In the news last year they proposed Nagpur - Vasco train via Akola-Latur-Miraj same route as 11403/4, this would have been shortest route with less traffic. Hope they re-consider route after special, as swr relaxed ghat constraints on Braganza.

It was sanctioned by H.D. Deve Gowda two decades ago
No one would have imagined that a project conceived by a Prime Minister would take two decades to move forward. The direct railway line between Bengaluru and Hassan, the hometown of H.D. Deve Gowda, is finally ready for commissioning.
The 110-km rail line between Nelamangala and Shravanabelagola is complete and awaiting statutory inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) by month-end. A 14-km stretch between Chikkabanavara (off Bengaluru) and Nelamangala, and 42 km between Hassan and Shravanabelagola have been commissioned.
the construction wing of the South Western Railway (SWR), nothing would be more sweeter than completion of the new line, as it had faced several hurdles including land acquisition, fund constraint and much more.
Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) Ashok Gupta told The Hindu that trains transporting construction material are on track already. The CRS would conduct speed trial during the inspection, when the train runs above 110 km per hour to examine the track’s suitability. The railways can operate trains after he issues an authorisation, which may come a fortnight after the inspection.
The new line reduces railroad distance between Bengaluru and Hassan by 50 km via Arsikere and 87 km via Mysuru. Passenger and goods trains at present run via Arsikere or Mysuru. Journey time too will reduce by at least an hour. Consequently, the distance between Bengaluru and Mangaluru will reduce to 340 km from the present 390 km (via Arsikere) and 447 km (via Mysuru).
Unique nature
The new line connects various places of historical and religious importance, including Yediyur (Siddalingeshwara), Adichunchanagiri, Shravanabelagola, and Kukke Subrahmanya/Dharmasthala, and Mangaluru. It also connects commercial places including Kunigal, Hassan, Sakleshpur, and Mangaluru, said Sanjeev Dyamannavar of Praja-Raag, an advocacy group.
Besides introducing direct trains between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, the railways should introduce inter-city trains between Sakleshpur and Bengaluru for enhanced connectivity, he said.
The SWR should also work with CRS to ease speed restrictions on the Ghat stretch between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road stations so as to run more passenger trains between Mangaluru and Bengaluru and other parts of the State, he said.

Jan 16 2017 (11:13)   Rlys lay track on unacquired land near Bagalkot

The work of laying a new railway track between Belagavi and Bagalkot has stopped for over week as the authorities have laid a track on a land not acquired for the project. The farmers on whose land the track has been laid have stopped the work demanding compensation.
In Kagalagomb village of Badami taluk, the land was acquired in survey No. 1621 to 5 for laying the track but the authorities have laid the track in the land coming under survey number 1676 forcing farmers to stop the work.
The railways has laid
the track in 1.7 acre of land belonging to Hanumanthgouda though they his one acre land in another survey number was acquired for the purpose.Similarly the mother of one Raju Mudigoudar of Kagalgomb village has lost one acre land as the railwyas has laid track in her land while his son's one acre land has been acquired by the authorities.“We had divided the land much before and there are separate RTCs for both our lands. Despite that the authorities have acquired my mother's land,'' Raju said.Kutbuddin Kazi, president, Karnataka Rajya Broad Gauge Horata Samiti blamed the revenue department officials for the confusion.
“It is the mistake of the land acquisition officers who gave railways the wrong survey numbers. Because of their mistake farmers are made to suffer“ he said.
The Bagalkot-Kudachi new railway line was proposed way back in 1911 but it got approval only during Mamata Banarjee`s tenure as railway minister.
The joint survey was conducted in 2011 and work began in 2013. Since then, 33 kilometers of new line has been laid covering the 23 villages in under Bagalkot district. However, the process of land acquisition in Belagavi district is yet to begin.

