Yes, but it should have your photograph and should be in its validity period when you are traveling

but while booking ticket in talkal qouta from mumbai they ignored it as they were saying that computer is not reading the no.

Are those guys using some scanner to read nos.? Can you read number manually? Book Online or ask an agent to book if you can read.

I think they are fooling you around. Online system accepts (only spaces are not allowed with some special characters) and in automated system in such cases there is always a way through manual intervention. I would like to draw attention of other members if they can throw some light over the issue.
