Feb 17 2017 (09:29)   Passengers to pay about 15 per cent more than the existing fare for travel in Antodaya Unreserved Express

Indian Railways to run two Antodaya Express rakes which are ready now to be rolled out on the high demand long-route destinations – one to ply between Mumbai-Tata and the second is slated to run between Ernakulam-Howrah.
NEW DELHI: General passengers will have to shell out about 15 per cent more than the existing fare for travelling in Antodaya Express, the fully unreserved superfast service to be launched shortly in dense routes. Equipped with facilities like water purifiers, mobile phone charging points and fire extinguishers among others, the first Antodaya Express is slated to be pressed into service from Mumbai for Tatanagar this month. Provided with bio-toilets for zero discharge of effluents, Antodaya coaches will have toilet occupation indication lights provided at

each end near the doorway with better visibility from compartments, a first in general class.
Two rakes of Antodaya Express are ready now to be rolled out on the high demand long-route destinations, a senior Railway Ministry official said. While one will be launched between Mumbai and Tata, the second is slated to be between Ernakulam and Howrah, another busy route.
However, the official said the fare for Antodaya Express is likely to be slightly higher than the mail/express fares. The fare structure has not been finalised yet but it will be between 10 per cent to 15 per cent more from the regular fare, he said. Catering to the growing requirement of general passengers, Railways had announced the introduction of Antodaya superfast trains with many modern facilities for unreserved category in the last budget.
Cushioned luggage racks with coat hooks, Antyodaya Express will also have LED lights and enhanced capacity dustbins. Besides there will be cushioned seats with aluminium composite panels interior for aesthetic look of the coach. Railways has maintained that manufacturing cost of these coaches with modern facilities is high, so there have to be special fares for these services which will be higher than that of regular trains.
Earlier Railways introduced the Humsafar Express, the fully AC-3 service, also part of the budget commitment, with dynamic fares. After Antodaya, railways will launch Tejas Express, another special service in April with higher fares.

Exactly. Even in sleeper class, I personally have seen quite a few occasions unmanned coaches and TTE has never checked the tickets right from boarding point to destination. Not sure how they plan to do it in overcrowded general coaches, when railways themselves are grappling with less manpower.
On a lighter note, maybe do they want people to move to these trains since there is no checking , thereby automatically reducing load in the express trains in those same routes !!!

Why would people want to take such trains that cost you more and do not provide reservation? There is a possibility that before increasing prices for all regular trains or introducing dynamic prices throughout, they might be checking that whether such tactics are unsuccessful or not in the "hyped trains" like Humsafar and Antyodaya etc.

because of timings and intermediate passengers have not good connection on that time this (TATA LTT and return) have great times in between TATA-DURG-NGP connection most of General Passengers suffer this route due to lack of GS class train and they have to opt fully crowded Geetanjali, Mumbai Mail to travel upto Nagpur, Myself suffered most of times, and if i am paid 15% more but comfortable ride in Antyodaya i will prefer as it starts my Second Home place TATA so seat occupation is not a big deal, also reach Birth Place DURG on Morning 7AM arround so i considered this connection to be great over Mumbai Mail & Geetanjali.

Feb 16 2017 (09:09)   What finance minister Arun Jaitley didn't tell you in his budget speech about the state of Indian Railways