Jan 15 2017 (18:15)   Railway commuters step up Pune-Nashik track demand

NASHIK: Residents travelling by trains want early realisation of their demands of the Nashik-Pune tracks and maximum use of the fourth platform constructed with state government governments.
On Saturday, they presented a memorandum in favour of their demands to Central Railway general manager D K Sharma. "The demand for the Nashik-Pune railway tracks is pending for long and is a feasible one given the volume of business between the two cities. In addition, the construction of the track will provide a faster route for freight movement towards southern India too," said Siddheshwar Shinde, Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC).
was here for the annual inspection of the section from Igatpuri to Bhusawal in Bhusawal division. He inspected Devlali, Nashik Road and Manmad railway stations before reaching Bhusawal, the divisional headquarters of Central Railways.
"What we want is horticulture trains that will help the farmers transport goods from Nashik region the earliest. There is scope for such trains to carry grapes, onions, pomegranates, bananas and other produce. This will help the tillers get the right price," said Rajesh Fokane, president of the Bhusawal Division Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) said.
The railway commuters also want a better parking space for four-wheelers. "The current parking slot is congested and has the entry via Devi Chowk. Instead, the space allotted for two-wheelers can be utilised," Fokne said.

Jan 15 2017 (19:30)   Foundation stone for railway overbridge on Monday

rdb*^   124780 news posts
Entry# 2128856   News Entry# 291307         Tags   Past Edits
The long-standing demand for having a railway overbridge at Vajrahanuman Nagar in the city is finally going to see the light of the day as the foundation stone for the project will be laid on January 16.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Friday, MP and Union Minister of State for Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Ramesh Jigajinagi said that the project was being taken up on a cost-sharing basis between the State government and the Railway Ministry at a cost of Rs. 26 crore.
He said that tender has been
allotted and the project is expected to be completed within a year of its commencement.
He said that three more railway overbridges, one each at Ibrahimpur locality of the city, Aliabad and Savanahalli, were in the pipeline and they would be launched in the coming days.
“The railway overbridges are long-pending demands of the people here. In the absence of which, the people have been facing hardship as everyday they have to wait for long till a train passes at the level-crossings.
This has also been creating traffic congestion. The construction of the railway overbridge would give a lasting solution to this,” he said.
With regard to a proposed fertiliser production unit in the district, the Minister said that the project was not taking off as the government was not finding investors for the Rs. 5,000-crore project.
He said that since the project was based on public-private partnership, investors were needed for the project.
Asked about the status of giving UNESCO heritage tag to ancient monuments of Vijayapura, Mr. Jigajinagi said that nothing concrete has taken happened so far.
“ I have been in constant touch with the Minister concerned, but the file is still pending with the government,” he regretted.
Admitting that many physically challenged persons were coming to him seeking help, he said that he has directed the district administration to conduct resurvey of such persons in the district based on the new Bill.
He said that as per the new Bill passed by the Union government, the percentage criteria to declare disability has been reduced to 21 from 40.
“After the resurvey as per the new norms, efforts would be made to provide aids to beneficiaries,” he said.

Jan 16 2017 (07:10)   No rallying for rail projects

rdb*^   124780 news posts
Entry# 2128690   News Entry# 291332         Tags   Past Edits
Every year, come February and the Railway Budget, the Ministers, politicians and others predictably cry themselves hoarse over the “injustice meted out to the State yet again with no new projects or trains.” They crib about the lion’s share that neighbouring Kerala and Tamil Nadu get in the railway proposals.
It is interesting to see why the other States succeed where Karnataka loses out. Their politicians are seen to rise above party sentiments to lobby for their State. On December 20, when Vashistha Johri, General Manager of Southern Railways, Chennai, called a meeting of Members of Parliament from Kerala to discuss issues related to that State, 17 out of 39 MPs attended the meeting. He and two senior officials later held separate
discussions with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
If you look at Karnataka, such political rallying for railway projects has been lacking. Last week, South Western Railway’s General Manager A.K. Gupta called a pre-budget zonal meeting of MPs, including 40 from Karnataka. Only five BJP MPs attended the meeting.
Such political apathy is appalling at a time when Bengaluru, with its traffic woes, begs a suburban rail system and those in other districts need improved connectivity within the State, says Sanjeev Dyamannavar of Praja-Raag. Every year, Karnataka contributes over Rs. 500 crore as its share of cost of projects apart from free land. The Chief Minister, State government and MPs, he says, should pro-actively pressurise the railways to complete ongoing projects and seek new trains and projects.
Unusual demand
At a recent meeting in Shivamogga city to review implementation of railway works, K.P. Purshotham, member of the Zonal Railway Users’ Committee, and an ardent follower of B.S. Yeddyurappa ( in picture ), Shivamogga MP, placed a unusual demand. He asked for late arrival of the Bengaluru-Talaguppa express train (no. 16227) to Shivamogga city. Mr. Purshotham’s argument was that the train departs from Bengaluru at 11 p.m. and reaches Shivamogga city at 4.45 a.m. Passengers, who purchase tickets for sleeper class, did not benefit from the timing.
Arrival of the train to Shivamogga city by 6 a.m. will benefit passengers and ensure hassle-free sleep, he said, as others at the meeting burst into laughter.
Mr. Yeddyurappa, who chaired the meeting, was visibly upset with the demand and said that the railway authorities should focus on increasing the speed of trains and upgrade quality of services offered to passengers. The MP further told Mr. Purshotham that the railways focuses on quality of service and not “sleep well” programme.

