Just FYI, the picture was taken a few days before it was extended to Cuddalore, so that's why the board says Mayiladuturai!

This train's had a bunch of upgrades. It started out as the 31/32 Trichy Erode Passenger back in the '50s or even before that. Then, in the '70s, it got pushed to Jolarpettai and became the 31/32 Trichy Jolarpettai Passenger. I think around '81, they made it reach Bangalore, with a turnaround at Jolarpettai, and it got upgraded to Express in the Erode Jolarpettai part but still chillin' as Passenger from Jolarpettai to Bangalore. In '91, they switched it up to 6531/2, moved to the Bangalore division, and skipped Jolarpettai using the link, counting it as Passenger from Tirupattur to Bangalore, and Express for the rest. By '92, it was all Express. '93 saw it get linked with Madurai Bangalore express 6531A/6532A after the Karur Madurai Broad Gauge opened. Then in '96, they wrapped up the Salem Baiyappanahalli conversion, and the Trichy part got rerouted through Hosur and went to Mysore. In '97, it shifted to the Mysore division and got extended to Thanjavur, renumbered to 6231/2. In '05, Thanjavur to Kumbakonam got the conversion done, and the train stretched to Kumbakonam, rollin' as the Mysore Kumbakonam express. Around '06, it hit Mayiladuthurai since the Kumbakonam Mayiladuthurai section was good to go. Now in 2024, it's extended to Cuddalore Port. This train's had its routes switched up from TPJ ED to TPJ JTJ, TPJ JTJ to TPJ SBC, TPJ SBC to TPJ MYS, TPJ MYS to TJ MYS, TJ MYS to KMU MYS, KMU MYS to MV MYS, and now MV MYS to CUPJ MYS. So yeah, 7 expansions in total.

Ye train bahut saari extensions se guzri hai. Ye train pehli baar 1950s ya usse pehle 31/32 Trichy Erode Passenger ke roop mein shuru hui. Baad mein ise 1970s mein Jolarpettai tak 31/32 Trichy Jolarpettai Passenger ke roop mein extend kiya gaya. Mujhe lagta hai 1981 mein ise Bangalore tak extend kiya gaya, Jolarpettai par reverse hoke, Erode Jolarpettai section mein Express mein upgrade hua, lekin Jolarpettai Bangalore mein Passenger category bana raha. 1991 mein ye train 6531/2 number se jaana gaya aur Bangalore division ko transfer hua aur Jolarpettai ko link ke zariye bypass kiya, aur is train ko Tirupattur se Bangalore tak Passenger samjha gaya aur baaki hissa Express tha. 1992 mein ye ek Express category train ban gaya, end se end tak. 1993 mein, Karur Madurai Broad Gauge complete hone ke baad, ye train Madurai Bangalore express 6531A/6532A se link kiya gaya, Karur par amalgamation/bifurcation ke saath. 1996 mein, Salem Baiyappanahalli Gauge conversion complete hua. Trichy ka hissa Hosur se divert hua aur Mysore tak extend kiya. 1997 mein, ye train Mysore division mein shift hua aur doosra end Thanjavur tak extend hua. Iska number 6231/2 kar diya gaya. 2005 mein, Thanjavur se Kumbakonam ka gauge conversion complete hua, ye train Kumbakonam tak extend hua aur Mysore Kumbakonam express ke roop mein chali. Lagbhag 2006 mein, ise Mayiladuthurai tak extend kiya gaya, jab Kumbakonam Mayiladuthurai section complete hua. 2024 mein, ise Cuddalore Port tak extend kiya gaya. Ye train TPJ ED se TPJ JTJ, TPJ JTJ se TPJ SBC, TPJ SBC se TPJ MYS, TPJ MYS se TJ MYS, TJ MYS se KMU MYS, KMU MYS se MV MYS, aur finally ab MV MYS se CUPJ MYS tak gayi. Total - 7 extensions.
