Trains from Hubballi to Varanasi, Mysuru to be introduced
Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha has promised to consider favourably a demand for introducing a train between Hubballi and Mangaluru to provide connectivity between the coastal and interior regions of Karnataka.
Replying to a demand by Pralhad Joshi, MP, at a ceremony to release a stamp brought out by the India Post to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the saint Hanagal Kumaraswamy here on Friday, Mr. Manoj Sinha said that he would try his best to consider this demand and see

that a train was run between these two cities of the State.
Saying that this demand had been made by people of this region as well as that of the coastal belt, Mr. Joshi said that Hubballi was already connected with Mysuru and Bengaluru by train and the department of Railways has also fulfilled the demand for introducing new trains to Varanasi and Mysuru.
He has also urged the Minister to consider another demand for introducing the train between Hubballi and Mangaluru.
Later, Mr. Joshi told The Hindu that he had briefed the Minister regarding the need for running a train between Hubballi and Mangaluru via Arsikere junction.
Earlier, a train was running between Mangaluru and Miraj via Hubballi and it was stopped during the gauge conversion works. The Minister has been urged to reintroduce this train.
Later, this train could be diverted via Ankola once the works of laying a railway track between Hubballi and Ankola was completed.
Mr. Joshi also announced on this occasion that the Ministry of Railways has fulfilled the demand for providing a train between Hubballi and Varanasi (Kashi) and a day train between Hubballi and Mysuru. Both of these trains would be flagged off at a function to be held here on May 23, he said.

May 19 2017 (11:21)   Metro must cross 13-km hurdle to reach KIA

Bengaluru: The government finalizing the Metro link to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) from Nagawara via Jakkur and Yelahanka may have brought cheer, but the biggest challenge for Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) will be to construct the underground stations on the Gottigere-MG Road-Nagawara line.
The link is an extension of the Gottigere-Nagawara line, which is a part of Namma Metro Phase 2. It is a 21.25km corridor, of which only 7.5km is over the ground and 13.7km is underground. Officials said they will require more than five tunnel boring machines (TBMs) for the 13-km route.
The
...
line will have 12 underground stations — Swagath Cross on Bannerghatta Road, Dairy Circle, Mico Factory, Langford Town, MG Road, Shivajinagar, Cantonment Railway Station, Pottery Town, Tannery Road, Venkateshpura, Arabic College and Nagawara. These areas of central and east Bengaluru are already crowded and BMRC needs to block parts of the roads to build the underground stations.
"We need nearly an acre of land on the ground for each of the 12 underground stations. The land acquisition for this has not begun. We will also need to block some parts of these roads for construction and safety reasons," officials said.
Land for six elevated stations is also yet to be acquired. BMRC has paid Rs 600 crore to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), which has to be handed over to land losers as compensation. KIADB will now begin the acquisition process.
Pradeep Singh Kharola, BMRC MD, said: "The target is to complete the civil construction of the entire 21-km line in 36 months, and that is why we will need to deploy more TBMs to complete tunnelling, which is the tough part."
BMRC will make use of the five existing TBMs that were deployed for Metro's first phase. This means each TBM will tunnel nearly a 1-km stretch, making it a faster process.
However, experts say the geotechnical conditions will be as tough as they were in Chickpet. TG Sitaram, IISc professor, told TOI, "The old areas of Bengaluru from east to north are like a plateau. The soil is a combination of soft soil and hard rocks, like in Chickpet. It will be a difficult and time-consuming process. The only advantage is the machines, which can handle this kind of soil. How much time it would take cannot be estimated so early."
The estimated cost of the Gottigere-Nagazara line is around Rs 11,014 crore; according to the Phase 2 detailed project report, BMRC had estimated it to be complete by 2023.
All this only points to a probable delay of the airport link from Nagawara via Jakkur and Yelahanka even as Siddaramaiah has directed officials to prepare a detailed project report.

