Bio-Toilets in Railway Coaches: No Odour - No Solid waste spilling - Only odourless liquid drains out of coach

initiative of IR is that the Railways is planning for giving you a "clean experience" with bio-toilets.
Bio-toilets are arguably the most complicated part of the Railways' cleanliness drive.
A stainless steel bio-toilet set - with six chambers and costing Rs 90,000 - is to be fitted beneath each of the four rest rooms in a train coach. These toilets have a colony of anaerobic bacteria that do not require oxygen to breathe.
Aerobic bacteria, which survive on oxygen and have been used in some foreign trains, have proved unsuccessful in the Indian system.
The friendly-bacteria technology, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation for use in such toilets, breaks down faeces (human waste) into methane and portable odourless liquid. This takes care of not only cleanliness but corrosion caused on railway tracks due to human droppings.
Though the Railways is installing bio-toilets on both conventional train coaches and the latest LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch - indigenised German technology) ones, it is only by 2016-17 that all NEW coaches will have such toilets. As of earlier this month, 11,800 such toilets had been installed in railway coaches.

i happened to travel on 12969 from katpadi to jaipur on18.7.2014. the European bio tiolets in ac coaches are overflowing on to floor. the main reason may be that there is only European bio tiolets in ac coach and mostly all will be useing the same and not ising indian bio tiolets. railways has to lookin to this to increase the number of European bio tiolets. where as in normal toilets overflowing floor never happens.

Seen one video of 'How Bio-Toilet works?' in NDLS rly station ... also a 'MODEL' present there...
Rlys promoting it as the technology is indigenous (of DRDO) using Anaerobic bacteria compared with

Aerobic bacteria of foreign toilets...
Seems to be too good as: 1] No Odour/ Bad Smell ; 2] No Human Waste spilled to Tracks/ Rly stations as it is broken by Bacteria to Odourless Liquid; 3] Clean tracks/ Rly stations ...
Safety measures required before using the toilets:
1] Dont use metal/ put metal items in toilet bin
2] Dont put paper/ other wastes as they jam in the Bio-Toilets below Toilet Bowl or make Bacteria not work ...
rlys should
1] put enough waste baskets in toilets for putting waste metals, papers, etc...
2] usage technique should be educated before installing it in coaches by posters/ verbal/ demos in Rly Stations in all languages including local languages ...

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
