Trains 12081/12082 Kannur-Thiruvananthapuram Central-Kannur Janshatabdi Expresses have been provided with temporary stoppage at the Thiruvalla railway station for six months from April 29 to October 29.
Subsequent to allocation of new stoppage, train 12081 from Kannur will have an early start by 5 minutes at 4.50 a.m. to reach Thiruvananthapuram Central at 1.55 p.m. instead of the present 1.50 p.m. Train 12082 will start from Thiruvananthapuram Central at 2.40 p.m. instead of the present 2.30 p.m., to reach Kannur at 11.50 p.m., 5 minutes later than the present time.

इंडियन रेलवे अपनी सभी ट्रेनों से AC-2 कोच खत्म करने की योजना बना रही है। वहीं, रेलवे इसकी जगह AC-3 कोच बढ़ाएगी। हाल में रेलवे की ओर से जारी आंकड़ों के अनुसार सिर्फ AC-3 कोच ही सबसे ज्यादा मुनाफा कमा कर देता है। इसीलिए माना जा रहा है कि रेलवे नॉन-एसी स्लीपर कोच की संख्या घटाकर भी AC-3 कोच बढ़ाए जा सकते हैं और कम रिस्पॉन्स के चलते 143 ट्रेनों में फ्लैक्सी फेयर सिस्टम को भी वापस लिया जा सकता है। इसकी जगह सभी ट्रेनों के बेसिक फेयर में 10 से 15 फीसदी तक की बढ़ोतरी होने की उम्मीद है।

फ्लैक्सी फेयर हो सकता है ख़त्म
राजधानी, शताब्दी, दुरंतो ट्रेनों में फ्लैक्सी फेयर सिस्टम का भी रेलवे रिव्यू कर रहा है। इस सिस्टम को बंद करने और इसके बदले में ऑप्शनल सिस्टम लाने पर सोचा जा रहा है। यह भी सोचा जा रहा है कि सभी ट्रेनों के बेसिक फेयर में 10% से 15% का इजाफा किया जाए। मंथली सीजन टिकटों के रेट भी बढ़ाए जाएं।
रेलवे के मुताबिक, पिछले साल 9 सितंबर से 31 अक्टूबर के बीच राजधानी, दुरंतो और शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस में 5 हजार 871 बर्थ खाली रही थीं। फ्लैक्सी फेयर सिस्टम को ही इसकी वजह माना गया था।

2AC is much more comfortable than 3AC where you depend on the passengers of middle berth to sleep and sit.Also, let us not forget these days 3AC seems like SL from inside. Ask those you want to sit on upper berths to use laptops, eat or read. I prefer 2AC for long journeys.

Mumbai: The debate for the removal of luggage compartment from new air-conditioned trains has gained momentum after Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu’s visit to the city. The issue was raised by railway officials after the state government finally gave an in-principle nod to the proposal that only air-conditioned trains would be procured henceforth for the city.
Officials have said that some variations are being looked into: rather than the complete removal of the luggage compartment, Central Railway, which has three luggage compartments per train, may have it reduced by one to two compartments or one compartment. An official said, “A lot of options are being looked into right now, since the train will be vestibule there are some suggestions that the use of luggage compartments be completely removed.” The official further added, “On the other hand, there is a school of thought that feels that the number of luggage compartments should be there as it is right now but they need not be air-conditioned.”
Mumbai railway officials have been at loggerheads about the AC  trains themselves as many feel that they should be run on Central Railway instead of Western Railway.
Prabhat Sahai, chief managing director of Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC), the body in charge of procuring the expected 66 trains under Mumbai Urban Transport Project III, said, “The railways has yet to decide the design of the AC train until now but yes, we are looking into what will be done with the luggage compartment.”
Railway officials have been pushing for an all AC fleet as they feet that the railways will become vulnerable as a result of the upcoming Metros. The current AC train that is parked at the Kurla car shed does not have a luggage compartment. It is undergoing trials between Kalyan and Titwala.

Two non air conditioned luggage compartments, one each at the two ends of the AC local trains aprear to be the best solution, where the problem of vendors, dabba wallahs etc as well as the convenience of through & through vestibule can be maintained.

The Indian Railways have improved its services in the recent times, and the Suresh Prabhu led Railway ministry has made phenomenal changes in the system. However, a family had a rather unsettling experience while travelling Amritsar to Delhi back in 2009. The family were not able to use the train’s washroom for 90 minutes. Dev Kant, a deputy legal advisor in the ministry of law and justice, won the battle against Indian Railways after a seven-year legal battle. In 2009, the family suffered when a huge crowd of people entered the reserved compartment and blocked all the washrooms. Woman Railway Clerk who refused to sing duet with manager issued transfer notice! Mr Kant was accompanied by his wife and two children when the incident took place, and they were restrained from using the washroom for about 90 minutes. The family were finally compensated with Rs 30000 for the incident which left them in an extremely uncomfortable position. The Indian Railways tried to frame the incident as an effort by the family to make money, but the incident is a black mark in the services on Indian railways. While the Suresh Prabhu government have been bringing positive change in the environment, we sure hope that these incidents are put in the past and not repeated.

Mumbai: Vegetable vendors and dabbawalas are of the view that eventually making all trains air-conditioned will be unfair to them. The reasoning behind this is that either their space in AC trains will reduce or disappear. However, the more likely impact might be Mumbaikars getting their dabbas late or veggies reaching the local sabzi mandi (vegetable market) late.
Dabbawalas, who are world-famous for their efficiency and man management, have said they will not be able to afford the AC train rates. Nitin Patil (25), who transports vegetables from Vasai to Dadar, said, “If we don't catch the first train and then the second and then the third, as our vegetables go out in phases, they will reach the market late and it will hit our business as no middle man likes a delayed delivery.”

With the proposed Hubballi-Mysuru exp-ress train via Bengaluru remaining on paper, the South Western Railway has sent an alternative proposal for starting a diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) for those leaving for Mysuru in the evenings.
With only one express train running to Mysuru between 4 pm and 8.30 pm, thousands of people are forced to squeeze into Chamundi Express which leaves Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna station at 6.15 pm.

However, more than six months after the proposal, the Railway Board is yet to give its approval even as an increasing number of people are writing to railway officials seeking a remedy. Officials said they were aware of the passengers’ demand but were helpless because of the shortage of coaches.
“We have now proposed a DEMU between Bengaluru and Mysuru to decongest the Chamundi Express. The DEMU can carry about 2,000 passengers. We hope the Board will approve it soon,” a senior official said. The official said that according to the tentative time table, the train will leave Bengaluru around 5.45 pm and reach Mysuru by 8 pm. In the return direction, the train will depart Mysuru around 8.45 am.
The official clarified SWR will not drop the proposal for the Hubballi-Mysuru train via Bengaluru. “There may be a delay in sanctioning the train but we won’t drop it. Once the board approves the express train, it will replace the DEMU,” he said.
Last week, Mysuru MP Pratap Simha had posted a video on Twitter showing his with interaction with passengers in the packed Chamundi Express.
The video was accompanied by a message to the railway minister: “Sir, @sureshpprabhu @SWRRLY dis is d fate f those who board Chamundi Express (Blr-Mys) @6.15 PM. So only demanding new train @narendramodi ji.”
Indicating that the proposal will become a reality, Simha tweeted on Thursday, “Demo rake is ready, but after seeing the congestion I felt 8 coaches demo is not enough, so asked 4 18 coaches n waiting
