Satpura Railways.
After 2 years of planning finally I got the chance to travel on satpura railways. I needed one partner with me and I got my 11 year old son Aman ready for this magnificent narrow gauge journey.
After 2/3 plans I shortlisted to travel via Nagpur chhindwara Nainpur jabalpur and to Ahmednagar via Itarsi, but Itarsi fire forced me to change the plan as Jabalpur Nainpur Balaghat Gondia Nagpur Ahmednagar.

All the booking was done and set for the much awaited journey. At last moment my 9 year old daughter also joined us, initially she was reluctant for the journey.
3 rd july
my father also wanted to go Varanasi his hometown but was not getting direct ticket so he decided to go via Durg. He joined us on same train with lower berth quota confirm ticket.
on journey day we all were ready to board 12850 Pune bilaspur express and left home at 2035 hours since station is 3 minutes drive from my home at Ahmednagar.
At station Jhelum arrived with delay, by the time I brought a General class ticket for my daughter who was last minute inclusion to my dream journey. 12850 arrived with delay of 20 minutes, we all boarded our coach S8 which was newly made with charging point in each bay.
I slept around 2200 hours, so night was good and uneventful. I woke up in the morning when train arrived at Bandera, here I got fresh. Here 12101 was overtaken by 12850. Again I decided to sleep. when I woke my train was entering Ajni. Here we had 2 minutes halt. Train reached Nagpur platform 2 10 minutes ahead of schedule. we three got down, my dad continued his journey to Durg and onward to Varanasi by Sarnath express.
Again I had confirm ticket in 58839 for me and my son, I went to uts window for my daughter ticket and ask clerk for a ticket to Nainpur but she gave me ticket to Raipur, which I cancel loosing 15 rs as charges and told her I want ticket to Nainpur on NG train. This time she got it right. The child ticket for 290 kilometres cost me just 30 rs, cheapest ever.

58839 NGP CWA NIR.
After light snacks we three entered NG platform of Nagpur, NG belongs to SECR, while Nagpur belongs to CR. In mean time we did good railfanning at Nagpur. Around 1130 hours Nagbhir Nagpur NG passenger arrived on seeing the coach conditions my children were surprised. when they climbed the coach, it shook a lot. All the coaches were in bad condition.

were good, especially the SL cum 2S coach. We thought this will run to Jabalpur.
After sometime a fresh rake arrived on platform as 58839 All the coaches were washed from inside. Locomotive in charge was ZDM 4A. we placed our baggages on SL 7&8. There were two more RF groups from Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
Train departed bang on time and arrived Itwari and halted for 15 minutes. train maintained a good speed around 50 kph, whenever train climbed a gradient drastic change of speed was observed.
Our first schedule stop was Khapri kheda a small village between two power plants, here we had crossing with 58840 jbp ngp passenger. train departed after a halt of 15 minutes. Now we were entering remote areas, on the way I saw ropeway trolley system use for transport of ash/ coal to and from power plants.
My both children started door plating by sitting at the gate. They sat there for nearly one hour at the gate. Train reached Ramakona after crossing a mighty bridge over kanhan river, new broad gauge constructed can be seen parallel to NG bridge.
After Ramakona train started to climb the mountain. On this route passenger halts are marked 500 metres before with white boards indicate PH for convenience of loco pilots. Our next crossing was at Bhimalgondi a station in mountain. New broad gauge construction can be seen all the way.
Tried to see the kukkra khapa waterfall from train but cannot be seen, saw an old NG tanker at this station.
At Umranala we had another crossing with cwa ngp passenger which was running with twin ZDMs one was dead. Train reached CWA rt. here we had our dinner. From here loco incharge was ZDM 3. Now we decided to knock down on our berths. Being a single reserved coach in 10 coaches rake, the rush was moderate.
TTE was continuously in the coach. This NG route is not so stable, the upper berth gives a good see saw feeling and nice sleep. Though I wanted to go upto JBP my ticket in this train was upto Nainpur, onwards journey to Jabalpur was booked in morning train 58865 BTC JBP passenger.
Train reached NIR at 0200 hours in the morning, we got down here and got a retiring room with three beds at 150 rs charge, we all me, my son and my daughter had good sleep in dormitory retiring room.