Anurag WAPAHOLIC~   808 news posts
Entry# 2166681   News Entry# 294030         Tags   Past Edits
Calls for the incorporation of the Railway Budget into the General Budget have been made over the years. However, this demotion from a full-fledged speech to a few paragraphs in the finance minister's speech has not been without pitfalls. This year it has allowed the government to obfuscate and hide many deficiencies of Indian Railways.
For instance, freight earnings in 2016-17 are lower than in 2015-16. This is the first time freight earnings have fallen since 1978-79. It is a telling statistic about the state of the railways and the overall economy .
The
...
finance minister has also masked a shift in the manner in which railway projects are financed. For 70 years, capital expenditure for the railways has been borne by the Union government. Now, Indian Railways has set up 70 projects to be constructed in collaboration with nine state governments.
The sustainability of these projects is still to be tested. In the years to come, the railway ministry will wash its hands of these projects and leave them to state governments that may not have the capacity , expertise or means. This massive shift is being undertaken under the radar, and is leading to the Central government gradually walking away from a key infrastructure area.
The points raised above are not paranoia. There is a basis to them. Any budget has two sides that should balance: the earnings side and the expenditure side. When these don't balance, we have either a positive budget or a negative budget, a profit or a loss. In turn, expenditure has t two parts: revenue expenditure and capital expenditure. Capital s expenditure is raised by the revenue surplus that the railways can gather, boosted by loans, grants and budgetary support. In case of loans, there is an element of additional cost by way of interest.
Indian Railways has taken a g massive Rs 7.5 lakh crore loan t from Life Insurance Corporation. How will it repay the loan? It has no internal revenue surplus (despite the government's attempt to whitewash railway accounts) and without the cost and terms of the LIC loan being revealed. In the midst of all this, huge and capital intensive projects are being announced without assessing their profitability.
Is Indian Railways being sucked into a debt trap? Is this another Air India in the making?
A separate Railway Budget would have required the government to explain all this in detail and answer hard questions. With the merger of the Railway Budget and General Budget, the government has neatly avoided this interrogation. The NDA government is focussing on raising funds for capital investment. But it is ignoring the priority of keeping revenue streams strong. This is like a household that is not earning enough but is taking loans to buy expensive appliances. For Indian Railways, this has amounted to a dearth of money for the depreciation fund and for essential safety works. The spurt in train accidents can perhaps be explained by this, and the consequences are worrying.
No doubt rail safety was emphasised in the Budget with the announcement of the Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh. However, as on November 2016, 1,25,754 non-gazetted posts related to safety were vacant. As of October 2016, there were 410 pending compensation claims relating to train accidents.Instead of bullet trains, doesn't India need more safety officials?
Can't the government at least fill vacancies that exist?
Safety is directly linked to the financial health of Indian Railways. The government needs to take immediate action to enhance freight and passenger earnings. Here again, some numbers are helpful. Till the 1990s, movement of petroleum products was the most profitable business segment for Indian Railways and it moved 75% of goods in this sector. Today the number is down to 10%. The focus should be on remedying such issues.
Postscript: I am a member of the Parliamentary Convention Committee that is due to meet next week. The primary duty of this committee is to recommend payment of dividends from Indian Railways to the finance ministry . With the finance ministry now taking direct charge of the Railway Budget, this committee has no work. I fail to understand why it is meeting and why it is not being disbanded.

be committed to the railway ministry. (PTI)
The first portion of the railways’ long-awaited dedicated freight corridor (DFC) will become operational by March 2018 between Ateli and Phulera. This will be a 190-km double track route — a total of 380-km track length — on the Western DFC, and the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) has already committed this to the railway ministry.
In addition, around 500-600 km of additional track length will be operational by financial year 2018-19, according to a DFCCIL official. The official, however, did not name the regions as they are still to be committed to the railway ministry.
DFCCIL, a special purpose vehicle of the railways, has been entrusted to develop six DFCs across the country, of which, the Eastern DFC and the Western DFC have been taken up on priority basis with funding assistance from World Bank and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), respectively.
The Ateli-Phulera section will take over the freight load from the Indian Railways, and in total, DFCs will transfer a minimum of 70% of the freight carried by the Indian Railways on tracks parallel to DFCs. While JICA has sanctioned R38,722-crore loan, World Bank has committed $2.725 billion till now for the project.
According to DFCCIL MD Adesh Sharma, the capital expenditure is expected to reach R10,000 crore in the current financial year with total investments till date reaching R29,760 crore.
The cost of operations on the DFCs is expected to go up by 40% as it will have longer trains with higher tonnage capacity compared with the existed operational ones. The average speed in these tracks is also expected to rise threefold to 70-75 km per hour from the current 20-25 km per hour.
One rack on the DFC will be able to carry 13,000 tonnes of load compared with 5,000 tonnes carried by racks on the existing railway tracks.
According to Sharma, tariffs on these corridors will be lower and once all the corridors are operational, the railways’ share in carrying freight will rise from the current 30% to 50%.
While the Eastern DFC will connect Mughalsarai to Ludhiana, the Western DFC will run between Dadri and Jawahar Lal Nehru Port.
According to Sharma, almost 96% of the land required for the two DFCs has been acquired, though it is facing some issues in patches on the Khurja-Kanpur section on the Eastern DFC which is slated to operational by August 2018.
Around 160 hectares of land in Maharashtra and 184 hectares in Uttar Pradesh are also facing acquisition issues which the SPV expects to resolve by July. A total of 10,600 hectares of land is required for the two corridors excluding the Dankuni-Sonenagar stretch on the Eastern DFC which will be implemented through PPP.
DFCCIL has awarded contracts worth Rs 35,700 crore in the last two years and contracts worth R11,700 crore have been awarded since April 2016.
“All the contracts including civil and electrical on the Western DFC have been awarded and work has started on all patches,” said Sharma.
Till now, 500 km of DFC has been laid with 100 m being done per day at places where manual labour is engaged and 1.5 km where mechanised NTC machines are being used.
At present three such machines are operational and by June, four more will be deployed, taking the per day track laying average to 9-10 km per day.