There are going to spend Rs 11,014 crore for this metro line, which include disturbing crowded areas, tunnel boring, a decade of time, etc.
But they are ignoring to use existing rail line on Devanahalli route, with DEMU trains and station near flyover will reduce commute to airport drastically.

BENGALURU: The countdown has begun for the launch of Sampige Road-Yelachenahalli Metro corridor, operationalizing the entire Phase I of Bengaluru's mass rapid transit project. The inspection for issuing safety clearance is to begin on Wednesday, even as authorities have invited Pranab Mukherjee to flag off the service. Tenders have been floated for distributing 10,000 laddus, besides providing 5kg dry fruits for VIPs to munch during the function.
On Monday, Bangalore Metro Railway Corporation (BMRC) officials invited K A Manoharan, commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) of south western railway zone, for inspection.
"I

will visit them on Wednesday to get a brief explanation of the track and train testing that's going on right now. The inspection, which will require three or four days, will start early next week and may be completed by this monthend. I need to check on a number of aspects before issuing the safety certificate. It may take one day or a week," he told TOI.
With the launch, the 42-km Phase I network of Namma Metro will be fully operational. The network will have 42 stations and the Kempegowda station will be the first underground interchange station. The Green line from Nagasandra in the north will run up to Yelachenahalli, Kanakapura Road, in the south. While the entire East-West corridor between Byappanahalli and Mysuru Road is up and running, only a part of northern corridor between Sampige Road and Nagasandra is operational. The underground stretch from Mantri Square station to KR Market and the elevated corridor from the National College to Puttenahalli through RV Road and Jayanagar will now be open for public use.
Chief minister Siddaramaiah is learnt to have sent an invitation to the President for the event but the date has not been mentioned. "The plan to invite the President has been there for some time as it might give brownie points to the Congress in the state. However, he has not been given a confirmed date because the safety certification is yet to be received," sources said.
The last launch of the underground stretch between Magadi Road and MG Road too was a costly event with 5,000 laddus ordered for guests.
BMRC has floated four tenders for food, snacks and beverages for VIPs, guests, staff and security personnel.
THE LAUNCH MENU
5,000 packets of two laddus each
5 kg of dry fruits
3,000 juice tetrapacks
1,000 plates, each one having a rice item, curd rice and a water bottle; This may go up to 5,000
Staff refreshments include breakfast and snacks with coffee, tea, green tea, butter milk, accompanied by a water bottle
Breakfast for 250 VIPs and snacks including coffee, green tea and butter milk, and a water bottle each

A proposal in this regard has been submitted to the railway headquarters for approval
Section of speeds of some trains in the Mysuru division of the South Western Railway is likely to be increased and a proposal for the same has been submitted to the railway headquarters for approval.
As per the proposal, the top speed of trains to Nanjangud, which is restricted to 70 kmph at present, will be increased to 90 kmph. This is subject to completion of ballasting which is in progress and the tentative date of completion of the
...
ongoing ballasting work is June 30, 2017.
The proposal to speed up the train on the section was sent on the railway headquarters on December 30, 2016 and is expected in due course. Once the trains are speeded up, the 25-km stretch between Mysuru and Nanjangud can be covered in shorter duration as against nearly 45 minutes that it takes at present. Incidentally, the four-laning of the highway between Mysuru and Nanjangud has reduced the tedium of motoring on the road and the distance is covered in around 25 to 30 minutes by the motorists.
Similarly, for trains plying in the section between Nanjangud and Chamarajanagar, which has a route length of 35 km, the top speed at present is 70 kmph and the proposal is to increase the same to 100 kmph to reduce the running time of the trains.
The Chamarajanagar-Mysuru trains are the lifeline of the daily wagers from the rural hinterland as thousands of workers with Izzat pass use the services daily and seek employment in the construction sector.
On the Mysuru-Bengaluru section, the newly completed broad gauge double line 6-km stretch between Mysuru and Naganahalli has a speed limit of 70 kmph at present. It is proposed to increase it to 100 kmph and the tentative date of completing the ballasting work is June 30, 2017, according to railway officials.
The Hassan – Sakleshpur section, with a route length of 42 km, has a sectional speed of 65 kmph and it is proposed to increase it to 70 kmph and this is expected to be cleared once the ballasting works are completed in another two months.
Trains on the Shivamogga Town-Talaguppa sections are also to be speeded up and the current speed limit on the 97-km stretch varies from 50 kmph to 70 kmph between different points. This is to be increased to 70 kmph to 90 kmph for which the proposal has been sent to the higher authorities.

