Even if CSTM's platforms are extended, Dadar Express cannot be made 24-coacher because it departs from Dadar (DR) station which has no space for any PF extension.

He is a retired AGM of South Eastern Railway, certainely more knowledgeable than pvt job doing / college studying / competitive exam aspirants with age 20s or 30s like you and me. When anyone comments to any article, his/her reaction should be taken in context with the write up not with the author's personal character. Second, elderly people can't write anything wrong, is this an universal law? Few months back a very senior retried Railway Official wrote an article in a reputed newspaper where he criticized the use of CBC coupling in passenger coaches. He literally bashed the Railway Board & railway ministry for installation of CBC coupling in passenger coaches and called this a retrogressive act. After few days, Kanpur accident happened and once again proved that screw coupling causes more casualties during an accident. So, whether that "experienced, retired" official was right? Respect the experience but use you own wisdom too.

I stopped reading this baseless article when the writer said that railways aren't a necessity to this country.

कम किराए में यात्रा करने का शौक है। ऐसे लोग बस की अपेक्षा  छोटी लाइन ट्रेन में यात्रा करते हैं। चूंकि टिकट चेकिंग बहुत ही कम होती है, जिसके चलते यात्री टिकट खरीदने में पैसा खर्च करना उचित नहीं समझते। करीब 100 साल पहले ग्वालियर स्टेट के महाराज माधव राव सिंधिया प्रथम ने नैरोगेज रेल ट्रैक बिछवाया था। ग्वालियर से श्योपुर तक का ट्रैक तीन चरणों में पूरा हुआ। पहले 1904 में ग्वालियर से सबलगढ़ तक फिर यह वीरपुर तक पहुंचा और 1909 में श्योपुर तक रेल लाइन पहुंच गई। सौ साल पहले जहां बसें और दूसरे वाहन नहीं चलते थे, वहां ग्वालियर से श्योपुर के लिए ट्रेन चलती थी। लेकिन आज यह छोटी रेल ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों के लिए लाइफ लाइन कहलाती है।
एक हजार से ज्यादा यात्री करते हैं यात्रा श्योपुर से ग्वालियर व सबलगढ़ से ग्वालियर के बीच संचालित नैरोगेज पैसेंजर व डीआरसी ट्रेन में प्रतिदिन एक हजार से अधिक यात्री यात्रा करते हैं। लेकिन इनमें से अधिकतर यात्री ग्वालियर स्टेशन से न बैठते हुए मोतीझील रेलवे स्टेशन से बिना टिकट बैठ जाते हैं। इन यात्रियों को कभी भी कोई भय नहीं होता।
ब्रॉड गेज में बदलना फायदेमंद नहीं:- इस नैरोगेज को ब्रॉड गेज में बदलने की योजना रेलवे ने बनाई। नेताओं ने आंदोलन भी किए, लेकिन सूत्रों की मानें तो रेलवे ने इस ट्रैक को आर्थिक रूप से फायदेमंद नहीं माना। सूत्रों की मानें तो रेलवे छोटी लाइन को ब्राड गेज में बदलने के लिए कोई भी रूचि नहीं ले रहा है।
घाटे में चल रही है ट्रेन सूत्रों की मानें तो नैरोगेज ट्रेन घाटे में चल रही है। जिसके चलते बीते रोज एक बार तो ट्रेन के इंजन में डीजल ही खत्म हो गया था। अगर चैकिंग दल बिना यात्रियों पर कार्रवाई करना शुरू कर देगा तो रेलवे के राजस्व में बढ़ोत्तरी होगी। लेकिन स्टेशन पर चैकिंग दल प्लेटफार्म पर घूम रहे लोगों पर ही जुर्माना लगा रहे है।
कई बार हुईं दुर्घटनाएं नैरोगेज पैसेंजर ट्रेन में यात्रा करने के दौरान कई बार यात्री कोच की छत व कपलिंग से नीचे गिरकर घायल हुए हैं। कोच की छत से यात्रियों को नीचे उतारने का अभियान जब कभी चलने से महिला यात्री भी कोच के ऊपर बैठकर यात्रा करती हैं।
टिकट काउंटर पर लगती है लंबी लाइन रेलवे की लापरवाही का खामियाजा यात्रियों को उठाना पड़ रहा है। रेलवे स्टेशन पर सुबह 6 से 8 बजे तक यात्रियों का दबाव अधिक होने के बावजूद भी सामान्य टिकट के प्लेटफॉर्म 1 पर तीन और प्लेटफॉर्म 4 पर सिर्फ 4 काउंटर हैं। इसलिए सुबह काउंटर पर टिकट लेने के लिए लंबी लाइन में लगना पड़ता है। अगर नंबर आने से पहले प्लेटफॉर्म पर ट्रेन आ जाती है तो यात्री को बिना टिकट के ही ट्रेन में यात्रा करना पड़ता है।
टिकट लेकर यात्रा करने वाले परेशान *ट्रेन में टिकट लेकर यात्रा करने वाले यात्रियों को जगह नहीं मिलती।
*बिना टिकट यात्री पहले से ही सीटों पर कब्जा कर लेते हैं।
*कई बार तो यात्रियों में विवाद की स्थिति भी बन जाती है।
अधिकतर ट्रेनें सुबह 6 से 8 बजे के बीच *रेलवे स्टेशन से दिल्ली, भिंड, शिवपुरी के लिए जाने वाली अधिकतर ट्रेनें सुबह 6 से 8 बजे के बीच रवाना होती हैं।
*दो घंटों में स्टेशन से करीब 10 हजार यात्री ट्रेनों में सवार होते हैं।
*ट्रेन का एक ही समय होने पर भिंड लाइन व नैरोगेज लाइन पर यात्री बिना टिकट यात्रा करते हैं।

