Railfanning From Stratosphere - Double Decker Container Rake in Las Vegas
---------------------------------------------------
Doing a bit of a rail fanning from the stratosphere is fun. When its a Double Decker Container rake, its even more fun.
Standing on the 108th floor of the tallest building in Las Vegas, The Stratosphere Tower itself is a thrilling experience. And when you get to do the

Sir.. I am sure you understood what my wife told me when I was shooting this.. for all those who didnt understand telugu.., She was asking me, "Are you not coming ?", while I stood and completed this video... Every minute was precious for us as we had a 6 pm flight to catch from Los Angeles Airport to Chicago, and we were on the Stratosphere tower, las vegas at 11:30 am. After getting down, we had to have lunch, drive another 300 miles, drop my friends off enroute, return the rental car, take airport shuttle and check in..Yet.. all this couldn't stop me in spending extra 5 minutes to capture this marvelous scene..

There are no manned crossings in US. They are all unmanned automatic gates. You may be not able to notice the gates in the video since its shot from 1000 ft. above the train track.

I never visited US before 2010, but some how I had this idea of incorporating all level crossings in India with automatic gates. Had developed a small idea of automatic switches underneath the tracks. Helped my students build it and present it in a science exhibition in 2003. They got district level second prize for that. But I left teaching after that year.
The same technology now what we are using for automatic signalling can easily be developed to make all level crossings into automatic gated unmanned crossings with much lesser money than what we are spending in converting the LCs into underpasses. But it won't suite our Indian public as we get a lot of folks who are in

a hurry and want to challenge trains as well for their own purpose on any day. So underpasses are a better idea.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