From what I know.... the max speed LPs are allowed to accelerate to....
-
SBC-KGI = 60
KGI-NHY = 100
NHY-MYS = 60
MYS-HAS
...
= 70
HAS-SBGA = 50
SBGA-NMGA = 80
NMGA-BAW = 50
HAS-SKLR = 45
RRB-SMET = 70, but capable of 100.
SMET-TLGP = 60.
UBL-YPR = 100.
-
Of these, I can't understand why the new section tracks inaugurated a few years ago - BAW-NMGA and SBGA-HAS have such low speeds. No proper work has been done in ballasting after inauguration, was what I learnt. Now that new section NMGA-SBGA is high speed, they should look and complete the work, so that BAW-HAS have good uniform speed.

He appeals to the Railway Ministry to speed up works that are under way
M. Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, has expressed discontent over the slow pace of railway works in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.
Addressing a press conference at Aiwan-E-Shahi guest house in Kalaburagi on Monday, he appealed to the Union Railway Ministry to continue working on the initiatives he had taken during his brief tenure as Union Railway Minister and to speed up the works that are under way.
“In
...

order to develop railway infrastructure in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, I, as Union Railway Minister, had taken many initiatives such as opening a railway divisional office in Kalaburagi, laying of tracks between the Bidar and Kalaburagi stretch and the Wadi and Gadag stretch, electrification of railway tracks, and construction of railway over-bridges at several level-crossings at Wadi. While a few of these are yet to take off despite having budgetary allocations, the rest seem to be moving at a snail’s pace,” Mr. Kharge said.
He added that the issue of scarcity of sand that had delayed tunnel work on the Kalaburagi-Bidar railway stretch had been resolved by involving both the Kalaburagi Regional Commissioner and the Raichur Deputy Commissioner who would facilitate quality sand extraction from Raichur district. “I hope the work will be completed by September,” he said.
Highlighting the statutory issues involved in procurement of gravel required for track-doubling works, Mr. Kharge said that he had talked to the others concerned for facilitating hassle-free procurement. “As per the new rules, permission is required for gravel mining. Upon my direction, the Regional Commissioner has asked the contractor to collect gravel from government land and only then approach private ones if a sufficient quantity is not available in the former source,” he said.

Karnataka by Udupi Rail Yatri Sangha president R.L. Dias. South Western Railway had undertaken before the court to run the train by March 31.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sadananda Gowda said that he had to boycott the Bengaluru-Hassan new line opening ceremony last month in Mangaluru as the Kudla Express was not introduced the same day. He had told Mr. Prabhu that he would not attend any Railway function till the Kudla Express was introduced.
Responding to MLC Ivan D’Souza’s grouse about Mangaluru Central not being made a world-class station, Mr. Sadananda Gowda said that the world-class concept is not followed at present. Instead, Mangaluru has been chosen in the first batch of 400 A1 and A category stations to be upgraded by Railways, he said.
Mr. Prabhu also inaugurated electrification of the rail line between Mangaluru and Chervathur, doubling of line between Jokatte and Panambur, and railway goods siding at Thokur.
Mr. Prabhu also witnessed signing of a loan pact between Konkan Railway and a consortium of lenders comprising State Bank of India and Exim Bank for a loan of Rs. 1,2000 crore.
KRCL will take electrification of its 748 km route network at a cost of Rs. 1,510 crore. While the Centre will provide Rs. 310 crore, the balance will be met through the loan.

1510 crores for 748 Kms. Isn't it 1 cr per Km? Even considering the problems of KR route, isn't the amount high?

Also,...
