How to book tickets using the Foreign Tourist (FT) quota?
Hello RailInfo forum members,
Last time I was in India, I was able to book tickets using my US passport under the FT quota. I would like to do the same, this time from here in the US, before landing in India. Under the general quota, berth is unavailable, but under FT quota, 4 berths are available; I just need 1.

colleague in India took a copy of my US passport to the booking window, to make a booking for me, but was refused by reservation clerk. I have an IRCTC account, but it only lets me choose "general", "tatkal", not FT quota. Is there some way to book a ticket under FT quota?
Thanks.

I am a US citizen myself. The only way you can avail the FTQ is to go to the International Tourist Bureau (ITB) at the New Delhi Railway station or any place where ITB is present. You need to go there personally with your passport and Indian VISA/PIO card. Also, your date of entry to India should be within 6 months. ANy foreigner who is living in India for more than 6 months at a stretch is not treated by the Indian Railways as a "Foreign Tourist". I could not avail this quota during my 18 years of stay in India for studies. But now that I moved to the US, I could avail the FTQ and the Indrail Pass during my recent India visit in 2010. Hope this helps! Cheers...

Unfortunately no credit cards or travelers checks. Only cash in US/Aus/Canadian Dollars, Euros and GBP. They can accept Indian Rupees, provided you show them the encashment certificate from the bank.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
