Sub: Superimposed photo
Admin, sir: Request please do not delete this post.
I refer to my post #838060 and the thread.
A serious matter, which requires your attention and necessary action, sir.
I refer
...
to post #567807 where a member (#377103) posted a photo of Jalpaiguri station with Mt.Kanchanjangha as backdrop. The following text was placed therein -
"MAGICAL! HEAVEN!
JALPAIGURI STATION AND MOUNT KANCHANJUGHA.....
this photo is taken by Subharun Ghosh of Jalpaiguri. Posted with his permission!
Comments!"
Please observe from the said blog thread the appreciations received subsequently. That was the objective – anyone understands.
The photo is a fake one, a superimposed one. Residents of Jalpaiguri and persons who know Jalpaiguri well (I claim to be one of them), will confirm that Kanchanjangha is not at all visible from that place. In fact, from vantage points too, the view is not that! Members, who are interested, may just consult ‘wikimapia’ – the orientation/direction of the (bit curved) platform – the direction of Mt.Kanchanjangha from that place with little application of geometry/trigonometry – you can never see.
The concerned member called me (from his mobile +918902377103, as supplied in this forum – surprisingly the last 6 digits of the mob number match his membership number – good effort indeed!). He admitted that it’s a fake photo. He also promised that he would make one ‘apology’ post in this esteemed forum. 24 hours over, no apology. This tends to show his intention. There is nothing personal here - I did not know him, I do not know him. I’m only interested in maintaining the sanctity of this forum.
Additional info: This member has also been making false/fake/dubious posts in other forums – IRFCA is one example. This member has a background of becoming silent when challenged, then disappearing from the forum, and reappearing after some period with another ID. I won’t be surprised if he adopted the same practice here too [member # 243533].
Thanks
Pabitra Mukherjee

An updated list of IRI admins/ex-admins and members/ex-members I have been privileged to meet during my association with IRI, refreshed as on 20th August, 2013. Golden opportunities to interact with a galaxy of stars from IRI and enlarge my circle of friends have been a matter of immense pleasure for me. To use a by now well worn cliche and even at the risk of repetition ad nauseam, I must express my gratitude to IRI in general and the moderator in particular, for making this possible. I consider myself singularly blessed to have been fortunate to have met more than 30% of the admins of IRI.

Admin, sir: I've joined this site very recently and presently am going thru various posts using search facility. I've some observation. What about the ID of the bloggers? I have come across some typical situations where identities have been challenged and to me it appears that the challenges were genuine. I refer to #601549 and particularly from #601549-22 dtd 04/12/2012 till #601549-42 dtd 10/12/2012. Surprisingly, a member who had claimed to be a railfan since 2009, joined on 04/12/2012 and no activity is observed after 05/03/2013 - a tenure of only 3 months for a serious fan, and that too on this great site! Was it because ID was challenged? It appears that 3 persons got involved (and Admin had to intervene) in some challenges/counter challenges, and two of the members had very short stay at this site. I feel I also observe some 'typical' activities here - however, I...

shall be able to mention them only after some more observations when I can conclude something with proof. If my ID is challenged, I'm ready to go public here - no problem - with EPIC/PAN card/Aadhar card/Passport whatsoever, my landline telephone number and even appearing on 'skype'. I believe that we have social resposibility and no one without authenticated ID should be allowed. Regards.

as a new member, obviously i started searching my topics of interest. while going thru one such topic of my interest, i started observing certain unusual activities. it was not a case of 'singling out' any particular blog/blogger.

Since yesterday, I have started looking at some member's posts particularly connected with the said post #601549. If it is now called 'singling out' - yes, it is that. There are reasons. One particular member (at least so far I've detected) has 'unusual' activities in such forums (like flickr, FB, IRFCA, even linkedin!) including this one. The person has been challenged on occasions, and then has either become silent or has reappeared after some days with a different ID. I request Admin, sir, not to delete this post - let us start doing some job which is relevant to this esteemed forum so that unusual activities (like pasting fake/superimposed photographs, pasting copied material from other forums, writing trip reports just staying at home, commenting only with words like 'awesome', 'great', 'nice' etc, thus increasing number of posts to receive congrats) get stopped. Thanks. Pabitra Mukherjee.

One of the reasons I could 'single out' is: I came across a photo of a place very well known to me and the view there - I observed that it is a fake photo, a superimposed one. I started my job! Results have started coming - really encouraging!

One member of this forum has admitted, in a private (verbal) communication to me an hour back, that a photo which he had pasted here, is, in fact, a superimposed one. He has also conveyed that he is going to post an 'apology' message in this forum at the earliest. We await his apology.

There is a station named Narayan Pakuria Murail (NPMR) on the HWH-KGP section (between Bhogpur and Panskura (see wikimapia). This started as a halt station say 30 years back [residents around the place/regular travellers can throw more light]. We were told that the station was first named as Narayanpur, then as Narayan-Pakuria, then as the one now named - because the residents of each of the adjacent villages started protesting so that each village name should be accommodated - finally it was done!
