If you have an attested copy, show it to the SM before boarding the train and obtain his necessary permission.
For kind information of everyone, an attested copy of any document holds equally good to the original document.

Attestation can be done any gazetted level officer; like District Judge, District Magistrate and so on.
On valid grounds, any organization be it IR or Airplane authority is bound by law to accept attested documents. However, in most cases the same should be accompanied by a FIR stating that the original document has been lost

Can be easily challenged in the court of law. However it is always advisable to seek the permission of SM/TTE/Guard before boarding the train in case of such events. Kindly note, even the biggest and strictest of organization cannot negate the presence of an attested document.

You need to understand something very clearly before disputing further. I have clearly mentioned earlier that the same should be accompanied by a FIR stating that the original document has been lost. Why would one need to produce an attested document when he/she already has the original one?
In an event when the original document is lost, every organization be it your government institution, counselling departments or the railways are BOUND to accept the attested document as empowered by the law.

It is always better to ask for an official permission before boarding with the attested document. In case you have a FIR copy with you, approach the SM of your boarding station and lodge a formal complaint.
