Sugar is often hidden under names like high fructose, dextrose, sucrose and maltose corn syrup.

10 natural alternatives to sugar
Applesauce
Add it to baked goods instead of refined sugar. It saves calories. You will manage to avoid 670 calories with each replacement cup. Use applesauce instead of butter or margarine as well.

Ripe bananas
Ripe bananas are always sweeter than green ones. So, next time you make yourself a milkshake, feel free to add ripe bananas instead of ice cream. It is a dairy-free and healthy sugar alternative.

Dates
Natural candy is low in calories and high in fiber, potassium, manganese, magnesium and copper. Dates are also rich in calcium, iron, vitamin K, vitamin B6, and folate.

Arhat
It grows in China and Thailand. They are round, green and melon-like fruits with no calories. Monkhat is 200-500 times sweeter than sugar, and people use it as a non-glycemic sweetener. It has long been used as a remedy for coughs, colds, fevers and indigestion.

Molasses
It is a dark syrup with incredible thickness. Molasses is produced by processing sugar cane. It's packed with vitamins and minerals, so it's definitely a better alternative than sugar. It may not be the sweetest of all substitutes, but your taste buds will get used to it.

Maple syrup
It is harvested from the sap of maple trees. Maple syrup contains 54 powerful compounds and has always been used. Low in saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium.

Honey
It is the most popular of all sweeteners. Honey contains fructose, calories, and antioxidants. If you are having mixed emotions at the moment, consider that it also contains zinc, selenium and vitamins.

Coconut sugar
It is made from the sap of coconut plants. Coconut sugar is rich in iron, zinc, calcium, potassium, short-chain fatty acids, polyphenols, and antioxidants. Insulin is a fiber that slows down the absorption of glucose and acts as a probiotic.

Stevia
It is absolutely popular and people add it to dairy products, pastries, drinks, snacks, etc. Stevia is harvested from the plant and people have been using it for centuries, especially in South America (for healing purposes).

Erythrol
It is found in lemons and pears. Erythritol is a type of sugar alcohol that is considered an ideal sugar substitute, especially for diabetics and obese people. It contains only 6% of the calories of sugar and 75% of its sweetness.
