A Konkan railway special blog.
Random collection of some pics during my travel in Goa sampark kranti, really mesmerized by the beauty of the konkan railway and the frequent short and long tunnels throughout the stretch.
Best route till now through which I have travelled till now.

Nagpur depot too :( But the driver unlocks it at Nagpur outskirts after that Airforce station. Then does superb run on that horrible Nagpur-Pandharkawada stretch, then once they reach TS border from Adilabad they run riot upto Medchal on Hyderabad outskirts.

most depots in MH do that, but their agression, even within the limits imposed is outstanding :)
KSRTC is excellent, but their many non-ac interstate buses are speed locked at 60; they don't take many stops, but just keep on going at the sedate pace of 60 (sedate when everything around them is whizzing past in 3 figures)

Yes NWKRTC worst among the 3 corporations :) like a slow juggernaut especially in MH from Mumbai to Pune expressway and then towards Hubballi.

hotel load winding (dual)+traction transformer's primary=step down transformer.
what EOG has is convertors plus some heavy duty RL filters.
But your remaining info is spot on, so wanted to ask one thing: is it BLHO button that LP keeps on pressing after every NZ? Also, what is the general range of distance between two NZ? i have heard 35-40 Km on double line, but your distance is half of it (although i believe you are correct)

Eog also has some sort of Ups system capable of providing power to coaches for 10-15 min.I think yes it was BLHO marked MCB,and over here few places NZ are even 10 kms apart and some places 20 kms too so I said 16 kms on an average.
Ssp zones
Pnbe
10 kms
PNC
...

22 kms
Koo
33kms
Barh
10 kms
PHK
18kms
Mka
17 kms
Brya
18 kms
KIUL
13 kms
MNP
14 kms Jmu
And so on,so I said 16 on an avg.

probably its good it isn't LHB. already sirf do UR hai, aur kitne kam karenge usse 22 coach ke length mai laane?
Let the HOG concept get developed fully+HOG locos increased, then they can try to convert it to LHB

ride quality is slightly less (not very smooth like LHB, but that isn't an issue). CBC jerks are a problem though (but you get that in LHB too), though Kaushal sir loved it :P

Feb 22 2017 (09:52)   Work to introduce semi-high speed trains on two routes to begin soon

©The Dark Lord™~   29 news posts
Entry# 2173925   News Entry# 294511         Tags   Past Edits
Indian Railways will soon start sub-projects aimed at introducing semi-high speed trains on the Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai routes, a senior ministry official said on Tuesday. “The two sub-projects under ‘Mission Raftaar’ are expected to be completed in three years with a total outlay of Rs 18,163 crore,” the official said. After the upgrade, trains on the routes will run at a speed of 160 km per hour.
The ‘Mission Raftaar’ project of the Indian Railways envisages to raise the average speed of both passenger and freight trains. The mission is being spearheaded by a cross disciplinary mobility directorate in the Railway Board. The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said a Detailed Project Report of the routes is being prepared.

The Delhi-Howrah section will be upgraded at a cost of Rs 6,974 crore, and the Delhi-Mumbai section at an estimated Rs 11,189 crore. The official said the work involved replacing locomotives-hauled trains with Main line Electric Multiple Units and Diesel Electric Multiple Units trains.

Gupta sir is right, but i believe GDA-RTM is 110 not 120.
the statement in the report, amazingly, isn't completely right. if you don't believe me you can check the TT's of train plying in NDLS-BRC section; average speeds drop quite a lot in the GDA-RTM section, and most trains have lower speed in the entire BRC-RTM section for this reason.
The track though is maintained to the standard required for 130 fit trains (60 Kg rails, proper banking of track etc)

I don't have that much specific knowledge regarding this route so I just said what I have read in the RDSO report, if that's wrong then all OK. MPS of section was never an issue, I was just asking that why the cost of upgrading tracks varies that much between NDLS-HWH & NDLS-BCT routes.

mountainous terrain. on flat plains it wouldn't cost much to upgrade, but here you have to literally move mountains to achieve 130 Kmph. for many trunk routes in India, the section passing through MP is the bottleneck, courtesy the plentiful mountains in that state. also, even on those tracks where 130 exists, banking is an issue. tighter curve can be done with more banking of line, but that causes discomfort to passengers. no banking leas to very high radius of curvature, so somewhere a compromise will be needed. long story short, the route out of mumbai is going to be a nightmare to upgrade to 160. you need to eliminate LC's, eliminate many banked sections of the track (there are bucket loads of them), literally move mountains in RTM-GDA stretch and upgarde the OHE to tolerate 160 Kmph (the reason for which talgo trials were done by WDP 4)

if you cancel ticket before 48 hours, your refund amount will be=your ticket cost - service tax - the amount given for each class, per person.
for instance if you have a e-ticket in 2A, costing 1000 rs, then you'll get back 1000-0-200=800 rs (service tax is zero now on e-tickets)
if you cancel between 12 hours to 48 hpurs before departure, then you'll loose 25% of fare in cancellation. for the aforementioned 1000 INR ticket you'd have got 750 back (25% of 1000 ie 250 deducted). however, if the 25% of ticket
...
is less than the value given per class in table 1, then the value given in table 1 would be deducted. So, say if you had a first class AC ticket costing 700 Rs and you cancelled it 15 hours before departure (i.e. in 12-48 hours before departure gap) then fare deducted would be ideally 25% of 700 i.e. 175 rs. however this amount of 175 is less than the 240 rs value given in table 1, hence you'd be deducted 240 rs for the same.