Jan 12 2017 (11:20)   Proposed Nilambur-Nanjangud rail project raises expectations

Project to cut travel time between Kochi and Bangaluru to 7 hours
The Kochi-Bangaluru golden IT corridor will soon link the emerging towns in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu States, if the proposed Nilambur–Nanjangud rail line becomes a reality.
Addressing a review meet held here recently to assess the progress of the project E. Sreedharan, Principal Advisor, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), said that preliminary works such as alignment survey, traffic survey and satellite survey of the project had been completed.
land location survey for the purpose would commence soon, Mr. Sreedharan said.
The government has earmarked ₹8 crore to prepare a detailed project report.
The estimated cost of the project is ₹4,000 crore and it would take around five years to complete it . A new topographical alignment survey has brought down the distance between Nilambur and Nanjangud to 162. 2 km, as against 236 km in the earlier surveys, Mr. Sreedharan said adding that the Railway Board had approved it.
The project would be executed on cost-sharing basis between the Centre and States by constituting a special purpose vehicle.
Moreover, a special company would be constituted for the purpose.
Funds would not be a major constraint for the railway project as financial institutions would provide 50 per cent of the total cost as loans and the remaining amount could be met by the governments.
Even though railway projects would not need the permission of the Ministry of Environment and Forest, the DMRC would conduct an ecological impact study, prior to the construction works.
The project would not raise any ecological concerns as the railway line passes through underground tunnels in forest areas of Kerala and Karnataka States. ‘This is a promising and profitable project once it materialises,’ Mr. Sreedharan said adding he had great expectations on the project.
The government would hand over ₹2 crore of the ₹8 crore to the DMRC for preparing the detailed project report in two days, C. K. Saseendran, MLA, who presided over the meeting, said.
The line connecting Kerala and Karnataka is expected to bring down travel time between Kochi- Bangaluru to 7 hours and between Mysuru- Coimbatore to 5 hours.

Railway pressure groups feel let down by the ‘indifference’ of people’s representatives
South Western Railway (SWR) officials, who had for the first time decided to hear members of Parliament from the jurisdiction in the run-up to the budget, were surprised when only five of the 40 MPs from Karnataka attended the meeting in Hubballi on Tuesday.
The SWR had organised the meeting to listen to the views of the people’s representatives instead of preparing the demand list for the budget on its own. Those who made it to the meeting were P.C. Gaddigoudar
(Bagalkot), Suresh Angadi (Belagavi), Shivakumar Udasi (Haveri), B. Sriramulu (Ballari), and Pratap Simha (Mysuru).
Only 12 MPs who could not attend the meeting had sent out their demands, said chief public relations officer, SWR, E. Vijaya.
Joshi on official tour
Even the MP for Dharwad, Pralhad Joshi, did not attend the meeting. He reportedly had an official tour as the chairman of the Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas. He had requested for a change in the date, sources said. While none from Bengaluru attended the meeting, Bengaluru Central MP P.C. Mohan told The Hindu that he met divisional railway manager, Bengaluru division, Sanjiv Agarwal on Monday and submitted a detailed list of demands for Bengaluru region.
The SWR had invited 48 MPs, including those from Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu where its network exists. Karnataka has 40 MPs — 28 in the Lok Sabha and 12 in the Rajya Sabha.
Ms. Vijaya said while the Railways was capable of planning operational requirements, MPs would help it plan projects in the background of socio-economic development of the region. SWR general manager A.K. Gupta said the zone had earlier listened to the members of the Zonal Rail Users Consultative Committee on the issue.
MPs’ reluctance to attend the meeting has not gone down well with the pressure groups working towards enhancing railway facility in the State. Sanjeev V. Dyamannavar of Praja.org said all MPs could have acted as a group to bring pressure on the Railways for speedy implementation of various ongoing works and enhance connectivity. Karnataka government is into cost sharing of all new railway projects and the MPs had the right to ask the Railways to expedite the projects, he said.
Declining to comment on the absence of his peers, Mr. Simha told The Hindu it was his duty to attend the meeting as people had chosen him for the purpose. He said he presented a detailed list of demands for Mysuru–Kodagu region.