Recently took 12274 Duronto for Howrah. In Sleeper class during summer season, the main problem which most of the passengers faced was water bottles getting warm due to hot air blowing outside. Added to this, there were no arrangements of cold water in pantry car. It was also very difficult to get cold water in Kanpur station because many shops did not have cold/chilled water 7 train stops there for 5 minutes only. Finally, the cold water was available at Mughalsarai. Hence, to all the passengers who wish to take Howrah Duronto during summer season, I have following suggestions:
1. Preferably, take AC class.
2.

For SL class, make arrangements of chilled water at NDLS itself. The non-stop service of train and extreme heat in UP will create problems.

To enhance passengers safety and curb criminal activities onboard, train coaches will be fitted with automatic door locking mechanism soon, according to the PTI.
Under the new system to be controlled by train guard from his cabin, all doors will automatically open when a train arrives at station and close before it departs.
At present, train doors are opened and closed manually.
Incidents of
...
passengers falling off running trains are reported regularly and the problem is acute in the Mumbai suburban section. Falling off trains is the second major cause of death as well, the first being the cases of persons being run over by trains.
"Equipped with automatic door locking system, two Rajdhani and two Shatabdi trains will be operational by April this year as a pilot project," said a senior Railway Ministry official.
Later on, the system will be replicated on all trains including suburban services across the country.
According to the official, "Most of the passengers fall or slip from running trains when they struggle to ginto a coach and fail to enter it or get dashed against an electric pole beside tracks...There are also cases when many people lost their lives while performing stunts at gates."
It would cost the railways about Rs 20 lakh per coach to make the automatic system operational.
"Trains will not move unless all doors are closed. The guards will have the command control of the system at their cabins," the official said, "Drivers will also be given command control at a later stage."
In the new system, doors will be opened only on the platform side and those of the other side will remain closed, thus eliminating the chances of any unauthorised entry.
The status of all the doors (closed/opened) is indicated in master control panel in the guard cabin.
The new system will also eliminate the chances of passengers getting off a moving train.
The mechanism also provides an audio announcement and visual indication while opening/closing activity of the door is being done.
He said the operation of the closing or opening mechanism will not be completed if obstructions are noticed in the path of movement.
However, the doors can be locally opened by placing an emergency push button and after the train has stopped in case of alarm chain pulling or application of brake by guard.

Finally something for Raj and Shts. I was beginning to think that all new facilities will be prioritized for Gatimaan, Humsafar, Tejas and Uday.

Hello, Everyone!!
it's been about 1 month of my comeback and I see a total new IRI is here, I would like to represent the situation here by illustrating a natural phenomenon defined by FOOD WEB or simple one FOOD CHAIN!!
.
In the ecosystem, we have basically 4 different levels:
(1)
...
Producers
(2) Herbivores
(3) Carnivores
(4) Top Carnivores
.
In a Food chain the line of feeding is (1)-(2)-(3)-(4) (- means eaten by). For a completely balanced ecosystem, we need a right ratio between all these, else things can go adversely, like if Carnivores outnumbers herbivores then they may harm them all by predating and then grass will grow exponentially resulting death of Carnivores(As they don't eat Grass) that in turn will lead to killing of Top carnivores, and one day destroying the entire ecosystem. So Any of the components IN EXCESS CAN DO LOT OF HARM.
.
Here, in IRI we have members, FM/TL monitors and Admins. Overgrowth any of these can result as TOXICITY of IRI, and it has been done, there are too much of active FMs here in IRI which is not good for the environmental neutrality, As Excess of H+ or OH- shifts the pH and imbalances it, same is being done here, many of you may not know what i am talking about, even i can't write the names and acts here but you can expect these things in future if FMs/TLMs keeps increasing:
.
(1) Competition to prove superiority which can lead to several unnecessary VOIDS and CONFIRMS
(2) Competition to be more neutral and unbiased or to show some supremacy which can result in various problems with Blog archiving.
(3) Internal Wars, etc.
.
The excuse may come that if members are increasing then why shouldn't FMs???
Answer: Do we really need 1 FM/TLM per member? or per Blog post?? 10 of them can handle 400 of blogs/members (as not all of blogs are controversial or not all members are trollers)
.
.
So, what can be done?? well, why do we have POLLS then, on basis of RECOMMENDATIONS coming from ADMINS or MODERATOR's Self Picks can be kept in a POLL and People will decide who can be FM. (POLL TO BE CONDUCTED BY MOD, obviously)
.

Why OT 12260? 12260 is supposed to reach CNB before Humsafar. Hence, Humsafar has to follow 12260.

A minor update, but may impact many members: Hereafter, FMs will be able to delete invalid Red Flags on Imaginary trains. -@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...

The modification to the TL Update scheme - i.e. the introduction of the new RAC System - has led to some efficiency with TL Updates. More TLs are being discussed, and quickly moved up. However, we still have on Average, about 300 Waitlisted TLs in the backlog at any time, and our hard-working and diligent TLMs...
