TRIP REPORT.... TRIP DT. (23/06/2014)
/diary/trip/51655
After a tiring day in Mumbai it was time for a trip to my native place through Konkan Railway.. Approximately at 7:30pm charting was done for this train.. Seeing that I was alloted the railfans seat Side Lower/ Side Upper Berth, I felt I was the luckiest person on this planet..
After

having our dinner, I and my grandfather proceeded towards Thane station.. As PF#7 is always crowded, we decided to sit on PF#10 which is vacant as compared to PF#7.
Then there was an announcement stating '' W.e.f. 23/06/2014 KR Down 10111 Konkan Kanya Express will leave from PF#5 instead of PF#7.'' After hearing this I was overjoyed as Karjat bound fast local would not be able to overtake Konkan Kanya Exp from PF#5..
At 23:35 we proceeded to PF #5, the train arrived at 23:48 approximately, expecting an EMD WDP4 to be seen while the train was entering the station, to my disappointment the train was hauled #offlink TWIN KJM WDM3A both were rebuilted ones,we entered d coach and occupied our seats.. Then in search of bedding for me and I grandfather , I deboarded the train and went to Pantry Car which was a coach behind us, By the time I could return to my seat the train was ready for departure.. We left Thane at exactly 23:55..
After leaving from Thane the twin alcos accelerated and by the time we could reach Parsik Tunnel the train touched 90+ km/hr, but decelerated as we were approaching Diva Jn.
Crossed Diva at moderate speed, just as we were to cross Dativali, I saw late running 12052 Jan Shatabdi Exp hauled by #offlink WDG4 crossing us.. Then crossing Nilaje the alcos went blizzard, accelerating over 100 km/hr.. Now we zoomed passed Taloje, after crossing Kalamboli the train slowed down on its approach to Panvel Stn.
By The time we could reach Panvel station it was 00:34.. This time another surprise, our train arrived on PF #6 instead of PF #7..
The alcos did a very good job covering 33 kms in 39 minutes at an average of 50.76 km/hr even though there were frequent accelerations n decelerations.
To Be Continued..

Re# 1148301-4
After a two minute halt we departed Chiplun, after Chiplun slowly picked up speed, now it was time to blast through d Tunnels of Konkan.. Crossed Kamathe 9 mins after Chiplun, after that blasted at constant 85-90 km/hr till Aravali Rd. After Aravali Rd. just slowed down a touch as there were vulnerable regions, the patrolmen were on alert at night with white torches. At 05:07 am we arrived at Sangmeshwar Rd., after a 2min halt departed towards Ratnagiri.. Now was the time to pass to the terrain of KR, the mountainous regions. Here too, there were a lots of speed restrictions and lots of patrolmen who were standing inside n outside the tunnel.. While passing through this hilly region I saw 3-4 waterfalls but sadly couldnt click pics as sun had not risen yet .. Crossed Ukshi at a good speed, the best part of the journey was crossing 4...

continuous tunnels after Ukshi at a good speed about 85+km/hr but there were speed restrictions in between though.. Just enjoyed d loud noise the train made inside d tunnel.. Also when one tunnel ended we were inside another tunnel.. After blasting through Karbude Tunnel, the one time longest tunnel in India, currently d second. We slowed down and were looped at Bhoke, it was 05:32am that time, we were stopped for crossing Kerala SK going towards Chandigarh.. After 4-5 mins I could see WDP3A approaching Bhoke with Kerala SK at a steady speed, approx 60 km/hr.. Just a minute after d crossing we started from Bhoke , it was 05:40am.. Now was a time to enjoy a cup of tea, sadly this time there was no monsoon to give me company.. While approaching Ratnagiri I could see the rake of Ratnagiri - Dadar Pass. on the pit line, it was cleaned n washed nicely and was ready to be brought on PF at Ratnagiri, Kalyan WDM3A was already attached to it.. By the time we would stop at Ratnagiri it was 05:51 am...
Chiplun to Ratnagiri covered in 1h 21min, with 8 min unscheduled halt Bhoke
Distance: 75.4 kms
Average Speed: 55.85 km/hr (including halt at Bhoke)

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
