Kolhapur region(which include kolhapur satara sangli district also part of solapur district west of pandharpur ) is being constantly neglected. CR is no doubt the busiest zone of railways. But it can not provide sufficient attention to this region. For this zone handling Mumbai suburban itself is a big task it handles all needs of mumbai long distance trains also. Till nearly a decade ago Pune was also being neglected by CR for obious reasons(handling Mumbai itself is very big task) but as Pune has evolved in to a another metro in the state they can no more neglect it. Pune is also getting good share in form of new projects(e.g. pune nashik new line) new trains in railway budget. But Kolhapur region is nowhere in CR agenda. Unfornunately we dont have our own divisional headquarter(unlike solapur, bhusawal, nagpur) We dont have any mean by which we can put forward our demands. It...

is very very frustating forus who expect a better connectivity. New lines are out of question even if we get new train with great efforts they get diverted. Why CR is running this train(kop-hyd) is totally beyond logic. Obiously when mamata banargee first announced this train it was going to run via pvr-sur but as we dont have divional headquarters and hubli has it this train was diverted via hubli. We got train to varanasi(deekshaboomi) but it got diverted via nanded. These trains totally useless for us occupy our platforms during prime time. Railway give reason repeatedly that no new train can be started from kolhapur miraj because of unavaibality of plateform and time slot at the same time run these trains on our plateforms? Kolhapur region is third densly populated area after mumbai and pune in maharashtra and we get this type of treatment!! This is very very serious matter. But what to be done??? Friends any thoughts?

Agreed... Kolhapur is an imp. city of MH and first it should have dedicated trains to all major places of Maharashtra. Also, a new line should be built at the earliest to connect Kolhapur to Konkan to improve trade and tourism

My opinion.
1 Mumbai Sub urban should be a separate zone.
2 Miraj/Kolhapur should be a new division or Pune should be a new zone.

Nothing is going to happen. I have written many mails to MLA,MP, Railway ministry, no one is interested to even reply. So forget about this train. Today i have mailed to new Rail Minister, lets see if something happens. You guys also can drop mails or letters. Powerful leader from your region can get train, but they are least interested.

We have to learn from Marathwada people. Their success rate is very high in terms of getting their demands fulfilled. They have a established a system. Experts among st them every time suggest new trains new projects after detailed study well in advance. Which are generally accepted because there is no haphazardness.
Western Maharashtra should also have similar system which should include experts from railways, economical experts, MLAs, MPs, IAS officers.

Once upon a time Western Maharashtra was a developed part of Maharashtra. Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Ichalkaranji were counted amongst developed cities in India leave apart the state. That time economy was agriculture driven.....and our lands were(infact still are) goldmines. After Mumbai Per capita Income of Kolhapur disrict was highest...we proudly used to say.... weastern Maharashtra is richest part of India. This part of country produced many great persons in every field. Infact if you check 1)first film studio was in kolhapur.2) indias first circus was started in kolhapur 3) indias first olympic medal winner was from kolhapur 4) indias first oscar award winner was from kolhapur.............. and so on. It was said that every good new thing in India was used to originate in western Maharashtra. People here used to be ahead of other people in terms of progressive thinkiing.
...
But time has changed..... above mentioned cities are no longer counted in developed cities. Per capita income of this part is now far behind of other parts even in maharashra 1)nagpur 2) aurangabad 3) nashik 4) raigad these districts are gone far ahead of kolhapur. We are no longer a progressive part......... no new projects.......education system is backward(see IIT jee, Medical entrance results).....medical system is backward( tell me one big superspeciality hospital hospital in this region?)....... we are no longer leaders in art or sports!!!!
following are the reasons
1) Population has become stagnant- because once it was a rich area there was no significant mobilization...people love there villages there cities and dont go beyond there comfort zone- there was no exchange of ideas...they are lagging in higher education.....they oppose every new project e.g. road developement, new railway lines, expansion of boundaries of kolhapur city etc.
2) means of communications have not developed. a) roads apart from NH 4 which is also not a world class road by todays definition there are no good highways b) apart from the railway lines which british raj gave us there are no new railways..our railway stations suck!!! c) no functional airport- every minister want his x,yz city should have a airport but no functional airport in the area thats the tragedy.
3) no industrial development now economy is industry driven.. in this stage there are no big industries in western maharashtra in fact small industries in Kolhapur and sangli are going to shift to belgaum in near future.
4) lack of political will......politicians are engaged in personal quarrels no visionary politician for the region.
Friends what are your thoughts

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
