On my way to Bhuj. Taking the AC super fast on this route for the first time - a 13.5 hours journey. The more traditional daily trains, Kutch Express and Sayaji Nagari Express, take about 16 hours each since the past two decades atleast.
Departed Bhuj on time from platform 1.
Kutch Express being readied as we leave.
Excited to watch the Little Rann of Kutch in broad daylight between Samkhiyali and Viramgam. I've travelled by Kutch and Sayaji Express in both directions numerous times, but all four routes pass the Rann in the night.
Passing Adipur extremely slowly to allow friends of the train staff to board?
Arrived at Gandhidham right on the clock. And while the loco reverses itself in the next 25 minutes, I'll go grab a bottle of Pepsi for the journey.
Loco attached at 4:12pm. That's 12 minutes! Got off to view the entire attachment process; too bad I can't figure out how to attach pictures thru the mobile web interface on iPhone 4S. Any help?
Edit: Attached the pic of the loco VTA/WDM-3A/18863 from my PC on 12th June.
Passing Bhachau. Sad to see it not being an official halt yet. The station is a major entry exit point for people of the Vagad samaj; next to Samkhiali ofcourse.
Samkhiali. Right on time. Eager to have my first look at the Little Rann; although the tracks pass through a very small area of it. Maybe 5 to 10 km.
PS: My GPS is suggesting I was at Morbi; thus the delay on posting. :P
Entered a patch of single track about 5 minutes back. Don't know how long this is; maybe until Malia Miyana? Also about to enter the Little Rann, so expecting a network blackout.
Passing thru Maliya Miyana at snails pace. Completely deserted station, not a soul to be seen - human or animal. Wait, we've stopped.
While we wait at Maliya Miyana, here's my experience of the Little Rann. A true desert. The single track through the desert passes over a creek. Thus, the entire area was commercialized with salt pans. But definitely no tree in sight and I even spotted a couple of animal carcasses.
Still at Maliya Miyana. Probably waiting for 59426 Palanpur Bhuj passenger to cross which is 15 minutes late. Don't forget, I'm on a single track area here!
So with nothing else to do, and good 3G coverage, I'm researching the station I'm currently on. And what better place to research than IRI? And guess what I discovered? Major express trains stop at this station, but not a single passenger train including the 59426 I'm waiting for to pass! Go figure!
Correction: 79450 Maliya Miyana Morbi DEMU is the only passenger stopping here.
Nikunjji, true, it doesn't halt. But it needs to cross. Also, I don't know why a passenger won't halt here, but Expresses do. The village is utterly deserted.
My bad Nikunjji, I misread you. And researched poorly too. 59426 is indeed not travelling this route. And now I'm wondering why am I waiting here.
Great. With a completely uneventful halt - no trains crossing or overtaking - we have now left Maliya Miyana.
Saw about a couple of dozen labourers with tools standing by the track I'm passing on. Maybe they were repairing something. We are still moving ahead slowly, as if with caution.
Slowing down further. Seeing a good patch for the second track laid. And we've stopped at the very next station from MALB. From Superfast to Passenger train. :( Cant post due to bad 3G coverage. We waited for a goods train to cross us. And have now picked up good speed.
Good speed. Hopefully reach ADI on time. My dinner depends on it!
Full speed run and slowed down again while passing Halvad.
Stopped at Ghanshyamgadh - station not on IRI list. Between Chuli and Dhrangadhra. Delay well under 40 minutes now. But this halt may change that.
Moving after allowing a train, not sure if goods or passenger, to cross. Back to 50 minutes delay? Confirmation at Dhrangadhra.
Back to square one. Halted again!
Passing Dhrangadhra slowly. I peg the delay at 63 minutes. And we also halt here. Great. :/ Delay that delay that. Inspired from 'Belay that belay that' by Captain Jack Sparrow.
Left Dhrangadhra. Currently back to running at full speed. No 3G, only 2G here. Thus, the delay and non-accurate GPS positioning.
Passed Viramgam. 43 minutes late. Passingly slowly though. End of single track too. So, hopefully we go full speed from here.
Thank you again Deependraji.
Haan, delay cover ho toh jayega. Lekin ab dinner ka plan skip hokar light snacks ki aur chal rahein hain. :)
Old Skool Speed Calculation:
Distance between Chharodi and Gora Ghuma (as per IRI): 17 km
Time taken (as per me and GPS approval by IRI again): 9 mins. Assuming error of 30 seconds on either end: Max time taken = 10 mins.
Speed = Distance / Time = 17km/10mins = 17*6km/10*6mins = 102kmph.
Assuming...
more... 9 mins, speed = 113kmph. :)
Bahut jaldi bola. Now halted at Ambli Road. :/ Speed = 0kmph.
And now we halt at Sabarmati Jn. Just before crossing the river itself.
Avg. speed between Ambli Rd. and Sabarmati Jn. = 35.7kmph.
Arrived. Leaving to get some light snacks while the loco changes. Delay of about 43 minutes. Official halt here for 20 minutes might be brought down.
Departed. 59 minutes late. And I'm off to sleep as well.
Woke to detrain at Bandra, but the train is late. Back to sleep.
TRIP HAS ENDED.
Overslept. :P Dont know when Bandra arrived exactly. Maybe 10 minutes back.
It arrived about 43 minutes late at ADI. Halted for about 35 minutes, bringing the overall delay at time of departure at ADI to 59 minutes.
Do not know the exact time for BDTS, but definitely reached on or after 5:40 am. So delay at BDTS atleast 45 minutes (Not 40 minutes that NTES suggests)
Train on Pf. 2 instead of Pf. 3 as the main page suggests. But I guess the train doesn't have a fixed platform.
Sorry, won't be posting further. This 2AC coach doesn't have a charging point and I don't have a power bank; need to conserve battery for my destination.
Just left Vadodara. Reached 2 minutes before time. Light rains on and off all the way from Valsad.
Stopped right before Anand Jn. below State Highway 83. Looks about 9 minutes late and counting.
Reached Anand on Pf. 3. 14 minutes late.
13 minutes late. No rains at Nadiad; tracks are dry.
Picked up speed. Delayed by not much, 3 minutes. Deserted platform. A wee bit windy.
After halting for about 15 minutes right after departing Maninagar, we've now arrived at ADI 14 minutes late. Time for loco change and me to sleep.
Departed. 20 minutes late.
Good morning folks. Reached Anjar about 45 minutes late.
Passed Kukma. Delay down to 16 minutes.
Passed Madhapar. 13 minutes delay.
Arrived. Not bad for the last leg. Final delay down to 6 minutes. Wondering if NTES will say on time.
TRIP HAS ENDED.
And after an hour's drive, I finally reach my destination. As suspected, NTES says train arrived on time.
I intended to travel to Bhuj and got my ticket extended from TTE.
I was waiting for tatkal tickets to open, but saw one ticket available until Bhachau in the pool quota, so went ahead with the booking with my second ticket as PQWL 1. I also tried Surat quota to Bhuj which was RLWL1.