BG train have much more capacity than the NG/MG train (multiplying effect of more number of coaches per train as well as more number of passengers per coach), so equal number of trains should not be expected.
One most important benefit after GC is introduction of long distance trains which provide new connectivity to far off cities of our country.

The Railway Ministry is all set to approve the construction of a 240 km broad-gauge railway line connecting Diglipur in North Andaman Island with the Union Territory’s capital city, Port Blair.
Currently, Diglipur is connected to Port Blair via a 350-km bus service, which takes 14 hours to complete, and a ship that takes 24 hours.

The Andaman and Nicobar islands have also agreed to share 50% of the operational cost, or losses, because a railway survey suggests that line will see a negative rate of return on investment. In spite of the potential losses, the ministry is set to approve the project because of its strategic importance.
Jagdish Mukhi, Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, told The Indian Express that tourism in the islands will increase from 4.5 lakh visitors annually, to an estimated 6 lakh tourists.

Firstly, to be very clear, NO railway lines 'cater' to small villages. All railway lines connect cities and big towns. Small villages just happen to lie on their alignment.
Secondly, jo ban gaye unhe nahi ukhadna hai. It is sunk cost. Jo nahi banne chaiye unhe banne se roka ja sakta.
Thirdly, Fatehabad (FTD) is my home village my entire paternal family lives and works there. I am in good position to tell this line is not at all required.

what if indb dwx line breaks down and train has to reach bpl. Yes there would be one option of indb ftd rtm ujjain but that is 205 KM long however this route ftd ujjain is making indore ujjain just 63 KM. INDB to BPL there are 15 trains and indb to nagda there are 12 trains

Nahi sir i vividly remember it was in April 2013. It was from MDS to UJN in UDZ INDB Exp. Travel distance was just 200 km but 6+ hrs. I went to MDS to attend my friend's wedding and I had booked the ticket as soon as the wedding date was fixed (around 1-2 months ago). I tried searching the PNR in booked history of IRCTC but since it is too old, couldnt find the same. Will search my email id for PNR. But it wont probably show the upgraded class as it will be the booking email.
