Union Minister Suresh Prabhu proposed an end to railway subsidies to defence personnel, senior citizens and students. He said that these subsidies cost around Rs 30,000 crore and should be borne by the ministries concerned. The minister has also proposed doing away with separate railway budget. For this, he has written a letter to the finance minister.
However, the end of subsidies will not cause any  increase in passenger fare or freight charges, said the ministry. “Such an increase is not  possible. It will be counterproductive for Railways. The freight charges have reached a saturation point and high passenger fare will discourage higher passenger traffic,” said a railway official.

to the ministry, the railways will earn from other sources. It says that development of stations in a commercial manner and advertisements on stations and trains can be two major sources of earnings. The Railways has chalked out an ambitious plan of generating resources through TV screens at stations. Advertisements on these screens bring huge revenue, they claim.
The move of doing away with the subsidies is considered to be the part of implementation of Bibek Debroy Committee report. It has recommended wide-ranging reforms in the Railways and suggested its commercialisation. 
It has asked the railways to get rid of social obligations and function like a commercial organisation. The committee has suggested that the Railways should not run hospitals and schools. It should also not do anything which can not make an earning.

Completely agree, MPs ko to bilkul bhi subsidy nahin milni chahiye!! On top of it, Govt. employees earn good enough to pay for their seats. All Govt. employees above class 4 must not be given any type of subsidy.

अगर एक्सटेंशन होता है तो सर्दी में इस ट्रेन की हालत बहुत ज्यादा ख़राब हो जाएगी| MFP में ही ट्रेन को कम टाइम मिलता था रिलैक्स करने का अब तो प्रेशर और बढ़ जायेगा|

Maintaining 130kmph during entire journey seems improbable esp. on the tight curves in BRC-RTM section. The news may mean to say that the booked speed through out the journey shall be 130kmph.
If all the line clear signal is given through out the route with just minimal single stop for crew change, the train is most likely to complete NDLS-BCT journey in 13 hours. Even LHB Rajdhani rake can do it in about 14 hours under same conditions.

For me purpose of all trains are different so rating them on same scale would not be fair like shatabdi is small distance executive train while DEMU/MEMU is local train with Fast passenger qualities and serves local people. So putting them in same rate category is not fair although I like Normal M/E Trains.

सच्चाई यह है कि गतिमान एक्सप्रेस को 100 मिनट दिल्ली के हजरत निजामुद्दीन स्टेशन से आगरा पहुंचने में लगते हैं और शताब्दी को 117 मिनट नई दिल्ली रेलवे स्टेशन से आगरा पहुंचने में लगते हैं.

सबसे पहले किराये में 25 फासदी बढ़ोत्तरी के सरकार के आंकड़े को ही जांचें तो यह सही नहीं है. शताब्दी में जहां चेयर कार का किराया 515 रुपये है, वहीं गतिमान में इसका किराया 750 रुपये है. वहीं एक्जीक्यूटिव श्रेणी का शताब्दी का किराया 1,010 रुपये है और गतिमान में इस श्रेणी का किराया 1,500 रुपये है. इन तथ्यों के आधार पर देखें तो गतिमान एक्सप्रेस के चेयर कार के लिए भारतीय रेलवे शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस से 25 फीसदी नहीं बल्कि 40 फीसदी से भी अधिक किराया वसूल रही है तो एक्जीक्यूटिव श्रेणी के लिए यह आंकड़ा तकरीबन 50 फीसदी है. और ऐसा भी तब है जब गतिमान एक्सप्रेस शताब्दी के मुकाबले तकरीबन साढ़े सात किलोमीटर कम दूरी तय करती है. इसके अलावा गतिमान में किराये से जुड़ा एक महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य यह भी है कि इसमें किसी तरह के रियायती टिकट दिये जाने की कोई व्यवस्था नहीं है.
अब अपने मूल सवाल पर आते हैं कि रेलवे ने इस ट्रेन को नई दिल्ली की बजाय निजामुद्दीन से क्यों चलाया?
नई दिल्ली से भोपाल के बीच चलने वाली शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस अभी दिल्ली से आगरा पहुंचने के लिए 117 मिनट का वक्त लेती है. वहीं गतिमान दिल्ली से आगरा 100 मिनट में पहुंचती है. इन 17 मिनटों की बचत के आधार पर ही गतिमान एक्सप्रेस को हाईस्पीड ट्रेन और मोदी सरकार के रेल मंत्रालय की एक बहुत बड़ी उपलब्धि बताया जा रहा है. जबकि सच्चाई इतनी सीधी है नहीं. दरअसल सच्चाई यह है कि गतिमान एक्सप्रेस को 100 मिनट दिल्ली के हजरत निजामुद्दीन स्टेशन से आगरा पहुंचने में लगते हैं और शताब्दी को 117 मिनट नई दिल्ली रेलवे स्टेशन से आगरा पहुंचने में लगते हैं.

The matter of fact is we always cry even though some better things are happening and we are not be able to take part in that. Reducing time from 117 to 100 mins is a huge achievement as of date. Understand one simple thing achieving 99 marks is difficult in an exam but achieving 100 needs much much more effort. I am not saying IR is at 100 level but they are trying to make things better. If we always keep finding flaws and crying on things I think we better look within us for answers. Cheers for better future!!

Gatiman ll also take almost 117(may be 110 or 112) min if it run from NDLS. then why fare is so high? More over people have to go to Nizamuddin in autu/bus etc. there is an extra cost & time. that's why GATIMAN is becoming flop show. Travelers understood the matter.
It should run from NDLS with same fare as Shatabdi, then it ll b HIT.

Just trying to tell you if Bhopal Shatabdi going from NZM to AGC without stopped at mathura then I guess 100 minute target could be achieved before 8-10 year ago so it is my personal feeling that I am not satisfied about this more hyped India fastest train.
