Munnar would be an interesting option. The route can go as follows.
From Bodinayakanur in Tamilnadu ( branch line from Madurai), via Munthal-Kottagudi ( along the Kottagudi river ) to 'Top station' at the Kerala-TamilNadu border and further on along the Mattupetty dam reservoir to Munnar. The route can be a meter gauge like the NMR route.
This will be a special route too. About a century ago, the Kundala valley railway used to connect Munnar to Top station with a narrow gauge railway.

This was used for transporting Tea to the rest of the country. The tea would be transported from Munnar to Top station by railway. From there, a ropeway and cable car used to take the tea down the hills and by road to Bodinayakanur. The line was washed out in a flood in 1924 and never reconstructed.
The route can be re-started in pretty much with the same alignment as earlier and it will be really good to see a historic route being restarted.

SBC station is not touched upon
very low avg speed for a premium train only 49kmph!! Mainly due to low speed route (Faster Trunk lines avoided to maximum possible extent) and lack of priority to train. On the given route avg speed could be 55+ kmph is possible for a premium train.

SBC-JDP/Bikaner could have been a better option on the chosen route with SBC dep delayed by couple of hours and JDP arr in morning.
SBC-SC-NGP-BPL-KOTA-JP-JDP HS could have managed 65kmph speed and much higher patronage.

This route (Trichy-Sriganganagar) deserves SF train rather than HS.

I cant vote, I am confused. The Humsafar train should have been run between Bikaner and Bengaluru, which would have been better. As someone else too said, SGNR-TPJ better deserves weekly SF train. Secondly, the speed of train could have been more than 60 kmph. WR can have 80 kmph avg speed.

The Railway Ministry has allotted Rs 199.8 crore to modernise the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai as part of a Rs 327-crore project to get the coach-building unit to completely switch over from conventional coaches to safer Linke-Hoffman-Busch (LHB) coaches in the next few years.
The money was allotted in the Union Budget announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on February 1. The Ministry has spent Rs 75 crore in the past two years on the project, and the bigger allocation is seen as a result of the flak the Railways got after the Indore-Patna Express derailed near Kanpur, killing over 150 people.

Minister Suresh Prabhu, at the time, had tweeted that the Railways would be speeding up the production of LHB coaches, which are designed with better safety features like anti-climbing and anti-telescoping (a railway term for coaches ploughing into each other during a derailment or accident). Conventional ICF-type coaches were getting mangled extensively during mishaps as was evident in the Kanpur derailment.
Currently, the bulk of the LHB coaches are made at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, Punjab. A new coach-building facility has also started at Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the coach production programme of the Railways issued by the mechanical department of the Railway Board, a copy of which is available with DNA, the Railways will make 1,883 conventional coaches and 1614 LHB coaches for the financial year ending March 31, 2017.
The break-up of the 1,883 conventional coaches is such that the Integral Coach Factory Chennai will make 1,118 coaches, while the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala will the remaining 765 coaches.

Earlier the livery was red and we got bored of it. When blue livery was introduced it looked attractive, but that too has of late becoming boring. Infact it would be nice to change livery in a decade or two.

Southern Railway has announced that the Tiruchi – Chennai Egmore – Tiruchi Rockfort Expresses would be converted into superfast expresses from June.

The trains would stop at Mambalam, Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Tindivanam, Villupuram, Vriddhachalam, Pennadam, Ariyalur, Kallakudi Palanganatham, Lalgudi, Srirangam, Tiruchi Town and Ponmalai, a Southern Railway press release said.
Officials said the running time of these trains consequent to its conversion as superfast would be reduced by half-an-hour.
New coaches
Meanwhile, another release said LHB (Linke-Hofmann-Busch) coaches had been allotted for the Chennai Egmore – Tiruchi – Chennai Egmore Cholan Express trains.
Consequently, the Chennai Egmore – Tiruchi Cholan Express would be converted into LHB stock from February 16 and the Tiruchi – Chennai Egmore Cholan express would be converted into LHB stock from February 17.
As a result, the composition of the trains would be revised. It would have one AC first class, three AC 2-tier, four AC three-tier, 10 sleeper class and two general second class coaches.
As per the revised timing with effect from February 16, the Chennai Egmore – Tiruchi Cholan express will leave Chennai Egmore at 8.30 a.m. and reach Tiruchi at 4.15 p.m.
