupled immediately – seeing that MAS-Tiruvalangadu is quadrupled now and MS-TBM is already done. If not GPD, atleast quadrupling upto Minjur on priority. Tripling is done upto Attipattu but I feel the rest must be done very quickly so that EMU commuters are not late. 2. NDD-RJY-SLO must be tripled first in the BZA-EE-RJY-DVD tripling project as many trains from BVRT and COA converge in this stretch of heavy traffic. 3. Atleast if BZA-BVRT doubling is done, or atleast if 60% of this stretch is doubled & commissioned, slack can be cut. Had KKLR-AKVD been commissioned, we would have reached BVRT at 05.25 itself seeing that we waited at KKLR and Pallevada for VSKP-LTT & VSKP-MTM respectively. 4. Seeing that LGD’s white stallion is unmatched, I think Circar’s timings can change to (can be further speeded up once BZA-BVRT doubling is done): 06.30 MS 19.00 03.33/03.35 GDR 21.48/21.50 22.50 TEL 02.10 21.50/21.52 NGNT 02.38/02.40 20.50/21.10 BZA 04.00/04.20 18.10 BVRT 06.40 16.25/16.30 RJY 08.40/08.45 15.00 COA 10.30 Timings are such that overtakes are minimized and passengers can spend less time travelling.

Please add PF 4,5 to the operating platforms for this train at Chennai Egmore (MS) . 17644 is usually arriving on PF 4 or 5 and 17643 is departing from PF 4. Observed this a few times over the last 3 weeks.
