i think the best berth in sleeper coach is the upper berth. I always prefer it. Its pros/cons according to me are:-
pros :-
1. sleep whenever you want.
2. least disturbances except for the lights.
3. good berth length for above average height.
4. fans are located near your face.
5. no waitlisted passenger sits on your berth while you are sleeping which i have seen with lower and side lower berths and sometimes even with side upper berths.
6. easy to get while booking as

families don't prefer it.
cons :-
1. bad for rail fanning.
2. during summers its a bit hot as compared to seats near window.
3. bad for keeping an eye on your luggage which is normally put under the lower berth unless you sleep with your luggage.
4. bad for people who fear heights and those who find it difficult to climb on the upper berth.
your thoughts rail fans.

Within 4 mins post clicking this picture, UP Patna Jan Shatabdi furiously passed through the Main UP Line. The same was also seen at the next station by Arkya and Suraj. An overtake must have had happened after that.

Derailment is because of only one reason...too much trains crossing the area with very little time for track maintenance..& overspeeding of some prestigious trains which should be immediately brought back to 65 kmph max.

the derailment might be due to a different reason, but track maintainance of sbg loop is one of the worst in the nation...still sf run at cracking speed...for whatever reasons, but in last 5 years, sbg loop has seen more than 12 accidents/mishaps...

I heard that before. I just asked the reason behind you being sure of that.
Well, the accounts from the LP and passengers indicate a different thing:
**********************************************
Nalhati, May 14: Two passengers were injured when three compartments and the engine of the Calcutta-Haldibari Intercity Express got derailed about 7km from Nalhati station in Birbhum this afternoon.
Several pandrol clips were found beside the tracks along with two hammers with long handles. The clips are used to fasten tracks to railway sleepers. A railway official said a probe would look into chances of “sabotage”.
Birbhum has several pockets that were once Maoist strongholds, including Nalhati.

The two drivers of the train said that when the train was between Nalhati and Chatra, they saw six or seven men, who were standing on the tracks, running away.
“The train was running at about 90kmph. We saw six or seven men standing on the tracks. They ran away when they saw the train approaching. The men were not wearing the orange-coloured fluorescent jackets that gangmen and trackmen wear while working on the tracks. We did not have any information about any work on the tracks,” said Shiv Shankar Yadav, one of the drivers.
The other driver, Dhiman Chandra Das, said the engine and the three compartments jumped tracks after a severe jerk. The derailment took place around 12.50pm.
Mrinal Kanti Das, the superintendent of railway police (Howrah), said: “It is true that some pandrol clips and hammers were found beside the tracks at the spot. We will seize them after receiving a complaint from Eastern Railway.”
The divisional railway manager (Howrah) of Eastern Railway, Anirban Dutta, who reached the spot late this evening, said: “We don’t have information about any work on the tracks. A probe will be carried out to find out the cause of the derailment.”
A senior railway official said the probe would “also find out whether there was a sabotage”.
In 2010, the Jnaneswari Express had got derailed after suspected Maoists removed the pandrol clips.
Brijbhusan Tiwari, 40, who was in D2, one of the derailed compartments of the intercity express, said: “The train was moving at a considerable speed. Suddenly, there was a severe jerk and we were almost thrown off our seats. We realised the train had derailed.” Tiwari was travelling to New Jalpaiguri.
Another passenger, Subir Chakraborty, 50, who was in D-1 that too jumped the tracks, said: “As soon as the bogies got derailed, many passengers rushed towards the doors. We are lucky there was no stampede. Immediately after the derailment, I saw some youths running away through paddy fields.”
Two injured persons, Indranil Ganguly of Siliguri and Jamirul Haque of Calcutta, were taken by government railway police to Rampurhat sub-divisional hospital, from where they were discharged after first aid.
A railway official said a special train left for Malda with the passengers of the derailed train. “From Malda, there are many connecting trains and the passengers will not face any difficulty in reaching their destinations,” the official said.
Several trains were cancelled, diverted and rescheduled because of the derailment.
A railway official said the Mada Town-Burdwan Passenger and the Barharwa-Burdwan Passenger were cancelled.
The diverted trains include the Sealdah-New Cooch Behar Express, Sealdah-Alipurduar Express, Trivandrum-Guwahati Express, Calcutta-Balurghat Express, Howrah-Guwahati Express, Sealdah-Varanasi Express, Vananchal Express and the Howrah-Gaya Express.

OMG....Maoists in Birbhum too....very sad to see these unsocial Indians who dont want any developments in their country...
BTW,the description in newspapers seem to be exhaustive & quite illaborate to understand that it might be a case of sabotage...but I would like to say that in ER, I've seen some Gangmen(must not be actual Railway Employees but hired by local contractors) to work with hammers & replacing Old sleepers who actually dont wear that fluorescence color jacket...But yes they're always surrounded by PWI Trolley inspectors & other Rly officials so whatever work they do its done under deep surveillance....but this is case seem to be sabotage

Certainly you are not a railfan and I have doubt over your railway knowledge. But that's not the matter. The matter is you're targeting (with baseless arguments) Kolkata- based trains which hurts our feelings. When someone says, that NJP Shatabdi has become hit, you'll appear from nowhere and say- let's talk about it after summer! And in this blog you're saying SRC- AII exp is the greatest WE. the fact is: I have experience of this train (that too in the last year). I was in sleeper and I got the berth in an extra coach. And now number of AC coaches is increased from 3 to 4.
So, if you want to argue, at least gather some proof before you do that. Otherwise PLEASE DO NOT spread hatred on what others love.

Thanks. In the past I was in your seat and was taught lesson.
Whatever, call a WE as WE, no matter. Like a SER train: Lalmati Exp.
A strange thing I have seen that many ER trains appears to be WE, apparently. But people reported that the trains get more passengers at the last moment and 70- 80% is filled. NJP Shatabdi and DHN DD are some examples.