Jan 10 2017 (09:17)   Commercial run of MEMU train to Whitefield will start from January 17

BENGALURU: To make good for the delay in introduction of a suburban rail service, the Bangalore Railway Division recently announced a list of trains to partially cover a segment of the proposed suburban route. In this connection, two Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) services to Whitefield will be run at timings convenient to IT professionals from January 17.
According to railway sources, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will be coming to the city to flag off these services along with three services from here to Ramanagara on January 16. “The trains will be flagged off on January 16 evening and will run a short trip. The actual commercial run will begin the next morning (January 17),” they said.
of the services will run exclusively to Whitefield while the second service will stop at Whitefield enroute Kuppam. Three pairs of trains to Ramanagara, two of them evening trains, will also be launched on that day.
The MEMU to Whitefield will leave Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna railway station at 8.45 am and reach Whitefield at 9.40 am. In the return direction, it will leave Whitefield at 10.30 am and reach KSR at 11.10 am. The second train will leave KSR at 11.20 am and reach Kuppam at 1.45 pm. It will leave Kuppam at 2.45 pm and return to KSR at 5.20 pm. The trains will stop at Cantonment, Bengaluru East, Baiyappanahalli, KR Puram and Hoodi stations in both directions.
“With the Suburban Draft Policy making the state government solely responsible for putting in place a suburban network and calling for new infrastructure solely for suburban trains, Railways is now relived of playing the key role in putting in place the suburban service,” added a railway official.
The services between KSR and Ramanagara will have stops at Nayandahalli, Kengeri, Hejjala and Bidadi.
The timings of the proposed morning service is as follows: leave KSR at 5.20 am and reach Ramanagara at 6.15 am; In the return direction, leave Ramanagaram at 7 am and KSR at 8.40 am.

Jan 09 2017 (09:50)   `Pepsi Rajdhani', `Coke Shatabdi' coming soon to a station near you

You could soon find “Pepsi Rajdhani“ or Coke Shatabdi“ on the tracks as the railways has readied a plan for branding trains and stations to increase revenues without raising passenger fares or freight rates. The pr oposal is ready and is likely to get railway board's approval next week.
Under the new policy , a company can buy consolidated media rights for branding the entire train as it will be able to advertise both inside and outside the bogies.
“The railways has shunned the earlier approach of sell ing advertisement rights on a
piece-meal basis and is ready with plans to award rights for the entire train (both inside and outside) and stations on a long-term basis to big corporate players,“ said a senior officer. “The proposal will be approved next week,“ he said. The plan was accelerated after PM Narendra Modi, at a recent meeting, asked the railway brass to mop up revenue from alternative sources like tapping into the advertisement potential.
Modi, who often recalls his childhood days as a tea-seller on railway platforms, has been insisting on modernisation of the Railways with focus on worldclass stations and increasing revenue without putting additional burden on the passengers.
Faced with financial crunch, the state-run transporter is desperate to manage funds through advertisements because hike in passenger fares is being ruled out for the time being considering assembly elections in five states. The transporter has set an ambitious target of raising around Rs 2,000 crore `non-fare' revenue.
Late last year, the Railways sold rights for vinyl wrapping advertisements on exteriors of four trains with an aim to earn over Rs 8 crore in a year. An official said the new policy will offer out-of-home advertising policy and allow monetisation of railway assets by means of advertising.
The Railways will reach out to big names from the advertising world for spaces on trains, level crossings and areas along tracks, besides offering major platforms for installing over 2,000 ATMs.
