Rajasthan under North Western Railway (NWR) has re ceived 26% higher budgetary allocation in the Budget announced on Wednesday compared to last year. This has encouraged officials who are now optimistic to complete all ongoing and new projects for the modernization of the railways in the NWR division.
This is probably the highest growth in the budgetary allocation given for railways in state in the country.
The number of new trains to originate from Rajasthan has not yet been announced but officials hinted that the state will get trains under two circuits--tourism
and pilgrimage. "These trains will be of two class-passengers and super luxury ones to suit the needs of tra vellers of all category of passengers.
Rajasthan has immense potential in both circuits due to the presence of religious sites and tourist attractions. The route and name of these trains will be announced shortly," said Anil Singhal, general manager, NWR. Upbeat over the higher budge tary allocation, Tarun Jain, chief public relations officer (CPRO) told media in a press conference that the allocation would accelerate the work under new line, gauge conversion, doubling and manning of railway crossings.
Jain informed that one of the prime objectives of the Budget was safety. "Other than the budgetary allocation, NWR like other 15 divisions to get additional grant for strengthening safety mechanism," said Jain.
The funds allocated for NWR in 2015-16 was Rs 874 crore and shot up to Rs 1,405 crores in 2016-17. "The actual figures of budget 2017-18 will be shared once the print version of Budget reaches to us by February 3," said Jain. The NWR has also announced the performance of NWR of the current financial year from April 1 till December 2016.
The report said that accidents have reduced by 72.7% while the division has maintained 95% of arrivals and departures on time. The officials have claimed that NWR ranked in 4th in terms of on time performance.
The NWR has made a small growth in the revenue generation in passenger load by registering a growth of 4% till December. The revenue generation in goods category is behind 10% from the previous year.
"The total earning made by railways was Rs 5017.66 crores. It includes Rs 1435 crores while in goods it is Rs 3298 crores," said Jain, who is hoping that earnings from the goods will register growth by the end of March.

increase in budget is good but on overall basis it is still seems to be very less as compared to allocation to other zones.
Flat growth in passenger earnings is probably due to no new services getting added during the last year.
Without increase in trains/frequency we cannot expect rise in income.
However, dip in freight earnings is the real cause of concern.

"increase in budget is good but on overall basis it is still seems to be very less as compared to allocation to other zones."
Every zone is different, each has its own budget requirements, the comparison with other zones for budget allocations is absolutely nonsensical. Its like comparing Apples with grapes..
"Without increase in trains/frequency we cannot expect rise in income."
improving infrastructure where will you run more trains, in SKY? Its like you want more LC's to be created than demanding a Flyover over an existing busiest one.

Feb 01 2017 (13:04)   Virar-Borivli local: One dead, another grievously hurt after fall from Mumbai local train in Vasai | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: Overcrowding in the city's local trains claimed a family's sole bread winner while leaving another commuter injured. Both men fell off a crowded second-class compartment of a Virar-Borivli local, one after the other, near Vasai on Monday.
While Irfan Shaikh (29) died before admission to Ravi Hospital in Vasai, Vikas Prajapati (29) survived with serious head and jaw injuries and fractures to his hands.
Prajapati, who works as a salesperson in a Goregaon mall, boarded the 8.30am train at Virar. His wife Amruta, who often travels with him in the same coach,
had got into the ladies coach as the general compartment was packed at Virar itself.
itself and her husband had barely managed to find a foothold in it.
Shaikh boarded the compartment at Nalasopara and was hanging out precariously. As the train was nearing Vasai, there was commotion and commuters began screaming that two men had fallen on the tracks. "The chain was pulled and I heard about two men falling on the tracks. I called up my husband but he did not answer my call. I continued on my journey," said Amruta, who said the train left Vasai station after about 10 minutes.
When Amruta reached Borivli and did not see her husband, she again dialled his number. That is when a railway policeman answered his phone and told her that her husband had fallen off the train.
The Vasai Government Railway Police (GRP), with whom an accidental death case has been registered, said Shaikh sustained serious head injuries and died on admission to the hospital. He is survived by his parents and pregnant wife. Shaikh was the only earning member of his family. Shaikh's brother-in-law Faisal Mohiddin was informed about the accident at around 10am. He said Shaikh would take the Borivli train as he could alight at Mira Road, where he worked as a painter in a car showroom.
Amruta said it was getting increasingly impossible to board local trains during peak hour. "Trains originating at Virar come packed from Nalasopara. My husband was hanging out of the train right from Virar. Commuters getting off midway are not allowed to board Churchgate-bound trains. Even getting a foothold inside Borivli-and Andheri-bound trains has become a challenge," she lamented. She said the train was late by around 10 minutes, which added to crowds at all stations along the route. After their struggle to board the Borivli-bound train, the couple was to again fight for space in the 9.24am Churchgate slow train, to alight at Goregaon.

really sad to know. Politicians are least bothered. Virar-Bandra elevated corridor is still 10 years away. Out of the box thinking is the need of the hour to stop deaths on tracks.
I think to increase the services during peak hours, TT of long distance trains need to be changed such that they do not enter the suburban area between Virar-BCT between 7 am to 10.30 am in the morning so that all 4 tracks may be used for suburban trains.

"Every Action to cure patient brings another reaction, and then similar action is thought of ."
The reason behind 'overcrowding' is users, but how does users increase ?
Job seekers, employees, businessman, vendors and students, any one you can imagine as user' : The spate in users is due to Rush towards "Cities' for job ; every user brings at least his one family member, which expands into three four or more...
this is straining : all railways, : coach durability, maintenance, speed, comforts... : and once the vicious cycle sets in, : more users mean more coaches needed, more maintenance needed, more frequency needed... but when Space, is limited, Time is limited, Money is not available... the state of things is going to deteriorate...
If my house needs repairs, but I have to send my children to school also to marry off my sister, take care of my parents, : where priorities will Go ? House will get least priorities, which should be First ... since safety of house only will enable rest of the needs to be carried out safely...
But in India , 'decisions' are taken on the spur of the moment , in the heat of the moment, and when the calamity strikes...
any 'planned decisions' are either objected and delayed or politicized ...
take the Bandra Kurla Complex for bullet train' still hanging ...
Our states play ethnicity game, and districts play regional games...
Not allowing the executives to think and plan best... so at last GoK ...
God Only Knows... fate of such people and country

Mumbai: A fireman, who had sustained serious burn injuries while rescuing a bird near Mumbai Central Railway Station, died during the course of treatment, a fire official said on Sunday.
Rajendra Bhojne of Byculla fire station died at the National Burns Centre in Airoli at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, the official said.
Bhojne and two other fire personnel, Sanjay Kalbhere and Dinesh Sabankar, were trying to rescue a bird that was entangled in wires near Mahalaxmi Race Course on December 10. They were injured after they came in contact with a railway high
tension cable nearby. They were initially admitted to a private hospital, but given the severity of their injuries, they were shifted to the National Burns Centre, police said.
According to the doctors at the burns centre, the three had suffered varying degree of burns on their hands and faces, as well as their respiratory tracts.
