Bhavin Gandhi and many other techies like him who jump on railway tracks when the train stops between KR Puram and Whitefield stations daily, might not have to do this stunt any more. The railways is working out a plan to build a proper station between KR Puram and Whitefield...

stops and extend the Nelamangala--Yeshwantpur DEMU train to Whitefield via Hebbal.
For over a year now, social media group Citizens 4 Better Bangalore and industry bodies have been asking for a railway station behind Prestige Shanti niketan and a suburban train from the city to Whitefield.
Like thousands others, Bhavin who works in Whitefield takes the train that goes towards Byappanahalli and further to Bengaluru City station. The new station (to be called Hoodi halt) will finally ease their journey . It will save at least an hour of commute for these daily travellers.
On Monday , MP PC Mohan wrote to the divisional railway manager to extend the Nelamangala Yeshwantpur train to Whitefield. In May , Mohan allocated Rs 1.7 crore from the MPLADS fund to the railways.“The designs are ready and tenders for construction will be floated by late July,“ Mohan told TOI. The South Western Railway (SWR) had admitted that it has no funds to construct the station.
“This should have happened a decade ago when Whitefield was readying for massive business development. Whitefield has a workforce of 2 lakh com muting from different parts of the city every day,“ said Bhavin.
Not just Citizens 4 Better Bangalore, even representatives of Whitefield Rising, Whitefield Area Commerce and Industries Association (WACIA) and MP P C Mohan met the divisional railway manager of South Western Railway, Bengaluru division, several times in the past year.
Got rly's assurance
It was a compelling demand from the lakhs of people who work here. Citizens 4 Better Bangalore and Whitefield Rising wanted industry support. Four days ago, we met the MP and railway officials to discuss the matter. The railways assured us that the train can be extended to Whitefield and that it'll work out the modalities RN Hegde | PRESIDENT, WHITEFIELD AREA COMMERCE AND INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION

The pitch for the Whitefield Nelamangala train has got louder with P C Mohan, the Bengaluru Central MP, joining the chorus for it. Following more than two thousand petitions from the techies, Mohan said that it is high time the train was introduced to help the daily commuters who were...

dependent on the trains.
Speaking to Mirror, Mohan said, “I have received a petition with 2,313 signatures from Whitefield residents and daily commuters to extend the train on an immediate basis. Commuters travelling to Whitefield go through the hardship of travelling more than four hours to and fro on a daily basis from various parts of city. Introducing these train services will make their travel time shorter and will reduce pollution with vehicles reduced on Bangalore roads. Also, it will earn good revenue to railways as more than 2 lakh commuters are travelling in this route.“
He said the state government has placed a proposal before the Railway Board for introducing suburban rail service in Bengaluru.
“In the meantime, some immediate relief can be provided by the South Western Railways by running skeletal services to some of the most congested parts of Bengaluru City. Yeshwantpur to Whitefield is the corridor that urgently requires help with additional modes of daily travel,“ he said.
Meanwhile, the techies have suggested to the railways that the proposed training time can be: A train leaving Nelamangala at 6.30 am and reaching Yeshwanthpur railway station at 7.20 am.
The train leaving at Nelamangala at 7.40 am and reaching Whitefield by 8.35 am. Similarly, the techies want trains from Nelamangala side at 11.20 am, 4 pm and from Whitefield side at 9 am, 1.40 pm and 6.30 pm.

The wheels of the high speed Indian trains like Shatabdi and Duronto expresses which are currently being imported from Europe are all set to sport the “Made in India“ tag. The Yelahanka based Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) is testing the indigenously manufactured wheels that can clock speeds up to 160...
kmhr. Currently, RWF is manufacturing wheels that are run at speeds of only up to 120 kmhr.
The new wheel, called the LHB wheel, will be fit on the air-conditioned stainless steel coaches that are manufactured using the design by Linke Hofmann Busch (hence called LHB wheels).
Currently, the LHB wheels being used by the Indian Railways are imported. In April this year, when Indian Railways faced a shortage of LHB wheels, it asked RWF and the Railway Research, Design and Standard Organisation (RRDSO) to speed up the process of developing LHB wheels in India itself.
An RWF technical staff member said, “The newly developed LHB Wheels have a larger diameter. When the diameter is more the area covered and speed automatically increases. The outer ring of the wheel is also made thicker so as to be able to bare the load even when it reaches its maximum speed. These wheels cannot be used for non-LHB coaches.“
RWF had submitted its designs for the LHB wheels earlier this year. The designs were tested by RRDSO on a software called the Finite Element Analysis Software. The measurement of the wheels are fed into the software and the capacity of thermal load, impact load, speed load are calculated and checked. The company is then given a go-ahead to manufacture the first set of wheels. The first set of wheels are put on physical checks for three years.
Another technical staff member of RWF said, “The wheels have to be checked on various railway tracks across India. Sometimes the tracks are loose in some places; tracks may be wider is some areas, there some specific turns where if the wheels are not aligned properly it could lead to major accidents. Then the sand density is checked in various areas. The sand density check is the second most important aspect to be considered in terms of rail wheels. This whole process takes three years. Once testing period is over and the wheels are used on regular basis they need to be changed after completion of one lakh kilometres.“
During the testing period the wheels are attached to empty trains. The development of the LHB wheels was taken up after the LHB coaches began to be manufactured in India.
