It's easier said than done. The new govt seems to be continuing from where UPA left off. More halts popping up, no removals. It's obvious that the useless stoppages are costing IR Rs >300 crores (annual loss). However, nothing has been done regarding stoppages so far :/
Regarding superfasts : IR's criteria for designating a train "a superfast" must change. A superfast train should have an average speed of at least 65 km/h (should vary with time and technology). Otherwise, it's mere looting of aam aadmis.
Regarding stoppages : IR should remove...
more... useless stoppages in a phased manner. IR should first remove the unnecessary stoppages of premier trains (Rajdhani, Shatabdi, etc). Then, the new criteria for SF trains should be applied and trains should be classified accordingly. After that, IR should target the superfasts. Mail/Express trains later. IR must scrap the concept of passenger trains and introduce EMU-like train sets to serve smaller stations as alternatives. Stoppage addition should be done on the basis of feasibility only.
